Bump, I think this is a good idea, and personally think it'd help the economy more than harm it. If I could take over the abandoned POSes in my system then they could be put to use for moon mining and the like, and this would happen a lot quicker than bashing it down before being able to use the spot. It'd bring a greater volume of people trying their hand at POS related activities. |

So I guess you don't want your offline POS ruined by someone else with a hacking module? Ch+½j+ì Katrina Oniseki ~ (RDC) Chief Operations Officer ~ [I-RED] Director of Public Relations |

Oh look, this thread again.
Seriously, this game is full of mind blowing hassles for players. This is one of them. It will never get changed or fixed, just like a lot of other things in the game. And for a bunch of devs who want to "make players blow things up," this seems to me like it would be a "couple of beers and a long night at the office" fix. Sadly, it won't happen. |

You're free to shoot at my POS any time you care to wardec me. Which, incidentally, opens you (and the rest of your POS bash fleet) up for a day-runining of your own in a way that a hacking module doesn't.
POSes owned by active corps can be removed by a wardec and some shooting. POSes owned by disbanded corps can be removed by a petition and some waiting. Name a type of POS that can't be removed under the status quo. "the risk of having your day ruined by other people is the cornerstone with which EVE was built" -CCP Solomon

It's an old idea indeed. I made threads about this before.

Have it so offlined towers use fuel at a greatly reduced rate instead of none, and make it so they fall out of the sky upon running out. Something like 40 blocks a day (instead of per hour) for large towers. That's something like half a PLEX per year to "rent" the moon. |

That's not taking over, that's destroying.
There should be a mechanic that allows players to to unanchor and steal offlined towers (which are EVERYWHERE in WSpace right now) How much herp could a herp derp derp if a herp derp could herp derp. |

This is a great idea. The fact that an unfueled (effectively unprotected) POS can't be "boarded" and captured is just silly. What, they've never discovered a cutting torch in New Eden? I would like to see another use of the hacking game and this seems like a very effective method of broadening the application of that skill to other situations from the "niche" it currently occupies. |

Chitsa Jason wrote:Would be great usage point for new hacking mini game. It is an old but great idea.
I would definitely like to see hacking implemented in more of the game, as well as salvaging. That being said I would say that the tower would have to be offline for a given amount of time before it could be hacked. It would also send out a mail the the corporation whose tower is being hacked. Causing a hacking "reinforcement timer" of sorts, if the defender wants to keep the tower they would have to counter hack the tower.
That being said, I would also like to make the outright assumption that the OP is too lazy to actually bash a POS themselves and too cheap to buy their own tower.

Hacking pos's to remove or take them over has been mentioned before and i'm all for it.
It would make Null sec conquest immensely more enjoyable and provide profit incentive to the invading army.
In real life armies get to reap the benefits of enemy infrastructure, it should be that way in eve as well. Picking up what the enemy has hastily left behind.
Having to fight over a region and then grind the billions of HP of left over structures and playing Space janitor is just terrible game play.
Quick removal of offline structures should be a thing |

Well this post seems to have a life of its own and keeps going so, I will keep it up. I agree about invading army's getting the spoils, this would allow this to happen or could do, just like taking over a station in a real type situation if you took one over you would take all the stuff in it. that that would be fun |

There are already means to take over POSs.
1) (low/null) shoot it. 2) (high) wardec, see rule number one.
You just have to un-anchor everything before you try to drop a new tower. Don't be a cheap bear, you can at least buy a tower.
