It isn't about being soft spoken or having to espouse some sort of sickeningly sweet forced kindness. The point is that someone's going to generally be better received if they don't make themselves out to be a dickbutt at every opportunity. This is Communication 101 level stuff and a no-brainer.

Thank you. Obviously we won't tell you how to do your job (too often ), but keeping the iconic "welcome" screen should be in the best interest of everyone artsy. Such screens are a psychological need after the unavoidable backlash caused by launcher behavior (every launcher behavior, not just EVE's) as it's not funny nor mood-setting to press button, wait wait wait for update/connection stuff, press button again and eventually get bacon. A "welcome" screen allows the player to shift back into "game mode".
As EVE goes, the animated login screen was liked to the point that leaking it from Sisi and rating/commenting it was one of the player-made hype routines before each expansion. May not be the 20th nor the 100th most important thing to do in EVE, but it still is important, and in terms of NPE, it's worth its weight in gold. I *STILL* remember the first time I opened the client and was welcomed by the image of a planet being bombarded from space. It was like "woah, where i am getting into?".
And one doesn't get into the MOMA by greeting folks with some white bars on a black screen and then a blatant "formality" screen... The Greater Fool Bar-áis now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden!-áIngame chat channel: The Greater Fool Bar |

I wouldnt say they silently removed the Jukebox, IIRC there was a devblog from the audio team explaining the changes weeks in advance. If people didnt read it well enough to understand what was happening is another thing altogether.
I didnt actually realise we had a new launcher, ive always launched both clients from a pinned item on my taskbar which goes direct to the exe file. |

What? I switched to starting directly with the exefile BECAUSE char switching with the new launcher is a PITA.
If the new launcher supported storing and switching between multiple logins synchronously, I could see it being useful, but I'd hardly call that issues being 'smoothed out'. Plus, that functionality would pretty much defeat the purpose of the SSO mechanism. |

Begging to differ... It's not just a launcher, dambit. In addition to launching the game, it patches the game, displays ads, displays videos (videos? - yes videos), processes sign ons, links to several CCP services, devblogs and patchnotes.
The sad fact is that this "mere launcher" cannot launch the game until it contacts some web servers and populates itself with a load of content that is extraneous to simple, basic function of launching the game.
I hope that the CSM will thoughtful consider the risk of CCP overloading this new front end with too many bells and whistles, and creating a potential single point of failure that could block access to the game, (as we have already have seen is a real possibility).
To guard against this possibility, I would hope that the alternative - and truly simple - method of launching the game (i.e. ExeFile.exe) remains as it is for the long term - with the sign on functionality intact. |
