in this game, I feel there should be a way to perform personal grudges without... haveing to fly 10 jumps get past mOo, get to a 0.0 zone, and fight the other person. espeically when they dont "want" to fight you, but LOVE harassing you by takeing your stuff.
ORE THEIFT IS A PROBLEM! it is theft. but as many people say... it should be legal by game rules... I think so to... but I think there should be a way for the "player" to "punish" the theif. I mean, I could create a new char, train amarr indy1 and within 4 hours of creating my char, be on my way to becomming one of the most hated people in EVE!
My Proposal... you steal ore from person... that person wants you dead. CONCORD protects you... there should be a "personal war" or "Personal Dispute". So that I can... take care of annoyances. You would have to dock, pay maybe 50k isk. and then Concord gives you the OK to kill that person as many times as you want, anywhere you want. with NO penaltys. It should take 2 hours after you pay for it to happen!
Problem your thinking "but someone would go to a 1.0 zone, dock declare the war on all the newbies and they get killed legally"
NO! you can fix that.
Link a timer from character creation for 1 week after account created. you will be safe from personal wars. for 1 week. but you want to be able to declare war on the new char because it's 3 hours old, and stealing your cargo already!
That is a Solution to the Ore theifs that would also help many other people. It would allow newbies to fight each other and see what PvP is like. I would allow me to kill certin people that REALLY annoy me in empire space... it would also, keep people being nice! cuz, if your in a 1.0 zone being a jerk to everyone... everyone is gonna kill you.
so that enforces NICE game play :) -Rei

Being able to wage personal war on an individual is a good idea.
Too many people hide behind a positive sec rating.

I like personal war too. You can't declare war on the starter corps for the obvious reason that it would open up griefing but at the same time it lets people get away with things they wouldn't do if they were in a corp. Personal war would solve this. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Edited by: Molly on 04/08/2003 11:31:12 I know a lot of people who would love to declare personal war to just everyone, including me :P.
Self-administered justice was never a solution either.

Molly, how do you stop bad seeds who hide in the noobie corp and are protected by CONCORD? If you shoot at them you get podded back to the 80s when neon was in fashion then the deathstar destroys your home planet. CONCORD is not so nice. On top of that you take a security hit. Maybe personal war should just be for the noobie corp since they are immune to regular war. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

"repeat pod until you subscribe" is indeed a "little" harsh (and I don't think that CCP would be happy to facilitate that ) Some possibility for taking revenge in 1.0 space should exist, but it should be balanced somehow, and fit in the setting.
What if... it would be possible to bribe the local authorities to turn a blind eye when you go after somebody? The patrols would not notice you, and although you might take a sec hit, it would be a relatively small one.
The important thing here is that pirating in high sec should NOT be profitable, griefing should be very expensive, but personal revenge should be possible! ------------------------------------------ My bio

You got to be kidding me. The secure containers are a joke. They hold little to nothing in size. If I used Secure Containers to mine I would probably A) spend more money on the containers then I would get for mining. B) Have people whining because of all the lag it would create at the belt.
Let me see you fit 1/2 a million veldspar in secure containers.

I saw 3 battleships fight concord in empire space for well over 20 minutes. You can fight others in high sec. space, its just that you need to be very very good at it.
You'll need to kill the thieves in a few shots, and then warp away and jump before Concord scrambels you.
On Personal war, what if i seea ship, scan it for contains, decide to loot it and make it easy by decalring war on it. Say, I do this daily and know how to outfit my ship and have some friends nearby, the target will have little chance.
This is not a hijack

I dont know if you guys ever played Ultima Online but here I go...
UO used to have two "facets", trammel and felucca.
In trammel everyone could do mining without fear of beeing attacked. Of course this led to the obvious thing: griefing idiots start swarming around you like flies over a pile o' sh*t. If you dropped something it vould be stolen and followed by the most witty commends that the #ñ!ñ%@ could come up with. (ie 1 r0xX0r5 ur B0xx0rz 0r3 man!1!11)
Dont I know the d3wd talk?
The good thing was that as a miner you had the choice to go to felucca.
There anyone can attack anyone. Smartass kids vouldnt come and grief you because they knew you could kill them if annoyed too much. Of course it was risky business to mine there but it sure was alot more fun and challenging.
So, here's my point. *drumroll*
Move out to non empire space, start mining ops with your friends, some doing the mining, some doing the hauling, someone defending etc.
If someone comes around and starts picking up your ore, you are free to pod him back where he came from.
In general, I'd assume this game has ALOT more to offer if you do your stuff outside the concord controlled space. And I dont mean for the pirates only.

Yep, that's a risk that needs to be taken into account.
One way of dealing with it is a delay between the declaration and the "personal war", but that would mean that the target has ample time to get away (this would still be great for countering ore pilferers)
The other way would be attaching a cost in ISK to be able to attack another player relatively undisturbed- to be payed when docked on a station. This would also give the target a head start, although smaller, but you would have to be pretty miffed to want to pay CONCORD (or whoever) for this. It would prevent pirating somewhat, however (unless you know your target to carry fabulous wealth!)

Just an idea to stop personal disputes being used for 'Griefing'
Instead of a timer on the account being declared against why not make it very simple.
Everyone can have 1 and only 1 Personal Dispute at a time.
To cancel a dispute takes 24hrs. so you cant just switch targets. To set a dispute costs ISK per 24hr period.
I'd go for disputes handled that way. because not all disputes involve Cargo Cans.
and yes i'd probably be targeted for disputes just because of my name Its amazing how many paranoid people play this game.

I know a bether idee, dont leave your cargo in space. Why you think in real lifes fences are build arround construction yards? Not for safty i can tell. And no.. the owner may not kill anyone who steals there. He has to leave it to the police to find the person who committed the crime.
Best sallution i think would be to make a payable jettison where you can set a pass on the container that you do jettison. It still has the same abilities as regular jettison containers but you can only open it with the right pass. Looting will be terminated this way.
Pops 2nd problem ofcourse... they still can be shot.

"" That item does not belong to you ""
The tag is already in the code so I see no reason not to be able set a flag to the thief and make it allowable to set a personal war on them. No way to go to war with just anyone so it stops the ability to grief.
Same could apply to the pirate that held you up. He's already tagged for firing on you and you could declare war on him alone, not his entire corp. He is the wanted man, not all his freinds too, and he's wanted by you not your entire corp unless of course they have all been fired on by him as well.

You forget the easy way griefing will be increased... You see someone "new" to the game with a great Bestower full of Megacyte in secure space. With your BS you set "dispute war" shoot him to pieces loot his cargo and log off 24h and problem solved. (Just an example)
The retribution system would fail in every point and i see more holes then bennefits from its use. These holes only increase grief actions as you call it.
CCP: Give the ability to set a pass on jettison containers maby even for a reasonable fee. This will terminate the call against looters imidiatly and the programm code is easy to perform. (There are allready containers with pass on them remember)
Ofcourse only my 2 ISK.

Well here agian.
I am a newbie.
I am in my n00b ship. *mines rock* *hauls back 1500 veld* *un-loads* *un-docks* *mines rock* *hauls back 1500 veld* *un-load* rince and repeat about 100 times, and your newbie now has a merlin... (each rince takes 5 minutes) so it takes about 10 hours to buy your first merlin!
DONT WORRY KIDs!!! It dont mine any faster at ALL!
so now lets go for my first Osprey.
I need 2m worth of ore... and hauling 5k/trip or less... you would need a...400 trips... 400*5=20,000 that's next to 60 hours.
YAY! I LIKE THIS IDEA! it will take n00b1 65 hours to buy his first cruiser! and dont forget! it only mines 2x faster than his newbie ship!
Ok you guys. Secure canisters is a flopped idea. it needs to be left in there cuz their useful... NOT FOR MINEING.
I dont CARE about ore theifs. I think you takeing ore from can should be "perfectly" legall :D
I also think that if you can rip my purse off my arm since it's not 'in' me. (the canister is my purse) I can get my gun outta my pocket and shoot you in the leg!
This game is about the Player VS player interaction. With the way ores are screwed up you can make 2/5th the money in a 1.0 zone you can in a 0.1 zone.
Ok considering I can go full miner setup and put 2 more miners on in empire space.... I can strip mine just as fast! (value)
And there should be risk for EVERYONE everywhere.
A way to reduce the risk of killing newbies would be " IF account > age 7 days " So that means you've been playing EVE for a week... your not a totally new newbie.
As I said. There will be a 3 hour delay before I can take action upon the personal dispute. 3 HOURS. do you know how many systems you can get in 3 hours? (a lot if you never play the game, or do anything but steal ore)
Ok so that gives you 3 hours. Once that's up I have 24 hours of killing on you. (I like to repeat pod theifs) but anyways. 3 hours gives them time to get away. If that person ****es off enough people he will get on 4 or 5 peoples kill list, and be wanted 24/7 essentially he wouldnt be able to steal much ore. he still COULD. but his bad karma would do him in.
ALSO : Allow us a way to pay Agents to see who player A. is related to... was it player gX433!
Ah yes! That means the players could find your alts. ok yeah... that could be bad for players... but it would also be bad of people who create an alt, and just for fun, **** people off.
I think Ore theift is TOTALLY LEGAL. I Think Ore theifs should be repeat podded untill they quit EVE. I also think I should have a way to "totally" legal kill the people stealing my purse. -Rei _________________________ Trolling is bad. Please dont do it. -rei |

Not useful for mining? Heh, there are people in my corp solo mining in their ruptures in .2 space because of them. When I tried it out I had 4 mining lasers, 3 medium drones and 2 Malkuth Assault launchers loaded with rockets. No problem whatsoever. In fact bcause of the high HP for the secure containers, they survived splash damage from missile impacts where loot containers didn't.
How about everyone quit trying to take up more developer time to avoid taking responsibility for their own actions? Secure containers are perfectly servicable and implemented now. They solve the problem of an ore thief too well, as there is no counter to a secure container. Use the damn things and quit trying to have even more complicated 'solutions' implemented because you're too lazy or too greedy to use what's there.

You can have enough to buy a Merlin in two hours. No wonder why you are having problems your not mining the right way at all.
My first two days in Eve, and I was clueless, I figured out that if you mine plag and sell the ore back instead of refining, in a reaper no less, you'll be able to make 20-25 trips at about 5700 a trip an hour. That's over 200k in 2 hours.
And I'm sure you'd make a lot more if you didn't quick sell too.

yup I could buy a merlin within 2 hours. I want to be able to do two things. just so you know. the way I mine, I can buy a merlin in about 30 minutes... that's useing a newbie ship! HOW you ask? Simple. I dont haul. I bought that cruddy bestower Mk.1 for 250k.
Ok. But what if you try and take my stuff?!
I cant do anything? Even if I could... I couldnt.
I am proposeing you give us a way, to kill people who get lots of bad karma, and then, nothing happens.
ALLOW US TO KILL THESE PEOPLE.
Wait! Once I get my bestower I could just continually haul ore! for myself! All those canisters are free! I could make about 500k every 5 minutes now that I'm stealing! YAY! GO ME! I am takeing other people's tiems, flying up to their ship, ramming their ship, digging into their cans, and warping off! GO ME!
Now I can buy my Moa (who needs an osprey when you can get a Moa) in 30 minutes, now that I'm ore stealing!
And HEY! No-one can do anything to me! ok, so what this char is stuck in 1.0 space! SO?! All I do with this char is steal ore?! BUAHHAHA. -Rei

1st of all, what ore thief would be stupid enough to accept a duel in an industrial? The only way that would work is if it isn't consentual.
2nd if it wasn't consentual, what furbearer would tolerate a game option that would allow anyone to fly up to them and blow them apart with NO repercussions? None.
You are using an object in the game that has a vast amount of cargo space to allow large lootable items to your advantage. It borders on an exploit, in my opinion. CCP, for a change, decided to be nice and allowed that to remain instead of messing with the code. Those containers aren't secure and vulnerable to theft/destruction/extortion. They also provided an alternative which is completely secure and nigh invulnerable, but requires more work on your part to use. I think the implications are clear:
USE THE DAMN SECURE CONTAINERS OR FACE LOSING YOUR WORK
