omg, great stuff Remedial. And the other directors at goonfleet of course. Never expected you in such an enterprise though
Getting that many noobs and providing them with ships and modules must've been quite the logistical nightmare. I wish I could have had such well prepared start in EVE.

Becasue as you can see, you are talking about the greatness of the SA Goons. You evne mentioned the website and said you guys are above avg int. You have the right to post positive stuff, I have the right to post negative stuff. I saw some of your goons even came directly from UO...perhaps I know some of them. If I know a guild in one MMO and I see them move to another MMO, untill proven otherwise their reputation is still the same.

There's a difference between acting like an idiot, and not taking things seriously because it's just a game. Some goons blur that line, sure. If you're going to critisize our community you should point out our love of interpersonal drama, the killer of a score of gooncorps before GoonFleet. No drama yet this time, due mostly to how experienced the leadership is at preventing it I think. Remedial and I have seen it all.
The idea behind this program was to remove the grind from joining EVE. We've spend only about a third as much on frigates (and we lose a LOT of frigates) as we have on skillbooks. The recruiting thread we posted on SA included valuable training advice. The net effect is that the game is made much much simpler and rather than figuring everything out then trying to PVP they jump in, PVP, and along the way slowly learn how to play. EVE has a terrifically steep learning curve but we totally removed that if these guys were willing to read our info and pay attention during combat.
And as a result it was wildly successful. On our private forum our previous record for concurrent users was 28, set in July during our last recruitment drive. It is now 60. That, more than anything, gives the idea of how successful this drive was compared to past efforts.

I shuold let you goons know that I AM glad to see you moving over to EVE. I admit that you are a fun group to fight and you guys do some fun stuff. But I honestly do think very low of you becuase of your unifying theme, which is that horrible mind rotting website.

If there's anything the EVE community doesn't need....it's more SA morons. Bunch of elitist idiots, charging twenty dollars a month for a ******* forum...
I implore the rest of the EVE community to petition CCP to ban these people while their names are still posted.

They charge a 20 dollar one-time fee. Its a great way of filtering out idiots, and it works really, really well. If you don't want to pay, you don't have to. -- Proud member of the [23].

The couple of times I lead a goonfleet was testing but incredibly rewarding (sort of like what I imagine being a teacher on a class trip would be like). That said there were surprisingly few mistakes made considering the sheer number of new players involved sometimes. The organisation and logistics has stunned me and, as one of those directors who almost burned out on handing out frigates and skill packs, I'm glad most of those who stayed are now self-sufficient (even if they won't listen when we tell them not to fly destroyers ).
It was fun watching the see-saw between opposing fleet setups. For example after the first couple of raids 3FA fitted smartbombs and we lost a lot of frigates so we changed fittings and moved out to 6km+.
Heres one of those videos

This sounds like fun, makes me wish I participated. I came to eve because of a story someone posted there awile ago, at the time I couldent play alot - but came back recently now that I have some time.
Of course my first Eve Goon interaction was with Firstname Lastname which turned me off to the whole being a goon in eve thing, but it sounds like I am missing some fun with Goonfleet.

Edited by: Tribal Overture on 12/10/2005 13:23:31 I started out in third wave with Yulai Financial, which ended with our little "war" with Istavaan. Those days alone were enough to keep me coming back to EVE. I love this game, and doubt I will ever stop playing it. Especially when there are other goons to play with.
Great thread Rem.

You have to understand that because there are so many goons in total, that when we recruit to a specific game we're always going to get users with the type of personality that people tend to not like. We can't help that. Unfortunately, in some games, one or two goons with this "bad apple" personality can ruin things for all of us by shouting retarded catchphrases and generally acting like an *******. I think the majority of us in EVE however do a good job of being overall cool guys, at least I'd like to think so.
Don't let one or two people turn you off of our presence in EVE.
