Originally by: DigitalCommunist Instas are more or less my greatest gripe with EVE. It takes fundamental things like travel times, ship speed, safety, gate blockading, and screws with them until theres no common sense to be found.
People have become so dependent on the security and convenience these things provide, they refuse to see the potential of the game without them. All they see is more boring travel, and more death to gankers. Some lunatics even go as far as to proclaim the end of the universe.
In short they make the game too easy. They kill the importance of teamwork, intelligence, survival, and logistics. In a multiplayer game, thats life and blood. It would bring such immense joy to me, if one day I woke up and instas were gone. Poof. You can no longer land closer than 15k from the gate.
Would there be mass panic? Maybe. Would there be mass whining? Hell yes. Would there be people quitting? Sure. Would everyone be on the same playing field? Yep. Would the game be more fun? Definitely.
I've held out through all the testing, instability, lag, bugs and broken features. I've had to put up with flavour of the month balancing, duping, cheating, and exploiting. I've even done my fair share of promoting this game, saying nice things about it, assuring people CCP knew what they were doing, submitting bug reports where I could. I bought a second account when I swore I never would, just because I wanted to experience all parts of EVE.
But what I will not do, is believe for even a second that I'm having as much fun as I could be, and that all the big new capital ships, cosmos content and skills could substitute for this glaring flaw in EVE.
FYI, they don't provide neither the security, nor the conveniance for anything much larger than say a cruiser. Why? Alignment time, Agility and Warp Bubbles. DC, plz, read these 4 magic words until you finally begin to comprehend why instas are not a problem. They are a server issue, yes, which gives us a way to limit their amount in each player's folders with a hard reason.
What you want to make from EVE is increase travel times from 1.5 up to 4 times depending on the class of ship, while also making them utterly defenseless. You want to reduce all the big corp logistics down to an equivalent of a FULL-TIME JOB. Read the magic word as needed again plz. You want to remove the ability of small corps to get together on occasionm to go PvP/pirate or whatever activity it is they choose. Maybe in your imagination people have 2 hours a day to spend on nothing, but that's not the case for the majority of people (yes, i said on nothing. It's TRAVEL in a GAME, so it doesn't benefit you in ANY way).

Really? Well your first 3 answers make the answer to the last one completely obvious, and opposite of what you have written. The game WOULDN'T be more fun. Same playing field? So instead of solving the problem, lets throw everyone down a cesspit? But hey, as long as everyone is on the same level...

Think again. No, they dont. Are you saying that right now all of those things are unimportant? Well, removing instas would require an immense increase in workforce to do simple tasks, which you listed....Survival, logistics, etc. What kills intelligence is actually safespots and local, not instas.

Well, why dont you start with yourself? Delete all your instas and play eve as our example. --------------- VIP member of the [23] Sadist - harsh to the idiots, kind to the smart |
