At the risk of being so damn simple it is just plain stupid...
This downtime involved turning off one of CCP's multihoming ISP connections so as to attempt to fix/resolve certain connectivity issues.
I just read this entire thread (I know only all 29 responses or so) and not one of you mentioned where you were located at or who your ISP was and what type connection it was.
One word = duh
Do you think it might help CCP to know this? Perhaps they could figure out a pattern?
Is it just me or did IQs suddenly drop in here?

Also!
If you had an increase in performance, tell us the location/ISP info. If you had an decrease in performance, tell us the location/ISP into. If you had no change at all, go away...
All I see here, mostly, is ****ing and moaning, GET OVER IT!
If for no other reason, CCP has proven that they DO solve problems and they use their net income to actually upgrade their hardware and software. What other MMORPG pushes out updates, upgrades and MAJOR game expansions as Religiously as CCP?
Answer (for the slow ones): No One
YOU ARE PLAYING A GAME WITH THE SINGLE LARGEST PERSISTANT WORLD EVER! We are all explorers in this vast new experiment of a virtual world/virtual community.
For shame, you should be proud to be a part of EVE and role with the punches! Do you think Magellen and Columbus always had an easy time on their travels into the vast new unknown?
This is the discovery of a new world.

The web site / forums are flying now. Very noticeable improvement in speed and how fast pages load, compared to before.
Logging in to the game is slightly faster than before. Market is flying, though; loading a category with many skills, like Gunnery, happens almost instantly, whereas before it took 3-5 seconds.
It's kind of the opposite of peak time right now; I'll take a look at how it behaves Sunday during peak, heh.

I just popped some guy in Heimatar region. He had all nice faction loot and some other good named loot. I warp out to count it up. BOOM disconnected. Logged back in BOOM disconnected again. This time for 15 mins. I couldn't get on the forums. I could only look at all of the "EVE-ONLINE" section on the sidebar. This is very bad because I was in space, 90% structure, good faction loot, and flagged. So what is going on here?

We ran around in a big fleet in empire yesterday (trapping 5 who logged off as usual ), and it did feel slightly faster then usual.
But its far from lagfree.

For me, before hardware upgrade, I had bad lag (not so intense as some people) when I was in jita.
Today, the lag as vanished, so the new hardware is doing perfectly his job.
For information: Connected in France with "free.fr" ISP. Connected at 1mbps/20mbps.

inintal login took 3 minutes 24 seconds (yeah i timed it normally round the 2 minute mark) thats the first tiem on my dial up - subsequent connections while i have a cache take about 30 seconds
Otherwise seems to be working well agent mission screens and journal working a lot of quicker - items coming up quicker even the wallet is quicker yay :)_ good work CCP

I agree, i believe Kieron and devs want contructive information so they can build a picture. I also think the 'discos' people are having, are down to external influences, as shown on the ITR (Internet Traffic Report), since they are routers down in Germany, Belgium, London and others across Europe - Asia is an all time low and Australia is below avg (Brisbane/Sydney). Switching off the MH router was a bold move, and I hope it pays off and shows the connection leak (i know what its like to trouble shoot router issues).
By listing where you are and what speed link you have, will help them 'map' potential trouble spots.
I for one only recently started getting dropped, and was usually when trying to access factories or labs. Since the upgrade last night, BM usage and Market/Escrow is fast, undock and factory/lab usage is fast (very). Only slow thing now is EveMail (could be because of some players are HOARDING all eve mails) and the quick fix there would be to limit message retention to 3 months. All in all, a good trade off. I'm sure they will fit more of the SSD servers in due course.
Currently connecting from Scotland,UK via PlusNet on a 2Mb ADSL router link.

Edited by: Mecallie on 21/10/2005 10:57:05 Before: 10-15 seconds to load market details, items, etc. After: 4-5 seconds or less, so nice improvement there.
Before the update I was also suffering from terrible lag, disconnects every 5 minutes or so. Have not had one disconnection after the update.
Location: UK, Scotland, connection via 2Mbit ADSL on Redbus backbone (Metronet). Something did change in the routing after the upgrade :) Blow me up Scotty! |

Edited by: Quade Hale on 21/10/2005 13:10:15 Well. I've noticed an increase in speed certainly. What i've also noticed is that (speedily) I can't login. Upgrade was supposed to be done - when - 19:00 GMT? it's now - what - 13:00 the next day and I still can't log in? Something about full clusters? Eve is throttling logins now? Grrr... The furthest i got was to the character select screen, at which point the game would not let me any further (clicking on any of my characters did nothing). I quit a couple times just now to restart EVE. The running commentary continues below...
I've been on a couple times with less than 3K players on, and it was superfast then. The real test of this upgrade will be when 16K players log on. Then we'll see a difference :D
I started typing a whinefest but I realized this is not the thread to do it in. So instead, I will do it in a mere three short sentences: CCP, get your act together. We pay for service, which we haven't been receiving for almost a week. We would all like to see something good. Soon. I know of another MMORPG that refunds players for time they can't play in... *cough*
I've logged in now (hooray!) and things are pretty quick!!!. Granted, there's only 4000 players on but this level of speediness is unparalleled. Good stuff guys, this is more like it. Location: Ontario, Canada, 4mbps, ISP is Mountain Cable... don't know if anyone's heard of them...
Now get the game balanced, the bugs worked out ... then worry about sending us a new content patch
Man, so totally off topic most of this post. Oh well :P
Good stuff team. Add a dozen or so more of these bad boys and we'll be set to go!

No matter how many times I click it takes me to news, even if i type the address straight into the bar. Does anyone have any ideas before I petition? I'm running up-to-date IE.

Forums are a lot, lot faster. Login was shorter, everything seemed a bit snappier. I'll get a better idea tonight though as I was on soon after TQ came up so lower user count for most of it probably. -- (Battle hardened miner)

There still are session changes. You don't get the message anymore when undocking, so if you switch a ship and try undocking immediately, it takes 30 seconds to load space due to the session change.

Other'n that, fast market, fast buddylist and bookmark viewing, faster alliance membersheet + assets(assets still not fast enough), havn't tested Empire playerload speed increases.

Thank you all for Putting your Location/ISP info!
Hopefully CCP will find this useful.
You can do a Trace route and then use this link to compare where your connection is travelling and what the lag on that network is.

Wasn't one thing that was supposed to be to reduce the lag that it takes to copy/move BMs? If it was, i think its time for new devs its never been slower and more ******* laggy than ever. Moving 15 BMs now takes more than 2 mins, and I had some great timing of having my settings getting deleted. It will take actually like 5 days just to move my BMs that i use daily back into a folder. I think it's about time to stop adding **** into the game and finally get it to work properly. Kali will be a nightmare if you guys dont fix these endless issues with the damn server.

Ya know.. I havent seen much diffrence specificly as I do not have the truly massive content some players might.. However, I am happy to say lag in Oursulaert seems alot more tolerable lately.
On the connectivity trouble shooting, if everyone is failing to contact their isp 1st for direct testing with the best tools, or local serivce/outage reporting, they are just wasting time. The simple mentioning the results those ISP's discovered will paint the picture I promise. Plus typicy if issues are related to an identifyable set of IP addys, an ISP has a much better chance of directly contacting those opperators to deal with their server issues, rout around it, or supply ample explanation to the 'sotuation'. If any of us think CCP is or should call all our ISP's to 'co-ordinate' the effort of re aligning the internet, is not doing their best... Players who are experts at testing though are presumed to be on top of all that.. No offense intended to anyone but the lazy.
Although, if that IP is in CCP's pool, wink wink, nudge nudge..

Whilst faffing on singularity I clicked the LOD setting on the graphics setting which somehow eluded on my 2 years of playing . That and disabling sound has given me a massive boost to fps.
As for general playing and new hardware, jumping seems to be quicker then it was as does the market tab. Haven't yet tried a complex but it all seems pretty damn smooth atm

there are still ppl confusing the two SEPARETED problem complexes. 1. gameplay lag slow loadingtime when enter system, undock, evemail, bookmarks folders etc... those are eve server related and its CCP s responibility to fix it. 2. frequently loss of conection to game server, unable to access game server... etc this is a internet routing problem and OUT of CCPs responsibility. complaining and nagging ccp to fix it is not constructive. CCP has no influence on this. complain to ur ISP, they are responsible to conect u well to any URL u whant to, witch they do not atm. ccp cant do anything else about it and i am verry shure they DO nag to their ISP for a better connection service. CCP delivers a great product by working hard on solving every possibe problems their customers have and now a third party screw all they work and investment. bet they are way more angry about this problems than u are.
