I started experimenting with probes some over the weekend. I have to say... it was way more complex than what I was expecting.
To be honest, I was thinking the way it worked was to just drop a probe in a roid belt, warp out, turn on the system scanner and wait for a target. Not the case.
Turns out, probes require triangulation and calculating to work. Even once you figure that out its a tricky process or atleast it was for me and very time consuming on top of not being very accurate (target deviation + - 1.0 au)
Seems to me this whole process could be simplified some as in its current state, I dont see the benefit of using these.
Anyone mastered this craft?

Edited by: HippoKing on 31/10/2005 20:39:08 get your target with 3 AU on scanner uncloak drop 3 probes on top of each other recloak hit scan select type to scan for scan wait select signature warp get to warp-in point call the blob
not that hard i got it right first time
edit: something i forgot to mention. i read the guide on how to use them before i tried --

Seems to me it doesn't need to be.

You haven't tried very hard, then.

I have to ask has anyone got 12AU probes to work? I don't know anyone first hand who has. 3AU yes but 12AU no, I even had targets move and stay where I no they could be found.
If anyone has could you please post how you have had success with them, what you do in oder to make them successful.
Thanks Hans

I'll get right on that. Meanwhile, you go read the section in the player guide devoted to scan probes.

scan with 3 12AU probes warp to the point drop a new 3AU probe scan with 2 nearest 12AUs and the 3AU warp to point drop a new 3 AU scan with nearest 12AU and the 3AUs warp to point drop a new 3 AU scan with all 3AU probes warp blob --

All this is a load of bollox.
As long as Scan Probes still show up on the scanner any half-decent player wont ever be caught with them. And using 12 AUs is a waste of time.
Manual scanning > Probes.

It is becoming clear to me why everyone considers these forums to be a joke.
This is a prime example of the quality feeback that you get here.

imagine that, You actually have to do some triangulations, But nooooo, Hey lets just make it "PRES BUTAN" And POOF, theres the guys safespot. Hey why dont you ask them to make it even simpler, and have the probes automatically fly over there and blow up their ship for you. itll save you time pointing and clicking.

she has a point though. it does make them more interesting, and i'd rather not just have instant no-thought buttons to press. --

Actually, you have to be within 1.5 au, as the 3au refers to the diameter, not the radius
