To try to explain what happened during the FanFest is a daunting task, so much so that information overload would be an understatement. Oveur was up to the challenge and has written one of his longest Dev Blogs to date.
A Wedding Proposal (video and pictures to be provided later), the EVE Championships, Carriers, Motherships, Titans, Red Moon Rising (the next major content update), Kali, the China partnership, and much, much more are contained in this blog.

With all the information in the blog, there are a lot of discussion topics. Please keep the replies to the Blog and in this thread constructive. Do notflame or rant. Some players may not agree with the developmental paths that CCP is taking with RMR, Kali, or Serenity, and we welcome discussion.
However, replies such as, "You're a bunch of ^*%@tards for doing <feature, expansion, etc.> will be deleted and a warning issued. These are big changes, major moves and all have been given much thought, discussion, planning and worry before moving forward. We are doing what we feel is the best for Tranquility, EVE and its players.

Whats the spread of npcs going to be like with the additions of dreads, battlecruisers and destroyers?
Obviously dread spawns will be 0.0 only but what sec status are destroyers and battlecruisers going to be present in?

about NPC changes, what NPCs, mission NPCs or normal belt rats?
so if I can barely do lvl3 missions, I cannot handle them anymore with the new RMR?

The NPC changes are detailed in an earlier blog by TomB, look it up
I'm going to amalgate my questions:
-I take it Carriers will fit large turrets?
-Will the Jovian Mothership's name be changed?
-If ship subsystem destruction is implemented,w ill you be able to do that to NPCs, and will NPCs be able to do it to you?
-What would be the time frame on the China cluster going up? Serenity is a nice name, BTW.
How will you handle time-on laws? Missions like the Angel Extravaganza are going to be tough for players to finish within one 'online period'.

Very nice name picked for the Chinese shard ^^
One concern... with the possibility of 'even moderately succesful' Chinese version outnumbering the 'rest of world' version like 70:30 or more, and with the need for all content to be localized... how likely it is for the content development to become focused on the Chinese version first, and then possibly being translated for what becomes 'that other, less profitable server', x months down the road..?

The term "mothership" is just something else than "big carrier", no connection to the Jove mothership. Carriers do not have turrets slots. It's offensive capabilities is X-Large fighters. Might have a launcher slot tho but I doubt it. Build cost of the standard ones is in the same ballpark as the Dreads, probably cheaper, we haven't decided yet. Targeting ship sub-systems is a far away, but I'd want it to apply to both player and NPC's otherwise it doesn't make sense. If it in general is feasible and requires little load, it shouldn't necessarily mean the that it woulc dost more for NPC's to do it. There is no ETA on Serenity, we're in partner negotation so it does not exist yet.

It was said during the fan fest that the flag would alow the owner of the can to fire on the person who took from the can. This will NOT spawn concord, it will only alow you to take action against a theif. Ofc you have mining lasers mounted so good luck, but it¦s a step in the right direction. _ ____ _______ _________________________________________________________

I was worrying about that, but the Devs in Iceland own EVE, and they don¦t speak Chinese so I think we¦re good.
I am scared that the Buying of in game items will need lots of coding and that CCP iceland Devs will have to work on it rather than CCP Shanghi Devs.
One thing I did get from the Fanfest was CCP loves this game, they want to make it work and understand the problems like we do. We just have to trust they won¦t screw us over and I¦m not worrying about that after meeting them. _ ____ _______ _________________________________________________________

"I was worrying about that, but the Devs in Iceland own EVE, and they don¦t speak Chinese so I think we¦re good."
Well, am mainly wondering if it doesn't become more practical to simply form secondary team based in China, that'd be focused on making things like these COSMOS constellations and NPC missions (since this is where main part of dialogues and whatnot occurs) ... that way they can get large amounts of inexpensive content that doesn't require extra work with english->chinese translation, but at the same time Tranquility gets rather screwed in such process... since there's far less incentive to run the chinese->english content translation than it'd be to do it the other way around, due to projected disparity in numbers o.O;

Good job on quietly adding that bit at the bottom of "no planetary flight.".Yet another broken promise.
Everyone wants to see Tier 3 battleships, so instead os saying you'd like to see them, why don't you focus more attention on getting them in for Red Moon Rising?

I like the idea's and I love the plan to have the China server the same as Tranquility. Makes for more devs and more juicy posts about all the cool stuff comming soon(TM)

Edited by: Harry MacDougal on 23/10/2005 21:37:11 I posted this question in the dev blog as well, but since the devs are actually answering here, I'll move it :)
It is my understanding that Jettison cans were never meant to be used for mining. However, the GMs/Devs/however decides exploits decided that ore theives balanced the huge amount a jet can can hold. As far as I know, the size of the jet can was determined based on the largest amount of stuff (a fully loaded Iteron Mk V) that could be left after a ship was blown up. Since there will soon be criminal flagging on the ore theives, I have a few questions:
1. Will jet cans be made smaller to compensate for the decreased ability of ore theives 2. Will jet cans be made bigger since freighers can hold me, thus aiding the miners who complain that all the cans are too small. 3. Will only the person who laid the can be able to fire, or will all his corpmates also get that right? 3a. If only the person who laid the can gets that right, will there be a restriction that only allows that person to put things into the can?
I'm pleased with the idea as it pertains to lootcans, but I'm worried about ccp killing off several more professions simply because they're on the wrong side of the law. Piracy has all but left eve, and bounty hunting is still very difficult, although the greater ship lifespans may help with that (or may result in bigger gankfleets).
BTW, the rest of the expansion looks amazing!
EDIT: Typos --------------
Its just a matter of semantics. You call it a drinking problem, and I call it a reality exit strategy... |

Please explain the "cultural" aspect of Chinese E-Baying...
Are you saying that the Chinese players may use E-Bay, but Western players cannot..or we can if we only sell to the Chinese...
To allow E-bay selling will ruin the game...I can't believe you are going to allow it and say it is "cultural".

ôWe're also doing two Tech 2 Battlecruisers, the Command Ship and the Fleet Command ship,ö ThatÆs great news I cannot wait to see what you come up with and the Mindlinks sound good.
ônow focusing on prolonging combat by adding new defensive skills and improvements on a lot of defensive modules.ö I am still converned about this. ItÆs a great idea but my problem is the new shield extenders on the test server shorten combat not prolong it. Due to the increase in signature per extender a battleship with 4 extenders with the new changes is a lot weaker and lasts less time in combat over what we have now.

I think it's pretty obvious that Isk and equipment generated on the Serenity will not be compatible or usable on Tranquility. For identification purposes this should not be an issue either, as ISK will bear the Chinese symbol for ISK (assuming they have one) and all equipment will have the Chinese name.
If Isk and equipment are not interchangable between the two servers, it will affect us not at all.

Please point out where in Oveur's post where he said that they will allow Chinese players to sell items on eBay. You can't find it? That's because he didn't say selling on eBay. He said selling of items by the company that made the game or inter-player item trading.
Frankly, I don't understand why people are so adamant about selling items in-game. Think about it in this sense. You go on the in-game market and find a nice sword that you want to buy. Someone had to put in hours of mob killing to get that sword. You had to put in hours into the game to earn the gold to buy it. How is this any different than say, you spending time working in real life to earn the cash to buy the item using real money, instead of spending time in-game and earning the gold to buy it?
Regardless of your viewpoint on this matter, the selling of virtual items for real cash is here to stay. Look at the number of games out there that are free to play, but have items you can buy for real cash. There's Talesweaver, Shattered Galaxy (and all Nexon games), Gunbound, etc...
Just as you would denounce someone for buying virtual items for real-life cash because it's 'unfair and taking the easy way out', I can just as easily accuse you of taking the easy way out for buying a powerful weapon with in-game gold instead of killing the mobs yourself and getting it. Either way, you had to earn the gold/cash by sacrificing time.
P.S. I have never bought any virtual items using in-game cash because I think it's a waste of my money, but I fail to understand why everyone is so adamant against it.

Not all people even work for the real life money that they spend. Many of them are just given money by their parents. Limiting the aquisition of items to ingame currency is the only way to make sure everyone has a fair shake.

Quite slim, only one person at CCP speaks Chinese
I did email about 7 different CCP addresses in an attempt to make it 2 people but I guess it got lost in the post :( I'll post here instead. Short version is, if you need an eve player who knows all the terminology and has a near perfect command of English then email me. __

We might have to notch it down a bit in the end but it's currently post-Kali and requires a full expansion in itself.
To do so would push Kali back into roughly 2007. So, what would you rather have? More content now with planetary flight delayed to its own expansion, or no major content added for 18 months to make absolutely sure that planetary flight was in Kali.
I'm not saying you made the wrong decision, obviously delaying content patches would be stupid, what i'm saying is that it shouldn't have happened in the first place, because CCP promised planetary flight for Kali, and they could not deliver.Regardless of the reason, they broke a promise that was made over a year ago
I know it hasn't been cancelled, but it seems that everything that requires an ounce of effort is delayed in EVE, and it just get's very annoying after a while.
But i'm not too concerned about planetary flight, I would like to know how high on the priority list Tier 3 Battleships are.I know a lot of people that would personally give their left arm to have them in by the end of the year, and they IMHO should be higher up the list then Tech 2 Battlecruisers and Destroyers.

Ref: The Chinese servers
Question
Will U.S people be able to play on Serenity? I'm more then two years behind many of the original players and might want to take up the opportunity to start fresh and competitive rather then getting blown or hunted down and blown up or chased off in Low Sec space for mining hi-val mats.
Comments
They ain't kidding about Asians selling items for $$$, but it's not cultural really. What it is is very difficult to control and beings that it's taking place in a far away place in a far away language makes it even moreso.
They also will wring out exploits left and right. Again not cultural, they just are super competitive in their mmorpg.
They also will form very tight very organized structures and they will keep the pressure up. If they came to tranquility enmasse, the Asian Clique would be ruling the prime regions with iron fists.
They will have real life partnerships where they farm spawns day and night and rake in ISK ergo $$$ doing so.
Suggestions
CCP should undermine Ebay. They should have an offline auction system for ingame items for in game ISK only. Perhaps some systems interspersed within each region of empire space only, where items have to be escrowed for offline auctions, and can only be bought there and delivered there. Then let the people launder their ISK into real $$$ on ebay. Who cares and why. Ya can't be powerleved with it. Heck, CCP can charge $1 extra per month for this ability -- that safe guarantees off trades.
Allow account sales at the in game auction place, but the toon goes into escrow and can't be played until sold or auction canceled or no bid. Heck, lets turn toons into book marks, or contracts corporations can sell.

They said nothing prevents it but the technology at hand today. The whole point of going there is so that the Chinese people can have a good connection rate because trying to connect to the server in London from there would be bad and visa versa. But I don't know about the connection quality from the US. But yeah, it will be possible.
Quote: CCP should undermine Ebay. They should have an offline auction system for ingame items for in game ISK only.
That would simply not work. You think people sell on Ebay because they have problems selling in game? They do it because they want to make real money for their greedy little mits off of their game play. (Which is ilegal under the EULA btw)

Again, you don't understand the kind of damage it does to a game where the rampant selling of in game money for out of game money causes mas inflation in the market model. And that kind of suggestion, where CCP get something from it, will not stop them, they will pump up the exchange rates they sell isk for to make up for this, which can be seen in real terms as a tax. Things get taxed, prices go up, like oil in a way, so the net income remains the same.
And if people suddenly could do this without the fear of having their accounts wiped and maybe legal action too, then it would be a wider problem that it is now. The only difference is that CCP would not have to worry about it anymore. And after trying so hard since release to stamp it out, why would they suddenly legitemise it so they can make money off it too? I can't see CCP being that hypocritical personally. ------

I don't think CCP will -create- items for the purpose of selling them. I think they'd rather have the items ingame sold from player to player. That way, CCP is not directly involved in the trade, they merely facilitate it.

mmm interesting directions and im sure a lot of stuff will be altered due to suggestions and other issues and discussions before kali comes in. These are grand organisational statements (some very good ones) i guess it comes down to a lack of development staff due to the low profit margins at present (RL business needs to have its priorities after all) all in all at least we are getting RMR (mining boost is very much welcome) tractor beams outdoing scavenger drones at present (probably a good idea but what happens if 2 tractors are put on an object at once - will there be relative strengths related to skills etc. This will fit in with ore theif (can theif) marking in some way.
Well looking ok so far just going to sit back keep the discussions going and see where we go

No one even asked about this, Jove space is just more space that we don't need. I would bet we're not going to see it anytime soon.

To open jove space is not as simple as it sounds. Sure in concept its a case of adding gates. But what about: - Market Seeding - Sec Status changes - Addition of NPC fleets - NPC Convoys - Adding roid belts (Yes, there are none in jove space supposedly for obvious reasons) - Working out a sec status map (To help ore distribution) - Either making a pirate faction specific to the Jove, or picking a current one to populate the area that is low sec
Also, the current justification behind Jove Tech (Ships/weapons) not being available to the player base is simply because the jove do not like outside contact lately, and do not share their technology. The easiest way to do this story wise is to simply say they sealed off their space. If it suddenly opens, that justification would be close to meaningless.
And as was said above, it is space we don't need. And I kind of like the mystery in life. A bit like the Soviet Iron Curtain in the Cold War. (The one after WWII in real life, not the current eve expansion) ------

Edited by: Ricdic on 25/10/2005 23:45:14 Hey guys, great things look to be coming on the horizon. My only question. Will us Tranquility players be able to use the Chinese Server? IE will it come up when we click the drop-down menu "sisi - tranquility-serenity", or will serenity somehow be disabled for us.
I also speak/read chinese, and would like to be able to pop onto serenity from time to time. If this is possible, will it be possible to train skills on both serenity and tranquility?
Thank you, and I hope this can be made available to us. I would understand if it wasnt, as then Asian players would come to our server, and set up their macro etc operations on Tranquility.
That is another question. On the chinese server, you are allowing the sale of in-game items for real cash (as far as the blog is concerned). Does this mean CCP will also allow macro mining and the like over there? It kinda seems like this chinese server is going to get its own EULA there (and it will be a lot smaller than ours).
Thanks in advance

To allow E-bay selling will ruin the game...I can't believe you are going to allow it and say it is "cultural".
People want cash and it has nothing to do with culture.
Please say this isn't true guys...
I don't think "English" E-Bay covers the Chinese mainland, and neither does Paypal. The Chinese mainland have their own online markets which you won't be able to read.
E-Bay has their own China-Asian market version (http://www.ebay.com.cn).
Looking at the English E-Bay and at the Eve-Online sellers there, I see a lot are based in the good old Canada, United Kingdom and the United States.
I checked Ebay China and typed Eve-Online on the search. A few items came up maybe about 10 to 20 lines or so, not like the 11 whole pages in the english Ebay right now. Most of the few EVE items selling in Ebay China now appears to come from someone in the United Kingdom.
With the seperation of Serenity and Tranquility, I don't think items are transferrable between the two. And if Serenity players want to do their ebay business, they would do it in Ebay China which you won't be able to read either.

Uh no that's rubbish. Im playing from Australia on *dial up*, I know people who play from China and Taiwan. Distance has nothing to do with it. EVE isn't a FPS, it's built to handle lag.
CCP says the problem is that most chinese cities have poor links to the outside world, but good links to the larger cities. Which is of course the result of the Chinese government trying to censor the internet.

OMG the RMR screen looks nice. Much beter name than Cold War too
However, I'll say it again - the can flagging WILL let me go out and kill 1-day n00bs. I'll do it to prove it's a grief tool, if necessary. (I'll reimburse the n00bs, yea, but..)
PS, still MUCH against armour plate and shield extender nerfs. Revert the plates to pre-boost the leave the extenders exactly as they are now (or revert HALF their boost). Armour plates were heavily used before - they were NOT broken. A speed nerf makes using them with a MWD suicidal thanks to the sig bloom (which is the same regardless of speed) and extenders are plain suicidal.

Eye for an Eye, interesting.
Pirates just had their lives get a lot more interesting.
Quote:
Eye for an Eye is a new system, which allows you to revenge the podding of your character if it happens under unlawful circumstances, such as in empire and not at war. You get a time limited contract, most likely a month, to revenge your death.
Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to make these 'contracts' tradeable? Single-copy items that give the bearer permission to attack/pod the offending charachter? This would make bounty hunting a possible buisness, hunting down targets with huge bounties by buying their contracts off of the people they kill. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the oth |

very good idea ie having those that attack u get a contract which can then be traded onto a bounty hunter screen. Would it be ship or pod kill however ?
as for the other idea the plates well i agree partly. Dont nerf em as much as u are going to
well as for theiving ore cans what about pirates that kill u - u drop a can with youre modules whoever picks that up then becomes an open target allowing players that get attacked at gates to hunt down that pirate perhaps when they are moving around in a shuttle and boom one time kill without concord involvement (sounds like a good idea)

When will player alliances be able to contest NPC sovereign space? For example in Outer Ring where ORE claims the whole region, even where it doesnt have stations.
|

sonofollo

[76]
we have 4 types of regions
High sec empire Low sec empire 0.0 unclaimed (alliances) for the PVP types Then 0.0 NPC for players who want access to 0.0 without having to be in an alliance - alliances still control those regions but there are pirate factions etc that need accomodating agents that need to be out there - then further out u have regions like delve that have 0.0 NPC stations and the remainin systems (most of em open for POS soverigenty etc)
I think that the game works well - perhaps adding more new systems across the above 4 spectrums (tie to events as empires explore new star systems) - this would be non jove however. New amarr settlements perhaps intaki find some new systems tie up stargates and set out to build stations and terrerforming for planetary populations ?

Utter nonsense. The only valid argument against this is that it provides an OOG advantage to those who have plenty of money in RL. However I even disagree with that as no-one seems to give a damn about the advantage those with plenty of time on their hands have over the average working gamer with an active life.

first off, i find it funny that ccp is not suewing over sales of mods/isk on ebay. it should be ilegal for ebay too even host ccp goods. i find this fishy on there part. seems like maybe some inside people are maybe cashing in on this. soon players wont beable too buy mods on eve but only on ebay if this keeps up. when this happends eve is finnished as a real game. true gammers realy hate this ebay ****. a game is not a job too make money off of as a gammer, its a form of relaxing and injoyment, but i would say not if it cost too much too lose anything then it just becoums a pain in the ass.
second, i would like too see new servers set up in china/canada/us with a fresh start but i bet we wont becuse alot of players would leave the euro servers just too be on a even playing ground again in eve. i miss the past for that with eve. this game is getting way out of wack now vs the old farts who can do most anything in the game vs others who are a long way off from doing the same. for the most part i have not been playing eve do too 75% of the time having too take on players who cant compet aginst the older players witch is what you have to do in order too live in 00 systems. its a sin realy..
ill be back too eve soon but for now im too bizy out west.. this game just takes too long too get anything done. its a game too play when you got alot of time with no life then you can play all you wont.
their will be players ****ting there paints when i get back too eve.. OffBeaT just keeps getting stronger & stronger he got nothing better too do for now. i wonder how many of them mOo players on my list will still be around then..

i am one of the stronger players in eve. this guy is over 2 years old. when i stand up for the weaker players its becose i dont wont too beable too kick there ass in secounds. i wont them too have a far fighting chance. in the old eve days befor your time that is how it was. newer players didnt need a billon skill points too stand there ground like today in eve. they could use real skill in the game and have enough lee-way too be enventive. it is the old farts who do the crying in eve becose they dont wont the weak too be crafty enough too win one maybe, so now we have it that newer players who befor could jam/tank and acutly hit somthing they where shoting at cant now well or they just cant put togather a good fighting ship anymore like the good old days. this is not a d&d game where you through the dice and what rolls up is your move. this game should be and stay a random game of skill where players have the ability of being crafty/inventive with the ability of choses.. this IS a game of skill is it not, or IS it a game of skills & only abilitys your points allow too do? i dont wont evryone too be the same. i do however wont them too compet well or be of use as a corp member of mine. i dont have a year for my corp too servive out here while i wait for these noobs too beable too stand. we would always go broke replaceing our ships/mods/anything. eve is getting too expencive for this **** too players and it mostly the 6 to 12 month players who have too swallo it.. sorry for my spelling dont got time too fix it up..
