Yeah, doesn't really give the impression that you are moving through a wormhole. I love that they did something, but it just doesn't hit the same spot as the Kspace stargates.

I actually really like the subtle transition as opposed to the jagged jump that the stargate does right the beginning of its animation. That said I think the stargate is appropriate to the lore behind how it works.
I do wish the outer corona of the wormhole would disappear more quickly to increase the immersion feel of it though. As it is now you get the gentle pulsing "in" effect, but that outer circle holds on way too long.

Come to think of it the animation with what looks like solar flares coming off looks much better than the current wormhole graphics. I guess it would be too taxing for peoples PCs? |

The new animation is okay, but i would like to have more effects. I mean, its a wormhole. It's supposed to do flickery lights, sparks, distortions, that kind of stuff. also would be funny if your ship would wobble around with his scale while jumping, being pressed together, or getting even longer, wobbly wibbly thingy, you know. |

Yeah i really hate it, i think it was really lazy of CCP to add such an uninspired thing like this to the game. All it is, is a zoom in and zoom out of the old wormhole effect. They should have just kept is the way it was and just added some lightening effects or something, if they couldn't be bothered doing a good job.
The WH jump sound is okay but it goes on for too long especially when you have 20 ships jumping through like we often do. This will get old fast. Is my bitter vet membership card in the mail? |

I logged out in hisec for the patch, just in case the skill changes required me to have a new clone. So I saw the gate animations before the wormhole animations. After first seeing the stargate animations, entering and leaving wormholes is underwhelming. I like that they are trying something, but I hope they keep working on it.
No one really knows what traveling through a wormhole would be like, so they have a wide-open list of choices. I think personally that I'd still like to get the feeling of traveling, so some sort of motion would be nice; maybe a roller-coaster tube or something, distinguishing itself from the stick-straight path used by stargates, with a bunch of distorted and elongated stars. But whatever they do, it would be awesome to have a little more than Dune's "Folding Space" form of travel.
My biggest issue with the new animations, however, is that transitions take longer than they did before. The overview seems to be populated and ready before the rest of the visuals are updated, so some of this is perhaps just perception. But overall, it seems slower for me. Other corp members have echoed this sentiment as well.

I believe they've said this is a placeholder until they get more time to work on it. As with most WH iterations, I'm sure you'll get used to this one in the next few years.
With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I think the k-space ones are nicer though, the cyno one feels like it rips a hole through space, the gate one is like a trafic tunnel(maybe they should add other ships in it also) but thew-space one is even harder to disribe. Maybe the should add a 180 camera turn, like your falling trough a mirror or some other camera+effect making it look more like a pebble droping in a pool of water. |

It would be kind of cool (tho not sure if it would potentially spoil things intel wise) if wormhole collapses were a bit more dramatic and had some effect system wide even if its just a bit of a rumble and flash in the skybox (if you not on grid).

I really hate being yanked out of whatever view/angle I am in and force zoomed in on the wormhole so I am going to have to go with the "hate it" group.
If there is a way to turn this off however plz someone tell me and then I am totally ok with it. |

Yeah it seems like it takes longer to load the grid than before.
That said, after running 20 jumps on the stargate animation in a covert ops (so about 20-30 second warps) if you get motion sickness at all, that stargate effect gets old FAST. That initial jerk at the beginning throws me off a bit. That's probably WHY I mentioned earlier that I like the gentle transition of the wormholes lol.

I think the new wh sounds/jump effect is ok in general, but I really dislike how it forces your camera to stay zoomed in. Before, for a few seconds after jumping we had the ability to zoom out to see if others had jumped, or if we had been cross-jumped. That intel's gone now |

I like the transition. I also like the jump gate transition, but I appreciate that the wormhole animation is more subtle. And I was happy that there is one at all, last time I tested on Sisi there was no animation at all, just a zoom-in on the hole.
I also like the new sound. I disliked virtually every new sound they indroduced with Retribution (or was it Inferno?), but this time the new sounds are mostly very good. . |

Had the speakers turned up when I entered a WH yesterday. Scared the crap out of my gf so I think the new audio is working. As for the animation, I think its just fine. Was hoping for something along the lines of 2001 but that's a bit much. |

As i wasnt expecting anything, i think its good. I prefer it to a loading bar, they just break immersion, but yes they could have put more work in and i do believe they said they will be working on it more at fanfest iirc. |

Wormholes have had nothing for years so the least CCP could of done would have been to give us a cool wormhole animation akin to the staregate one. This is just a cheap 'zoom in and leave you feeling disorientated' sequence.
Push for better and do away with is 'it will do' attitude! |

You have to admit Nathan that the difference between stargate and wormhole animations, and the fact that WH jump came very late on the test server, clearly shows that they didn't put the same amount of work in both animations.
I recognize to be part of the kind of people who probably remain unsatisfied too much, I also recognize that the current new version is clean, smooth, and that thanks to the audio team the jump itself is more in-line with the whole wormhole thing.
However, I still believe that, as stargates creates a wormhole tunnel between two points, we should have the same kind of animation for actual wormhole jumps. Or something that would make me shiver when I watch my own battle videos or other battle videos with good music and wormhole jumps involved... Epicness, if you prefer :p G££ <= Me |

Btw, you know how if you jump right after the "Crushing ship" jumps you get the "traffic will clear you..." message?
Yeah, if you try to jump after the crushing ship now, your camera wigs out and won't stop looking at the wormhole, even though the wormhole is gone. I had to relog to fix it.

It really comes down to a matter of taste. I personally find the the high-sec animations are too in-your-face and get old very fast, like an MTV show that needs to change topics every 20 seconds to keep its viewership interested. I honestly prefer the current downplayed wormhole animations, though the autofocus-on-wormhole can be rather annoying. Maintaining camera position while having the scenery quietly warp around you would be preferable, in my opinion. http://www.TalocanUnited.com |

Agreed, I like the animation but I dislike the camera changing position. Unlike stargates their is not "Front" to the Wormhole. Why does the camera have to move around? BTW on low-shader quality settings the animation is totally broken. The Wormholes are the wrong color on low-quality settings and when you actually jump the wormhole suddenly changes to the correct color, you jump through it, look back at the hole you just came from and then it changes to the wrong color again. Completely breaks the "traveling" through effect.

Maybe two dozen people posted to state their opposition to this change, with also a few in favor of it. Experience says that people who like something are far less likely to post about it, so it is proven that the new effect is extremely popular with the players . |

The "effect" is nothign i couldnt recreate with my mousewheel.
For some mysterious reson it never occured to me to zoom in before jumping, and zoom out some time after jumping ever before.
Probably because you lose all orientation vor 3-5 seconds. Its just another of heese last second, "oh yeah we kinda forgot about the wh guys again" boons. Most last second boons are ****, this one too. |
