Is it me or have more and more people started switching to pirating? I started killing things because i like the idea of being flashing red, but on my hunting parties i have notice less and less people in the belts mining, i usually come across other pirates and it ends up in abttle for the bounties. Ive even tried venturing further afield but alas still no victims to ransom. If this is true that all people are becoming pirates there will b no one left to hunt or ransom. I may disagree with everything you say, but i will defend unto death your right to say it.

It will naturally balance out. Once pirates stop having ships to buy, some will start making their own and then find how profitable it is to sell ships (no competition). They might decide to sell ships until they have the money to make a stash and go pirating again.
But there will always be those people who like mining...for some reason...and those who mine with macros for money, so there will always be minerals, even if it's not from a good source.
And there will always be those enterprising people who want to play the best economy simulator in the world. Maybe to practice the general idea for a future enterpreneurship. Though the consumers are a little different in Eve than RL.

I think the reason for this is two fold.
1. Old players get bored and want instant action.
2. There is more money in the game, so people have enough to lose ships and thus there is more pvp. -------------

Piracey goes through trends, but most people dont have the commitment to it and give it up.
afaik Tank is the only pirate I know (except my corpmates) who was pirating when I started and is still pirating now

Very good point.

No its just a bunch of ppl that think their pirates, usually it turns out to be PvP'ers who are too scared to take on other PvP'ers so they join pirate corps and start killing miners.
I stand by Tenacha's post above. |

Pirating aka Killing noobs is simple to do. Hence why people do it. I have an alt and I like to roleplay with it. The system he flies in is swarming with HAC pilots popping people left and right. It's simple to do, no profit in what most of these guys are doing.
I switched to piracy when TPS (The Pirate Syndicate) was about. Because most of the pvper's I wanted to learn from were*****y and annoying little kids who say "pwnz". Little did I know so was majority of TPS. Since then I've been trying to run solo pirating (Belt Piracy in a Inty). It's simple and fun. Now I look in my Essence region and I see new pirate corps like Sniggy, Solo pirates following there mark, and other small corps with -10 status leaders camping here and there. It's all cool but yet now like you say, so many people do it. Our little Pirate community are really nice guys who still shoot you. So everyone wants to join in. Which is fine, but it still leaves a bunch of people hunting for someone instead of a few hunting for victims. Eve grows and so does the community. Less and less targets are avaliable. Think that's why I moved back to 0.0 and to my leader to better hone my fighting skills among real targets.
I'm not an old pirate and don't really care for who claims they're older. New or old everyone should enjoy the game the way they want it. When more and more pirates swarm around. It will develope better anti-pirate corps.

One: much money to be made on the low-end minerals. Can mine that as well in >.5 as in <.5 (if not better)
Two: when I mine in <.5 I keep an eye on Local, and no way you'll find me grinding ore in a belt when a bogey enters system
Three: aint gonna take the chance that I'll be ransomed, most 'pirates' just blow you away
I am sure there are still a couple of 'highway men' out there amongst the murderers, but frankly, the risk doesn't weigh up to the losses.
Everyone turning pirate? No.
In my opinion you (ganker pirates, not you personally) have destroyed your own 'market'.

Yea, we all know that pirates through the ages always engaged countries warships and left those traders alone.
Or, pirates has been hunting defenceless targets forever, and thats why they are called pirates.

I tried "policing" low sec space and found it's near impossible to do in small gangs. There are too many ways pirates(or criminals) can hide, dodge, evade, and still wind up killing th miners. Add to this the fact if i shoot the criminal first I can no longer chase them to gates(i dont fly bs's)
It's incredably easier to pirate then to anti-pirate atm. I'm starting to lean more and more on REMOVING sentry guns every day. THey don't stop pirating(in the slightest) and hinder pirate hunting greatly.
Jist my two worthless cents on the matter.

Well I'm currently doing it because of the increased amounts of ratters in low sec (mostly due to the complex). These people, especially the BS guys, go full out on setups these days fitting faction and officer mods like there's no tomorrow. Also most of these people don't realize that fitting 3 billion worth of **** doesn't make you invincible to a PvP fitted BS.
And if that doesn't work.. since the introduction of Mining Barges, killing miners is actually profitable again since a strip miner goes for about 3mil a piece and it takes zero effort to kill a barge.

Everyone should become a Pirate... Its Fun to blow stuff up...
Coalition of Carebear Killers is an informal alliance that seeks to bring together Pirate/PVP Corps so that they can coordinate attacks. If the PVPers stick together, they can dominate this gate.
Within a day of the announcement that this coalition was forming 10 corps or 30 ppl or more (some over 80 members) and 5 corps of more than 20 members expressed interest in joining.
Many of these Corps have Dreadnaughts and some even have multiple Dreads, as well as many experienced PVPers. I think people want to PVP more, but with all the alliance BS many can't combat the blob on their own.
Pirates need to begin to network... We need to realize you don't make alot of friends by killing all neutrals and poddin' them.
Sex0r > you're bounty turns me on.. you seem like the kind of amarrian to dominate me

IMO I think there are less fulltime pirates running around, as a percentage of the larger and ever growing player base.
Most people, especially now dont want the aggro of having to regain the sec they lost from pirating. So, perhaps you are seeing more people doing the occasional pirating/pvp just to get a taster, but not enuff for it to really effect there sec status.
Where it may be true there are less people mining there are still plenty of people in low sec, its just a question of exploring different areas, and applying different techniques to catching them.
