This is Monkey Trader, squadron leader of the 126th Special Operation Command Monkeys (SOCM)
Yeah well I just want to say that all the monkeys deserve some free SP eh ?
Well, I had a blast playing through all the old epic Command and Conquer games (in frikkin German !!! Because although I am not German, I am forced to download this game in German due to region code and all that crap). Yes, me an Expat, stuck in Germany! I had to listen the whole time the following:
"Infantry Bot reporting" and "Kill Nod Bots" and "Defend GDI Infantry Bot convoy" because back then in Germany, games were not allowed to have human beings in it if they were war games or something and all had to be replaced by robots, bots, cyborgs and all that stuff.
Anyway, I want at least 500 000 SP. Thanks in advance |

I don't want free Sp. my training time did not stop. at least i don't think it did? I never really checked.
What I am upset about is missing out on a full weekend of ICE mining, my last chance to stock up before ICE becomes scarce.
That can not be compensated by skill points. I lost a lot of isk this weekend. i would have had 2500-3000 more blocks of ICE in my hanger had this not happened. |

I agree with Bugsy. I am disappointed about losing out on the mining. I am not looking for free anything. I am glad that the server is back up, and things are working again. It gave me a chance to get a few things done that I would not have done otherwise.
I hope CCP can punish the people involed with this though. "Please stop reopening silly rumor threads."-á CCP Navigator. |

I planned to log in at 4:00pm GMT-0 Sunday to pause my skill training and inject electronic warfare drone interfacing. Fortunately I had repair drone operation 5 in the queue just as a fail safe in case anything bad happened (I always have my skill queue ending with a long skill). I was the first site on a four site expedition (got an escalation off of an anomaly). Journal is empty now.
Can't say how much ISK I am out of on that one given that drops are random, but still could have been a decent sum.
Not upset and I really don't think they have to compensate us. Eve suffers catastrophic equipment failures like this very rarely. The track record across ten years has been very good. |

Yeah, I'm really not concerned. Don't take me wrong, I wouldn't be angry if they decide to hand out SP or something, but I'm not demanding it, or anything else. Stuff happens. |

Some people do make unreasonable demands , but it is true - people are rushing on ICE because its heard it will become more rare.
People are running idle skill ques during downtime and so a repatriation of 100K SP is REASONABLE.

any compensation would be a bad idea on ccps part. this was a attack by someone. and by giving compensation for this attack what would stop people from orchestrating a attack every time they feel they want free sp. just be glad ccp took the servers offline protected our personal information. and fixed the problem in a pretty timely manor.

Amazing how many people simply don't bother reading.......
03.06.2013 03:41 By CCP Spielmann
At 02:05 UTC June 2nd, CCP became aware of a significant and sustained distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS) against the Tranquility cluster (which houses EVE Online and DUST 514) and web servers.
Our policy in such cases is to mobilize a taskforce of internal and external experts to evaluate the situation. At 03:07 UTC, that group concluded that our best course of action was to go completely offline while we put in place mitigation plans.
While we initially reopened EVE Online and DUST 514, at 14:51 UTC we became aware of additional information that led us to re-evaluate our decision. With the highest sense of precaution we took the decision to take Tranquility and associated websites back down for further investigation and an exhaustive scan of our entire infrastructure.
What we can now confirm is that a person was able to utilize a vulnerability in one of the back-end services that support the operation of the Tranquility server. This vulnerability has now been secured and thoroughly tested.
We would like to stress that at no time was customer data compromised or accessible in any way.
The effort of returning the complex server structure of the EVE Universe and associated websites to service in a methodical and highly-scrutinized fashion began hours ago and Tranquility has now been brought online (at 10:13 UTC). Our teams will monitor the situation carefully in the coming hours to ensure that our services are accessible and that all customer data remains secure.
We will be looking at ways to compensate players in both EVE and DUST for the outage and expect to announce what that compensation will be very soon.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our players on EVE Online and DUST 514 for their patience and understanding during this unexpected downtime and the investigation. We are grateful for your support, as always.

Wow...
People just don't care anymore, and are starting to act like a herd.
What would be of CCP if everyone switched games. If they worked an all nighter... well good for them, im sure they will be payed extra, everytime i work extra hours im payed, even more actually.
You guys say thank you and yet you were the ones that got screwed.
People who have a "life" can only play on their day off's, and for most of us is Sunday, hell, i havent played for long, but during the week im only able to play 1hour or so, if im not tired. I payed almost 20 euros to play on four weekends, the first one wasnt that great because i had to go to work on saturday. And sunday i wasnt able to play at all.
I feel sad for our society these days...

So. Much. Rage.
Your situation more-or-less matches mine. But you know what was going on whilst you were having a self-pity party? The folks at CCP were losing their weekend plans entirely whilst busting their collective backsides making damn sure we didn't *really* get screwed - by things like loss of personal data, financial information, or account information. They busted their humps around the clock making sure that they protected our trust against a deliberate and determined attack.
I can't see how they owe us any more than they gave. You want compensation? Find out who launched the attack, and apply to them. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Really not fussed at all about "compensation". I could understand getting annoyed about it if you count the pennies and want that +1/30th of value out of your subs, or had just ejected from your Titan and have forgotten where you left it. Otherwise, bleh. |

CCP disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation the warranties of merchantability, fitness for particular purpose and non-infringement. Seems like the more fitting parts today.
In short, they owe us nothing and if they ever compensate us for this downtime, it should be considered as a bonus and not something we rightfully deserve. |

You're comparing yourself, the customer, letting your own skill queues stop as a result of your fault, to a company that is being paid to provide a service. The company failed in that regard. In the real world, when companies don't live up to their obligations, they often do things to compensate their customers. But the analogy with your sister is not applicable and totally irrelevant.
A better analogy would be if you were late boarding an airplane and the plane left without you. You would not be compensated, most likely. However, that is wholly different to the airline being unable to fly ALL the passengers somewhere for some reason. In the second case, you would of course be compensated for your troubles and missed flight.
Of course Eve is a game, but the principle that the company failed to provide something stands. I personally am of the opinion, and would like to see, some sp for the time I missed out on training yesterday.

I can't see how they owe us any more than they gave. You want compensation? Find out who launched the attack, and apply to them. Also, this is THEIR JOB. They are PAID TO DO THIS. They weren't volunteering or sacrificing their time to help out a friend. They get paid to make sure the servers function. There was a huge outage yesterday, yes caused by an outside agent, but nonetheless the employees at CCP know that they work for CCP doing what they do. They are experts at it. Any expert at any company knows that he or she will be called at some point to sacrifice their time for work (as late night overtime, weekend work, etc.). CCP is no different. Stop painting it out like they were doing some favor. Work != favors. |
