My recent post regarding Elite Learning Skill payoff times inspired me to think up what exactly the names of the Elite Learning Skills would be. After a bit of research, pondering, rumination, and, uh, dictionary consulting , I've come up with the following:
Elite Intelligence: Syntactics Elite Perception: Clairvoyance Elite Charisma: Countenance Elite Willpower: Perseverance Elite Memory: Reminiscence
If the skill "Advanced Learning" is to receive a name other than that, I'd suggest "Transcendence."
Of course, I'm open to other suggestions. ---

I think they should have the following names:
Elite Intelligence: Tenderheart Bear Elite Perception: Fluff of Love Bear Elite Charisma: Bedtime Bear Elite Willpower: Funshine Bear Elite Memory: Share Bear
I think this would accurately represent the people who'd train them

What makes you think that there will ever be elite learning skills? :S --------

Well, perhaps they'd want to make newer players to have 6 month period of semi required skills, instead of the three it is atm?
imho there are enough manditory skills atm, and there is no need for more. What I'd like, is being able to get basic learnings on lvl 5 with character creation, together with gunnery, electronics, engineering, and weapons upgrades.

Edited by: Akilah Ashaki on 19/10/2005 14:27:43 I Would prefer some learning skill that make you train faster skills in category like :
"Gunnery Learning" "Trade Learning"
etc ....
and yes "exclusive skill" might be a good thing, you train that, so you cant train this one. even if it's a pure source of future whineage

Thats an awesome idea imo :), prereq learning 3 or 4 perhaps and low rank, would be great for new chars to get into business faster while still specializing

why new learning skills ?????
maximum total skillpoints atm would be something around 360 million skillpoints. of course u can and u should NEVER reach maximum but ever tought of titans ? or TECH II DREADS ??????
100 days to learn ? then u can forget the game.

Arti...you owe me a monitor. I laughed so hard when I read your reply that I sprayed Coke all over my screen!
Not to detract from the post, however...as I am a big supporter of a third level of learning skills. Excellent suggestions, Trip. And in thinking about how characters evolve over the long run, intellectual advancement stands out. Possession of such skills might be among the prerequisites of becoming Jove one day.

Perhaps limiting characters to training their lower stats or putting a cieling on how high attribs can be.
That would mean that you don't get punished for your starting attributes when you want to train top level skills, while not giving older characters too vast an advantage. Personally i think adding an extra 5 perc and willpower to people who already have 27 in them is a bit much , but when yous start with 4 memory , the extra stats are needed to bring the learning times in line with others.

No to the elite learning skills. This would only benefit older players, and besides, the time taken to gain benefit from lvl 5 advanced is well over 3 years, so its not worth it.
But I would like to see ADV. learning. that would be a nice addition. ------- Bringer of Squirrelly Wrath - Foaminian Card Cult

Elite Learning Skills would just create more that the new players had to grind for to be on the same level as the veterans.
IMO its pointless, and sickening. We don't need any more learning skills. - Proud member of the [23].

It's not worth it because it only adds one more point to your attribute, but if you have another skill to train to level 3, probably 4 for most people, the plus 4 or 5 points will pay off rather quickly. I like the idea of elite learning skills, just not yet. plenty of people like Trip and Caymus already have clone problems. Most new players dont have that hard a time getting started. I saw a 2 month old in a mega the other day. Maybe not in line combat wise with other players, but thats not a bad start.
As for your names trip, i love "Clairvoyance" for perception and "Perserverance" for will power. I would make the intel one either "Acuity" or simply "Genius". For charisma i like "Eccentricity". And for memory i like "Anamnesis"

Elite learning would be cool. When training a rank 12 or higher skill you want higher attributes, unless you want 75 days to go from IV to V.
Besides, nobody will twist your arm to buy and train the skills.

This is an excellent idea that could assist newer players. Instead of doing the learning and advanced learning skills at the start, they could do these specialist learning skills to raise learning speed in certain areas.
There would be nothing to stop older players using them, except that most of the skills affected would already have been learnt (at least until tech 3).

they realy should change the requirements for advanced learning to only require the learning skills at l4. That way it would not be as hard on the people joining the game. Same should be the case if they ever introcude uber-elite-learning skills.
Why on earth would I want to have 5m sp in learning?

Edited by: Zek Maridan on 21/10/2005 16:34:13 Okay, I'm relatively new to this game, but I find this severe backlash against elite learning skills a little silly. The law of diminishing returns comes into effect as your attributes get higher and higher. Yes, older players will be able to learn them faster, but it won't help them nearly as much as the basic learning skills ever did. As your attributes get higher and higher each point cuts less and less off training time. Noobs (like me) don't need to feel obligated to go for elite learning skills (if they existed) because the effect is just not worth it early on (ever?). Elite learning skills are for the perfectionists among us (though I won't lie--I would probably be tempted by them).
If there is a serious problem with the idea of elite learning skills they could maybe restrict the training time by only having a primary attribute (extreme specialization) so you'd learn them slower. Make you earn those extra attribute points.
Just my two cents (though my response has followed the wayward path of the thread--sorry to the OP )

Why not make all requirements level IV for any higher learning for any ship, gunnery, or industrial skill? I know, because everyone would do it and it's not "advanced" anymore.
If do it or don't do it. There are costs / benefits to everything, you decide what to do.

If they put in Elite Learning Skills I'm done with Eve. Advanced Learning Skills are bad enough. Blowing a month of time on skills that don't improve my character ingame but will pay off in half a year (or whenever) is no fun. Blowing even more time for skills that take even longer to pay off would be even less fun.

There's no law that _makes_ you learn those would be skills. You don't _have_ to do anything you don't want to in eve.

but if you don't do adv learning, you're at a considerable disadvantage after a while. after 10 months I have 9m sp, another 10 month old char who did adv learning before me (I waited 3-4 months) has over 10m, a third 10 month old char who didn't do it until last month only has 7m.
that said, I think elite learning would be good, it'd let those of us with particularly low stats in one or two critical areas boost them without having to spend tens of millions on implants. most people would probably only do one or two elite learnings because adv to 5 takes so bloody long, and if anyone actually takes the 4 main stats to adv 5 they're probably one of those 25m+ players who don't have anything to do except train all racial BS to 5 on the off chance that they'll have a use for a dread/titan eventually.

Hey lookie there, someone who really understands the system. One point I'd like to add is that the newer players, though they will never catch up (nor should they), will have the opportunity to train the advanced/elite learning skills sooner in their life than the rest of us. Hence, someone who does decide to train them sooner rather than later will be ahead of where us older folks were when we were that old. More learning skills benefit newer players more than older ones. Older ones just get to make use of them sooner...assuming they were prepaired to train them.
Originally by: Stephen HB I took them all to V because I'm weird. What's your excuse Trip?
My excuse?
- I like being able to have more skill points than others. No one asks you how many "useful" SP you have...they just want to know how many total SP you have.
- I'm a skill collector. It currently takes 3-4 years to actually train every skill in-game. That right there makes training all the advanced learning skills to level 5 worthwhile.
- I'm impatient. I can't stand waiting for long skills to finish. WELL worth maxing out all learning skills so that others will be shorter.
- When a new skill, module, or ship comes out that I don't have the skill for, I am able to train for it faster that most other players. Take the Revelation, for instance. Even though Perception and Willpower are two of my worst attributes, I can train Amarr BS from level 4 to level 5 in a mere 36 days if I felt so inclined. Now, sure someone with high perc/will could do it faster, but not many can say that their worst attribute is 20.9. ---
