I dunno how many people this has happened to... I forget the name of the mission, it was a simple, easy level 2 combat mission for that Caldari R&D corp that starts with Kaal (they have internal security agents :). I have a somewhat new policy of looting every single can that I ever come into contact with. Keep in mind, I'm not rich - before this mission I only had about 48 million isk, and my assets are a caracal, an itty mk3, a kestrel and hundreds of assorted basic items.
I looted a can from a Guristas Despoiler (I think), and picked up some random named BCU. I was like, "Oh, cool, I use missles anyway". I right clicked, view market details, and I closed the window and then something in my mind alerted me to an excess number of digits in one of the buy orders. The buy order was 70 mil, which was over 20 mil more than I had.
After soiling myself, I inquired in price_check as to the price, and someone offered 75 million for it. I didn't want to let it get to my head and get ripped off, so I started arguing, though the desire to see that money in my wallet got to me once I got him up to 80 million. I saw one on escrow for 89.5 million, and I'm kinda sure that I let it go fairly cheap, but still, that's besides the point.
The point is that a week ago, I had about 12 million isk. I've been flying these level 2 combat missions for a few hours a night since then, and I've made about 120 million isk doing it. I've found the BCU which sold for 80 mil, I found a 24.2% cargo expander in the habitat in Silence the informant that sold for 12.5 mil, storyline agent +2 perception implant mission which sold for 10 million, and assorted named items that made up the rest of the 20 million, along with rewards.
I don't know why I made this post, I'm not trying to brag, I'm just kinda curious if anyone else has had this kinda luck. Maybe this is nothing at all, I know tons of people have more money than me, but this is so far beyond any amount of cash I've ever had at one time. I'm not planning on getting any more 80 million BCUs anytime soon, but these missions obviously are very profitable, and I was just curious how many other people this happens to.

There are a number of missions (L2 or L3 for me so far), which have frigates that tend to drop battleship loot. And some of the habitats, etc. also randomly spew up some interesting stuff.
So no, you're not the only one that gets these weird drops, just that your 80m ISK one seems a bit nicer than mine. :)

I recently started LvL 3 Missions, and since then I haven't found many drops. I used to get plenty in LvL 2 though. Am i just on a streak of nasty bad luck, or is this the way it is with LvL 3's?

The only expensive mod I _ever_ found was a 25.08% hull expander LONG time ago, from a serpentis mining operation in low sec, from a trucker ship.
It was nice at the time, 20-22 mil or so, but i need a lot more money at the moment
In missions i dont even bother with the loot, dunno why, i just dont. Maybe if there was a better way to scan those cargo conts 150km away without actually flying up to them. ---------------

I've scanned loot cans with standard cargo scanners before. It wasn't a great solution though - limited range, and big ships take ages to lock cargo cans.

I hire relatively new guys in my corp to come along with a fast frigate picking up cans for me. It's good money for them relative to the other things you can do with a frigate, and gives me the peace of mind of knowing that I'm not leaving an expensive mod behind.
Of course, since I started doing that the loot values have been low, and I usually lose money on the deal. But at least it's staying in the corp, and the new guys learn a bit about missions:).

I got a local hull conversion expanded cargo mod off a mission, I had it in my hanger for a month or so waiting for my next need to goto empire.. finally traded it and some mins(5m-ish worth) to a corpmate for a domi(he has other BS's, and the domi works for my mining needs)
trying the cosmos missions in Caldari space I got a DG boost amp one day, but it was late I was falling asleep and I screwed up the 0s on escrow
total money, cash and items off missions, i've made enough for 3 assault frigs, several cruisers, a domi, and 2 hac's |

I have found, that for some reason, lvl 2 missions drop more good loot than ANY other missions, lvl 3 OR 4. I cant tell you how many lvl 4 missions I have ran. And I think a hull expander is the only thing I have ever found that was worth some real cash.
Not sure why its to imbalanced, but thats the way it goes.

I think you are talking about the gone beserk level 2 mission, which spawns the 95k dread gurista despoiler (which it should NOT spawn imo), which drops mods worth 100k plus, which is complete bs. I thought they fixed it, i petitioned once i hit level 3s realizing that this mission was way out of balance with the level 3 version, because the level 3 ending rat was a 75k bounty cruiser, and the level 2 mission was a 95k frig bounty and the fact it gave insane loot. I was chaining level 2s because that was all i could do at the time, i ended up with 500 mil in loot after a week because of that one mission. I went on vacation after i petitioned and just assumed they fixed it but apparently not.

I do this as well, however to catch out the over zelous, I jettison a large turret or some other attractive, but identifyable item during battles, and if it does not show up when we do the mission splits, then I never run another mission op with that paticular player.

3 days after I started the game and was struggling for making isks quickly, I looted an hull expander on a rat which I had sold something like 4M isks... eight times what I had in bank at that time... Was quite happy ^^ (yes I know these may seem ridiculous numbers (even for the newbie I still am earning now 3-4M/hour in an osprey by mining Kernite) but when you begin, these 4M are very helpful.

I took wrong gate and ended up in genesis, turning back to gate I noticed 3 blood followers (smallest npc bounty's you can get), well as I am 4 days old, I thought "what the heck, just kill them"
Loot contained one Alpha Hull Mod Cargo Expansion. In my home system (region) the average price was 3.5 mill, I had no hurry getting it sold, so i put up a sell order for 5 mill. Was sold a few hours later

lvl4's (not done many) named heavy nos, 3 limos siege, a few named (not best) xl boosters, a few lrg named rails, again, nothing special. mostly pre missile nerf mind.

Here here on the lvl2 Gone Beserk.
I had just done a storyline to finish the previous evening, and combined with connections2 I upgraded to a lvl2 +7 command agent. The first mission was Gone Beserk.
Nothing difficult as I am in a Caracal, and I know to hit the Kestrels first. After three waves, moved in for the cans. The closest was off of the "boss" Kestrel.
5 items including the Moun Bolt BCS and a Tech2 Low grade Crystal implant (+2 mem, 2% shield boost, set bonus if you get them all).
I am extremely happy with the new agent .

man, the best stuff I get is only the named tech1 stuff. I've NEVER gotten a faction module or tech 2 implant. Are the loot tables affected by system security level? Taco, you have to kill commander mobs.
Look at the rat charts, and search for the commander rats.
These special rats fly tech II ships, have better abilities, and drop faction loot.
Example, yesterday I did a L3 faction mission in .4 to slay Jemai someone or other. I popped the rat and there was a shiney domination faction rocket launcher!
So where can you find these rats? Two ways.
One is certain mission have them coded into the mission, like that L3 mission I just mentioned. So just cycle through missions fast until you get to them.
The easier way is to belt hunt. What you are doing in low sec is farming all the belts until a faction rat commander spawns to lead the rats to victory. Just be ready to pop him and take his true sansha this or that or dread gurista this or that.
Centering your game on commander rats is risky. You have to live in low sec, and the rewards are really crummy.
Example: L4 missions--3 mil per mission times 10 missions.
Example: belt rats for commander spawns--250000 a spawn for nine spawns then 50-100 mil for the last one when the commander drops faction loot.
The key is to really stick it out and play the odds. You will spend hours killing crap rats for the hope of a commander rat and THEN the rat drops 1000 dread gurista iron ammo. Don't quit! The next rat might drop a dread gurista shield boost amp for 100 mil ISK and you made back all your money while your poor corp mate is slaving over L4 missions thinking life is good because he got a crummy malkuth seige launcher! |

I'm a newer player. When I did the tutorial and subsequent 8 agent missions, I received an implant at the end of the last agent mission worth 19 million. Obviously, this was a major boost for me as far as being able to purchase a frigate and then a cruiser.
Strangely, after I made a new character for combat only, I did the same thing, and the implant I received was only worth 64,000, and that was above market value.

After calling in the entirety of The Five, Stain Alliance, Red Alliance, The Washington Redskins and the cast of "Friends" we spent two weeks clearing the area of all spawns.
Once the dust had settled we checked out the fifteen thousand cans that had dropped and found the following...
300 Local Hull Cargo Expanders 25 Domiantion Webbifiers 2 Amarr Control Towers 7 Leviathan BPCs TomB's corpse The Yulai solar system A rather annoyed ferret called Simon
We sold Simon the Ferret on escrow (slave trading ferrets is fun) and split the cash. With my share I bought a new galaxy called "Adam". Been playing there ever since.

Yes I have found 8 DG spawns spread over 2 systems (both right next toeach other) 6 of em mind you droped nothing cool but 1 droped a DG BCU and 1 dropped a DG warp scram.
Forgive me i don't give out the locations. both 0.4 systems and I found a shadow serpatis kentic passive a long time ago in a 0.4.

For me the lev 2s give a greater variety of loot and rewarsd when compared to a lev 3 The rule seems to be - the higher ther bounty ... the less reward from the loot. Bonus items also seem to be more Isk based after you have trained negotiation... as my Alt is always getting components / items etc from the same agent - and he has no negotiation skill trained. yet my main always gets isk :(
Any way just an observation

My best luck at getting good drops for Level 2 security missions is a mission called "Silence the Informant."
This mission usually generates 500k isk from kills and loot melting anyway(w0000T!!), but occasionally drops very nice things. I have received an "Arbalest" Standard launcher (wtf??SWEET) and an "Arbalest" Assault Launcher (tight :P).
But your 75-80 million isk drops have me quite jealous atm :))

I have had the following from that mission, a worm BPC, LG crystal Alpha, beta and Omega and a DG shield boost amp and I also got an LG halo Beta form an Amarr version og Gone beserk.
Since I moved to upto l3's and 4's not had another anywhere near as good.

Originally by: Voodeaux I am only 1 day into the game and I guess I got real lucky I found a pod floating in space with some things and did a quick check on how much they cost and came up with 10 mil + This was on teh 5th starter mission
I also had a lucky find on my first day.
I found a Partial Hull Cargo Expander in a can from a rat I had killed.
Someone in the corp offered to buy it for 1 million ISK......i later sold it on the market for 10 million :)

I've just moved on to the level 2 missions with my first (very low quality, -18) security agent and find I am making way more in bounties and loot than I ever did in missions. Found a few named items but I kept them, I think their better invested on my poor stabber than on the market for now. Any Minmatar missions I should be watching out for for major ISK? Trashed lots of Despoilers and normally only find ammo or t1 guns...

Edited by: Zrakor on 01/11/2005 12:48:28 Note: There is just 1 kill mission for the R&D agents, and it only uses normal belt pirates. So you must have gotten rather lucky there. Congrats.

Any agent of the appropriate level and faction can give out this mission, and the dread (commander) spawn is a rare occurence, although configured to be slightly higher in low secure space.

I've run loads of level 3 missions in a 0.5 system, but I have never seen a commander spawn. Is this the only mission that spawns them, or do all missions have a chance to spawn commanders?

l3's blockade has a chance of a commander spawn i think - also in my expereince the commander spawn is ALWAYS present on l2 Gone beserk but half the time he only drops faction ammo.
