This is ridiculous, it's months since Odyssey came out, 1.1 is due next week and STILL NO FIX.
It works in Wine on the mac (but Wine is much harder to setup for non-techies)
But the point is, if it works in Wine, it shouldn't be that hard for TransGaming to figure out what changed in their code - at least not 2 months worth of waiting and only 1 dev comment in that time.
But we all know why - cos CCP don't give a crap about Mac, it's such a small market share why would they?
I predict the end of a supported Mac client in the same way the Linux client disappeared - it all just seems to hard for them for not enough return. |

I had spheres yesterday, they're gone again today...
*sigh*
As previously mentioned, they work fine under WINE - no dice under Cider. |

I got bored of waiting.
Download MacPorts, install wine-devel, install Eve Online Windows version
Winning...
Frame rate is better, works flawlessly (except CQ, but who cares about that anyway?) and launcher doesn't display graphics properly, but does let you log in and patch properly.
And apparently there's some big performance changes coming to D3D in Wine soon which will make it run even better hopefully (unless it breaks it totally - lol).
Anyway, I can see scanning spheres properly under Wine and the performance is better. Bye Mac Client, it wasn't nice knowing you :) |

Didn't work for me - though I only visited 2 anoms and was cloaked at the time...
I'll try without cloak perhaps - how long do you think I need to stay there? |

I suspect CCP are hoping the problem just disappears with Mavericks - since it's not on 10.7 they're viewing it as an Apple problem...
Which is incorrect approach, since Wine works.
But when other companies are starting to step up to Mac gaming CCP proves again it's not interested in actively supporting Macs. Happy to take our subs though. |

From the patch notes;
FIXES Numerous client defects have been fixed in this release, making New Eden a better place for everyone.
Yeah, so long as by 'everyone' you don't include Mac users who use exploration - no spheres still.
But I suppose it's OK, cos I can at least get a luxury 'T-Shirt'.... /sarcasm |

Looks like Mavericks fixes the sphere's not showing.
Also gives a marginally improved framerate with one client running, and significant improvements when multiple clients are running (though the client that does not have focus is significantly reduced - but I kinda don't mind that, since I'd prefer good speed on the one I am presently interacting with).
Anyway, Mavericks installed on my MBP Mid 2009, working like a charm - and a couple of degrees cooler too |
