Well I guess it has been decided, so be it...
1 large pos tower = 100mil?
1 Dread = 3-4bil (atm)
1 Dread takes 9HOURS of shooting IN seige mode to kill a large tower.
Takes 10mins to put up a pos, takes a few hours to move a dread from "home" to "enemy." followed by 9 hours of shooting. Now the way it stands atm is, If you manage to get a fleet of 10 dreads (this would take just under 1 hour to kill a large, unhardened, POS) With that you need a mixed fleet around to make sure no big old fleets warp in to open up on them. Now your looking at 50people + dreads. Followed by hours of boredom wiping out POS' in a system. Whilst wiping out these pos' you have to be putting up your own poses to claim soverignty to make sure they cant take station back.

I can't find this information in any of the other Fanfest posts so I'll post it here as it seems most relevant.
During the Q&A session with the Dev's they were asked about the current POS system and in particular POS wars.
There answer was quite simple, they agreed it was broken and they were looking to fix the system, hopefully in time for æred moon risingÆ. They hadn't agreed on the solution yet, but it would be something like this,
- Only Large POS counting towards sovereignty - POS sovereignty taking up to 72 hours to take effect - The base price of control towers increased
To reiterate, they did say they hadn't settled on a solution yet, however the most promising remark was they categorically agreed the current system wasn't balanced.

POS Anchoring Rank 1 100mil-1bil(your estimate) 6 hours
Titan Probably 6-9 months of skills that are yet unreleased just to fly it Costing anywhere from 1-5 billion. (T2 BCs are currently @ 400 million in the DB) 60 billion probably 1-3 months to build. Another 1 billion worth of fuel to move it around.
Hi can you see balance?
Edit2: People arent complaining that tempest can instapop frigs/ Poses can instapop BSes... if a bigger fish comes along the smaller fish just gets eaten.
Thats because frigs are easy to replace, a large pos investment is not.
Tell me this, if a titan can 1 shot a pos, whats the point in having small, med and large pos?
You think everyone can afford to build one and train for it? I think you should think about that one.......

Well the way I see it if it take about 3 shots of this weapon to kill a POS (and my guess would be the it would take a while to charge/reload those shots) then there might be time to get a fleet of battleships or even a dread or 2 to intercept the Titan before the POS was destroyed. Dont forget, nothing is unstoppable.

100 mill for a large tower, and takes 10 mins to setup?
What exactly are you describing, a jetisoned large pos in a can? Or an unanchored large tower at a moon or something?

I always got the impression titans were basically mobile stations, lots of facilities and a jump drive but no weapons, leaving the action to the dreads.

i think the main idea on titan weapons is they are directional. so really it will help make pvp more intresting in the way u fly your ship.
IE no orbiting into the beam weapon o doom. this imo will be nice as piloting skills are so underestimated atm. (ask siddy and his officer slaying munnin). Please resize your signature image, the filesize limit is 24,000 bytes - Imaran

perhaps the titan will be rather weak on warpout time/hp if you fit large guns and focus fire em might take it down..... nobody even knows hp on titans.
secondly you whine about omg my billion isk pos. what about 50 pilots spending 8 hours to get a pos into reinforced, waiting many more hours for reinforced to end and then another logon and and another hours to finish it?
you have no idea about the current balance is extremely in favor of poses. also if you want more protection, seek support from the alliance that claims your territory.
second point. welcome to eve, the great PvP land.... more like PvPos but yea
realistically dreads should be seriously buffed, and poses nerfed with regards to cheap sov claiming poses.
someone remind me what the role of the titan was in the first place? a mobile base? sorta like the death star..... and as i recall the deathstar had a REALLY big gun too.... so there goes your theory about titans not supposed to have guns. it is feasible to have a mobile base equiped with small guns, and one really large gun. and of course the player provided escort fleet.
imagine spending that billion isk on 1 small pos, and 2 large guns (which can cause bses problems if not rigidly organized) and then putting as many as you can. and doing it in a system someone else put an outpost. and doing it 40 minutes before downtime, and it being online and claiming sov right after downtime. 24 hr eh? imagine if that was your outpost. OMG OMGOMG let me whine about my 26 bil outpost that just got taken by a swarm of small poses. to the alliance that owns the outpost.... what are they supposed to do against RA tactics?
wake up and realize your tiny insignificant corner in the world is much smaller than the powerhouses banging around hundreds of poses. there NEEDS to be a counter to the pos spam tactics, but tbh i dont think it should be in the form of a titan, i think that is totally the wrong way to do it. i think dreads should be 4 times as powerful, and the reinforced mode should disable guns while the reinforced mode is ongoing. that and severly nerfing the time it takes to online a sov claiming pos so that there will be PvP while the pos is being onlined.
did it ever occur to you to join/set standings with them? it fairly easy to get standings set....
oh and i think the big gun will be next to useless against ships, whereas dreads are supposed to be able to be uber in combat. which they arent, but oh well.
A people should know when they are conquered. |

some peeps just jumping the gun
there carebears most of the peeps moaning about titans.
i think there be a little stronger than dreads and will have command skills, plus n able to jump a whole fleet to a destination, or get rid of jump fuel issues, that will be a great idea. i say titans will cost around 4-5 mill. they wnt create something ubber strong, dreds go dwn agasint 10 bs's, i say i titan will be the same but u loose more friends while doing it.
and for u carebears moaning about it, ur missing ur opointment with my guns

Jealousy - if I can't afford it, it shouldn't be ingame.
With a 99.999% probability I will never fly a titan. Do I want titans in with massive planet-killing super weapons? Hell, yeah. If the thing costs 50bn, it better come with some serious gadgets. I would also welcome the thought of one killing a POS with a single shot and a mail being sent to the owner saying, "wtfp00ned".
At the moment I am not involved in alliance warfare, so titans and their abilities don't really concern me. However, if I am fighting with the big groups in the future, at least I want to have the opportunity to try and take one down. I don't see a problem in my enemies having one, I look forward to it.
And please stop whining for nerfs before they're anywhere close to being finalised - they'll prolly enter TQ pre-nerfed to death anyway.. >_>

While I see the need for being bale to take POSses out qicly 8since it's a common tactic to dump 20 small POSses to a system to aquire soveirnity), I'm afraid that making a weapon that will onhe hit kill POSses would cause people to be flying around in them, vaporising every POS tehy see and preventing anybody not in the largest alliances ever getting a POS in low sec. In general CCP seems to concentrate way too much on the rich people. I mean, they'll just keep adding more and more uber powerfull ships thta cost billions and billions of ISK. They might add tier 3 BSs and teir 2 BCs if they have time, but those won't come out till Kali, while Titans are up for RMR. If 0.01% of EVE's popolation quit since they didn't gte a new shiny ship that's covered in gold and jewl and destroys entire solarsystems with 1 shot it doesn't matter much, but if 99% of EVE's players quit since the said rich griefers vaporised their corp HQ, POS and the stargate they were supposed to go through or prevented them from ever entering low sec, forcing them to mine Veld in 1.0, that's gonna cause serious damage to CCP's income.

You could waste 500 battleships trying to kill a titan before you start to lose money compared to what they are risking. Something that costs 500 battleships should have much more combat prowess than the puny titans with the power of maybe five battlehips that it seem so many call for.
Remember, this is EVE. The ability to field massive ordiance also comes with the abliity to lose it, and those flying titans are risking alot more than those flying against them.

I would imagine that a superweapon will need some kind of fuel to fire and is not going to have a rate of fire of a few minutes... this a SUPERweapon its something your fire at a single bs harrassing you, or fire to see how cool it looks. As if the logisitics of getting and maintaining a titan weren't already crazy enough i would imagine a superweapon will have its own ridiculous requirements, but even if any of this has been decided by the devs yet, I was not personally at fanfest so I go on what others who were say... and well they havent sa id much on superweapons at all yet :)

Its mainly the people who wont be able to afford the titans who are concerned they *might* be a weapon that can destroy everything they worked hard for without any effort on the titans part.

wait until we see the total specs of the Titans before complaining they are overpowered.
Perhaps Using the Super weapon drains all cap. So now it cannot fight, or tank whatsoever. If there is a small enemy group around, and you fire the main gun and kill a small POS, only to get your Titan popped because it ran outta cap, it won;t be worth it.
Of course, you should have to actually show up and defend your POS. But that is the way it should always be, a POS, without backup combat pilots, should always die to an attacking gang.

Personally I cant wait to see these things in game. Hopefully when ccp bring planets into eve properly (planet based industry etc etc you'll be able to use them for planetry bombardment
CCP arent stupid people.. they know that if they give people the possibility of taking out random pos's at a whim with these things people will do it for a laugh. There will be some restraining factor with them like fuel for a super weapon or similar.
Possibly large ammounts or megacyte or something similar. Perhaps there will even be a new item like "super weapon fuel" which is hard to make.
While we dont know for sure i have faith that ccp will do the right thing. They must be usable but not able to go on a rampage with killing everything for the hell of it, at least not without significant logistical support.

Considering the story about Titans speaks of having to completely mine a moon of all materials, and it taking YEARS to build one, a Titan better take MONTHS to build with level 5 construction skills. No day-week build BS, you want a portable death-star, you sit in your POS for a month or 3.
Also, how the hell do you build a Titan *IN* a POS? Won't the Titan be several times LARGER?
Would be pretty badass to fly to a POS, and see the titan being built outside, but then you'd have people popping it while in the works. I'm not really liking the 'win' button it will have though.

IŠm actually pretty sad theyŠve changed the industrial-pvp-titan (flying station, perhaps factories and refining as well as a dockable object) into a bigger-dread.
I really hope that thereŠs more to come, that they are not telling yet. Otherwise it will just be a bigger ship with bigger guns, which is, tbh, not very innovative.

Anyways, on topic - when reading through the complete thread it seems to me 2 issues are getting mixed up:
a) POSs which are used for resource gathering (with the owners not having them put up for system sovereignity)
b) POSs put up to claim system sovereignity
The b) POSs cause problems atm, cause they are quick to put up but hard to kill. So a superweapon might seem handy...
The a) POSs wouldnt cause any probs if there was a way to disconnect system sov. gain from putting up a POS which is only meant to gather resources. Correct me If i am wrong but isnt this automatically connected (If its the only POS in that system)?

Why are Titans getting a "super weapon" in the first place???
It has been stated for YEARS that Titans were NOT going to be warships. Thats why we got Dreads. Thats why we are going to have Carriers!
Titans have been told to us by CCP for AGES that they were Flag ships. Ships that would be used for mobil manufacturing. Mobil processing and the likes. And now, all of a sudden they will BE warships and have the most powerful weapon in the game?? I mean really, WTF CCP?

Titans have been told to us by CCP for AGES that they were Flag ships. Ships that would be used for mobil manufacturing. Mobil processing and the likes. And now, all of a sudden they will BE warships and have the most powerful weapon in the game?? I mean really, WTF CCP?

Who said they changed them? Titans are a hybrid of every other capital ship, in a much stronger carapace of armor. That means it still gets station services, ability to dock, and functions as a nice forward base in invasions, which is afaik their role.. mobile station. You can be an industrialist and still get giddy over the prospect of owning one. Park in system A, strip it clean of Ark, move to system B. Much nicer than an outpost, no?
In reality, 99% of the time they'll be used as a station and not as a pos pwn platform.. since despite mass delusions, Dreads perform that task relatively well.
Its not innovative to give it guns, but it is innovative to at least try and make it practical. You decide:
POS + Defense + Services + Security = 500mil
Titan + Services + Mobility - Defense = 30-60bil?
Nobody is going to trade in defense for mobility AND pay a huge bill. This way, you're not trading in anything, you're buying that extra bit for exorbitant prices.

I'm thinking that the super weapons sound like an effort to make the TItan feasible as an assault platform.
Meaning that they can bring a fleet in, and deploy it. With the Superweapon existing to give the fleet a chance against the enemy who probably noticed the cyno field.
IMHO I think they should move titans to Kali and move Tier 3 battleships to RMR.
Frankly We have enough super high end only 1% of the playerbase will ever even see it content coming wiht motherships and carriers. We could use more tech one ships.
*snip* That's not very appropriate. - Teblin |

Titans are insanly expensive thus should be able to do amazing things if it couldnt kill a large POS i would be dissapointed, so either your saying it should take many many hours (just drawing out the game) or die to large POS just like everything else atm. POS are overpowered small pos especially if you accidently warp to one your bs is instant killed that isnt right considering the pos is somtimes cheaper then the friggin bs.
The fact is it wont be the end of pos since moving a titan around is no easy job and theres nothing to stop a fleet from defending the POS and killing the Titan. There should be ways to counter a Titan pos shouldnt be one of them. Oh and drop the whole greifers and [5] chat its simply annoying a greifer is somone who kills you repeatedly and is willing to chase you great distances to make your life difficult not somone who just kills anything they can find in 0.0.

Hmm. I bet this superweapon will take some time to fire. Maybe like in order to use it you need to direct all the power to it, making your ship defenceless and wait for half an hour. That way a single Titan couldn't go around vaporising everyhting, but it would need a fleet to keep it safe while it's charging the weapon. It would still destroy POSses way quiker than it would normally take, but it's unlikely people would just go around blowing up every single POS since a soloitary Titan charging it's deathray would be an easy target for the POS defenders

If I had to guess I'd say it was the gallante carrier. We already know what titans look like, but no info on carriers yet. The gal carrier would be my guess on that pic as it follows the roundy jello mold / lumpy design some of thier ships have.

I think the superweapon would cost huge amount of money just to fire, maybe in the range of 500mil - 1bil per shot, (maybe too much or too little). In either case it will make the use of them more tactical rather than "wtfpwn anything anytime all the time" weapon.
Or perhaps make the Titian sacrafice their shield and armor when firing them, so they only have 0 resist hull left for a certain period of time. This way if you decide to 1 shot pwn that POS you better be prepared to lose your 60bil titan because it could be taken down by just a few battleships. It will also make people plan more when using them, and perhaps, set up up ambush to sacrafice a 1bil pos inorder to kill that 60bil titan.
I would love to see a video of them blowing up though, and the video of the pilot's face at the moment of destruction

Titan with a super weapon!?!?
helllll no. It should definately not have any modules or point offensive weapons of any sort. Simply defensive one's and quite a few too. Its main offensiveness should be logistically by supporting a nuts load of ships and fear.
Ok some titans will vary from others. Eg stated in the titans entry (btw, more of these lil tidbits of Eve universe are winners with pretty much all fans, north or south and (omg) even emp i think we can agree ) So caldari titan being smaller will hold a smaller fleet however has more guns so in that case give it 3 dreadie guns to kill POSs in 2 hours not 9!
but nothing should be more effective bang for buck than specialised ships. E.g. dread should stick with blowin up POSes, Carriers stick with the drones (after lag fix) and Titans should stick with bein logistical bonanzas for the big boys.

Titans still require some balancing before they are releaced with Red Moon Rising, but it has already been stated by Oveur at the FanFest that Titans will not be able to one-shot player owned stations. If I recall correctly, this was one of the questions asked during the panel discussion after Oveur's presentation, or during YARRBQ itself.
pwned by Seleene a couple posts earlier. I suppose that is what I get for not reading through the replies before posting.
*cough cough* un-nerf dreads *cough* Do this before we get titans. Let's get balance up the food chain before expanding the food chain.

well in terms of balancing a frieghter full of ice to power this superweapon would be a fair tradeoff (to power up the superweapon) perhaps requiring 100-200m of ICE products to shoot it up (would give the allaiance with it high running costs to use it in uber combat) sounds like it would be a fair tradeoff.

Edited by: Zungen on 25/10/2005 22:07:00 why shouldnt they not get some sort of weapon to match guns on a pos or something? afterall their mobile stations and should have the hp of a pos or a station but the ability to tank all those millions of hp with a titan armor reper :P
if its a mobile station or pos or whatever you want to call then it should have some sort of pos size weapons
the weapon looks like it can blow up your fleet and the enemy fleet at the same time :P obviously something with a 30min duration time and a large sum of cap if titans are even going to have cap or just use fuel for a secondary way of using cap :P

Looking at the Caldari dread with raven... aside form it seeming to be rather small for a ship that takes decades to build, I couldn't help but notice the giant hole.. that made me realize something...
THE CALDARI SUPERWEAPON IS GOING TO BE A DREADNOUGHT SIZED MISSILE!!1!!ONE1ELEVEN!

I can see it now.
Your Dreadnaught-filled-with-Antimatter hits POS, doing 0.0001 damage.
On a more serious noteI hope these things are **HUGE**, as in, a dread is an ISD, and a Titan is a SSD. Something costing 30-50x as much to build as a dread, and taking decades (hopefully atleast months in EVE-time) to build needs to be excessively large.

i myself dont like too see super weapons in the game. if this game is just gona come down too over huge ships messing around with weaker corps or busting up smaller alliances who only have BS too stand up too them i would say the game is starting too get to stupit too take for real. 6 bs should be able too take down one dread solo. if they cant then we are gona see the end of corps who cant come out of empire. i think soon with all these super ships i dont think it will be worth forming corps but rather players just soloing it togater as a click soporting each other. i myself am almost now too the point of thinking too form a secret click of players rather then a liget corp that evryone can see as plane as day. there are too few players in this game now that are super strong and too rich. lets try not too make anymore eve gods here... ok!

I say yes to this. Three shots, long cooldown time/energy use, plus the fact that wherever it appears it would probably be pounded by weapons of all types from all ships...quite a bombardment.
Titans should be just liks Stations, just able to move at a snail's pace and with a slow to aim, difficult-to-operate, but powerful as hell gun. Maybe make it so that it has to be aimed manually...?
Not to mention it'd look awesome in a video...interceptors soaring along the sides of the ship with cruisers attacking the enemy fleet /pouring out of the Titan, dreads and bses blasting away at it, bullets and lasers and stuff everywhere, etc. I'd journey out into a war i have no place in just to watch it all happen. :)

As I recall hearing didnt they say they were making a special gui just for titans with more then 8 slots. was quite some time ago. And if you guys read the backstory about the jovian amarr war the jovian mothership obliterates the amarr fleet with its super weapon good read actually. Will be interesting to see how things unfold as weve all seen dreadnoughts arent indestructable so I highly doubt titans will be without proper fleet support.

Yes but the joves are absurdly advanced compared to even the Caldari.
Oh and let's not forget the ENTIRE JOVE EMPIRE only has *3* Titans.
Honestly, if these are such monsterous ships that take a moon worth of material and decades to build, how practical will it be to have them in EVE? They're so powerful that if a corp/alliance built 1 or 2, they would pose a serious threat to one of the empires.

dunno if titan has 10mil or 20million hp, it will take quote a lot of firepower to chop through 20 million hp
and I hope they dont have cap and instead use fuel as their cap, and if its a mobile station they wont die right now, I would think a titan could go into reinforced mode a short period to save the titan before it explodes
something costing 60bil, it should have some sort of reinforced mode or last ditch option before actually dying

It's going to be industrial entities. Even if a Full on PvP entity could get one...they certainly couldn't operate it indefinately on a whim.
PvP alliances will actually probably have the most, as they will have the cash to simply buy them. The Five has a ton of dreadnaughts, but we never see them because a) not everyone has the skills to fly these to their maximum potential and b) they are seriously overly-nerfed.

Originally by: hired goon In EON, the dev says they may present the option to put a defensive nipple instead of an offensive superweapon on a titan - like say a POS shield.
Was anything similar to this discussed at the fest?
I know, I know its childish...
But they are starting to sound more appealing now

I know the way to defeat the superweapon.... Fly an interceptor into the turret just as its about to fire and Boom goes the titan

Edited by: Embattle on 28/10/2005 23:08:33 I read about Titans too........when I read the manual after buying the game on release, I'm fairly sure I was on the loo at the time since I only tend to read any game manual when not playing the actual game ----------- I would have a sig but it might break a arm, leg or even worse a rule. |

You're lucky that ship is called the "USS MOTHERFUNYAR" ;). Funny stuff. Oh, and what is Oveur shouting there? I could have sworn it was "Mecara Beam!".

Yes, you'd almost misread it for something inappropriate yet strangely appropriate for a ship with such an obnoxious large uncut super weapon. Oveur's screaming "CUZ IM EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEME" which is my take on what his motivation was to turn a previous indicated industrial/logistic ship into a Power Rangers-mobile. Btw I have no idea if it was actually Oveur who thought that up but since I see his name everywhere I just put it in there.

A POS owner looks out the window and sees a Titan, soils himself...
Then he remembers that they all got a Titan as well - send out the Titans! One shot, bang goes the attacking Titan.... hehe ----------------

Will it have a small thermal exhaust port? Preferably right below the main port?
If not...needs a pre-nerf.

At the cost of cinematic value I'll put in subtitles in my next works.
Oh and now I've been hearing rumors about Titans being able to use this system from many au's away. Rumors right?

Does it really matter if a super corp gets the deathstar? in the end the big corps with there deathstars are going to face off and that will be that, or if that doesnt happen swarm the beast under with frigets. i like to see a titan live though that and even if the attack and the titan fails the ship will be damged and open to another attack. and if you think a ship that size can be repaired quickly, think again.

lol. You can't see past your own flawed argument.
20 dreads can kill a titan pretty easy. What is the problem. If you dont call in a fleet to take out the titan that's your fault.
