I have an idea it might not be a good idea but could create a new role and help clean up space of old POS that have been left un-fueled for a long time. I have come across a lot POS that have not been fueled and know a couple that have been abandoned for over a year. So why not make a system to take these over / steal them. So how might this work: If a POS has not been fueled for 15 days, then it becomes GÇ£at riskGÇ¥.
To take over a POS you will need to hack the on board computers, so using the new Hacking system you could hack the POS:
Small has 1 hack needed Medium has 2 hacks needed Large has 3 hacks needed
Once hacked you will have the options to:
Take over and refuel Take down to be used as you want Steal anything in it or in ship hangers etc
This would mean if you find a POS say in a WH long abandoned a smaller corp could move in without too much logistics. This could encourage more corps into WH, Low and Null space. But normal standings rules will apply in High Sec.
Well please comment and put your ideas up but this could be a fun a useful addition, and should not take CCP not to much coding as most of the elements are already in game.

I agree with Gun if it is up a running, and that approach is fine, but for abandoned POS's this could fit in well with the new Hacking process, and POS bashing can be such a pain for an abandoned POS |

The economy would keep going with this idea. It might even increase.
First, the player could either take over or dismantle and sell the POS. If he sells the POS, that not only makes the sale, but frees up a moon for another POS.
If there is loot left in the POS, that could be sold on the market.
If nothing blew up, no one would buy your stuff. |

That was how I looked at it and would mean that some people might make this a new way to make isk and get lost isk back into the system |

Yep, more about making moons available than finding free POSs. Those buggers are all over the place!

This idea is far from new or original, but it's good, and CCP is interested in applying the new hacking mechanics into areas outside PVE sites.
Fingers crossed for this one making it :)

I've been thinking about this for the past few days. It's really wierd when you find 5 POS in one system and they are all offline just sitting there. There should be a way of making people pay for leaving their stuff offline without bashing it. |

Updating "write down all the things" to point to this thread instead of the current "little things" post.
Personally, I'd like to see POSes be capturable/conquerable/hackable. Add more content for the "farms and fields" approach to populating non-hisec.

I think this idea is great. Anyone have any idea how many random abandoned POS are out in WH space? It seems like every other WH I scan down has an abandoned POS or two. I think with the hangars and whatnot that they should need to be hacked individually, but have them be easier than the POS itself. |

Thanks for the input, I hope someone from CCP has a look or might even comment please keep pressing like if you like this idea. and its a good point that you can't take down a POS in high sec unless you war dec the corp and if the corp has shut then it's there till someone from CCP takes it down.

Maybe give the user a suspect tag for activating the hacking module on the POS. It would only matter at all in High sec |

I'd like to see hacking an online POS be possible, but I think that abandoned equipment should eventually unanchor itself without being removed from space. Then someone can come along and steal it. Fit a warfare link to your tech 1 battlecruiser. Train Wing Commander. Get in the Squad Commander or Wing Commander position. Your fleets will be superior to everyone else's. |

I could see this adding to the game in a good way.
+1 Cloaking being on a ten minute manual cycle timer? (Author: Bree Okanata) Fine. As long as there is a ten minute timer for being docked in a station. Also, you can't stop moving in the game. Just add in a way so every ten minutes you are randomly warped to the nearest other player. Keeps people from going AFK. |

This would be a bull in a china shop way to remove anchored poses that are being used in high-sec to "save" spots. Gotta deal with the moon savers first before something like this can be thought out.
It'd be nice though to have a way to take the faction poses in class 3 and below, which have been forgotten in wormholes. Those poses are a royal pain because it is entirely unprofitable to bring them down for reasons other then strategic placement and tactical superiority.
Maybe if "it was under 10% hull" and then "you could hack it..." with a 95% chance it blows up instead of letting you steal from or use it.
Every pos bash would end with poses going to the winner, could make the PI and POS market crash as they are |

The easiest solution for those "wh placement POS's" is to make the hacking process an aggressive action. In highsec, that means you have to wardec the corp/alliance in order to "hack" the POS (without concord intervention).
Frankly, the biggest issue with "offline" POS's is their ridiculous EHP makes it simply not worth the time to take them down, unless you really, really, really want that spot.
Let people hack it and collect it.... just make it require declaring war for highsec.... Now you have a conflict driver, some risk, and if those "place holders" really want to secure the POS, they simply need to online it during the war!

Petitions work fine against those. This is EVE - Everybody Versus Everybody.

No it would not, if you bash a POS down over a couple of days it would blow up as it had fuel, this only for those abandoned POS and those people trying to sit on moons at no cost. Eve is about risk if you want to sit on a moon in a un-fuel POS you should be able to lose it easily. |
