Edited by: Clementina on 09/11/2005 06:18:04 Actually now a serious question. Why do gamers allow themselves to be abused like this? SOE makes a game, then makes an expansion, then right after they sell the expansion, they change the game completely, apparently on the word of some focus group. Furthermore they seem to have a history of doing this, changing the game to approximate whatever is selling well at that moment.
Why do people continue to shell out money every month, to be abused? It just don't make sense.

I'll keep it simple:
BECAUSE THEY ARE RETARDED.
I've read at least 300 posts on their forums about this latest shenanigan "upgrade" where the poster has claimed that they didn't know it was coming out and they just started working on it and they refuse to believe the part where SOE has been working on this for nearly a year. I've also seen more than enough "Well, they may ruin this game but I'm staying till they pull the plug!" threads as well... Also, when you think about it, if they HAVE spent all that time and money getting this far, it'd be pretty hard to say "OH WELL! Guess that won't work anymore." --------
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code. |

I quit SWG last Friday (11-4) by cancelling 3 accounts that started at release. AND Im glad I found EVE to replace it though now I wish I had found it before I found SWG.
The changes are horrible IMO and take away everything that made SWG unique in the MMORPG genre as well as what made it fun.

Found Eve about a month ago from EQ2 and SWG, and words cannot do justice to just how happy I am about it. SWG really had a few good things going for it. I loved the complex mining and crafting systems, as well as the vending system. It was nice to finally see a game where you could craft items and didn't have to be at keyboard the entire time with an icy hot sleeve around your wrist feeling the burn. (EQ2 Anyone?) I loved factories and harvesters.
Eve has all of this and more. I'll be here for quite some time.
The bait and switch with the expansion is beyond bad though. Words escape me.

Planetside was great fun in beta and early release, but since Core Combat it's gone down the tubes. There used to be epic battles with hundreds of players fighting over a base, huge empire wide raids where 100+ players left the sanctuary in a massive armor column and rolled over the enemy...
Then they released Core Combat, complete with (at the time) omgwtfyarrbq weapons and some of the most ridiculously tedious map designs I've ever seen. In the last 4 months I haven't seen a single good cave battle, because masochists seem to be few and far between. Then they released the BFR's, which were again omgwtfyarrbq machines, not to mention the absurd flight variants that move as fast as tanks and can fly to safety once every 10 seconds. Couple this with mostly moronic CR5's who keep splitting forces because they can't decide on a common target and the new "rabbit ball" event that's effectively a "We Win" button for any given continent (even if that continent has been faught over for the last 5 hours), the game is nowhere near as good as it used to be.
I imagine SWG will suffer the same fate. I still dispise SOE for making one of my favorite games of all time, Tanarus, pay to play after it'd supposedly been "in beta" for 7 years. Yes, lets charge people monthly to play a game developed back in '95, I'm sure that won't totally destroy the player base

Isn't that the beauty of it though? For all its money and influence, SOE has f***ed up simply because it considers nothing but the bottom line. Of course, CCP made EVE to make cash too - but they take other things into consideration.
With MMO's WE have the power to effect changes. Not like your average crappy EA tie-in (Sims expansions anyone?). Because MMO's automatically constitute a far stronger community than anything else associated with games developers have to get things right, and have to listen to the players - or else the above happens.
SOE's online games are suffering a lethal haemmorage, and they bloody well deserve it too. EVE can only profit from this.
If they get the blade serves in soon that is. Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

Ohhhhh I am gonna kill everyone one of those ******* bastards...
$50 for a game, $30 for each expansion, now you get the game and an expansion for $20. Here's to the most expensive beta testing any customer base has had to do in the history of gaming! --------

Edited by: Khristopher on 10/11/2005 08:49:55 BTW I don't have a link handy but they are giving all players Jump to Light Speed for free soon. Something about rewarding SWG vets or something. I never bought RotW or the new expansion pack but I did pickup JTLS to play some when it first came out and it was fun and all but the game as a whole is pretty rough/beta stage and these new changes are making it worse. Since they are now giving the expansion pack away I want my $30 back!
As for CCP my eve time has been cut back lately but it has nothing to do with CCP. CCP still has an awesome game and the updates/changes they have been doing have been good for the game as a whole (I may disagree with some they haven't been on the massive screw up scale that is SOE).
SOE getting smaller Eve Online getting bigger yar!

SWG is a riot right now. I used to play on the Ahazi server and there is literally a thread for who's leaving (nothing too odd bout this one...) and one to decide which WoW server they're going to play on, ha ha! There's a thread in the NGE (the second combat upgrade coming in a few days) titled "Stick the NGE up your ass!" and has like 500 replies. Even the Carbineer profession corespondant is posting links to other games giving people ideas for where to move on to. --------

Edited by: Jenny Spitfire on 10/11/2005 22:35:29 Well to those who miss Star Wars and are in Eve...
You can always have several B-Wings fighting/PvPing vs an Imperial Star Destroyer in Eve. Who knows, perhaps in not so distant future when we have 3D avatars of ourselves, you may even prefer to use laser swords vs guns^^.

Combat in SWG no longer works. You can't keep your target - you end up shooting other people accidentally because they got too close. Plus, there is no escape from their shots as the "bullets" will CHASE you. They added in 3rd person shooting to the game and none of it matters.
If you want that stuff you mentioned and a lot more with FOCUS to the game, go get Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and be happy that you didn't spend tons of money on a dead MMORPG. I played the game since release up until their last monstrosity changes and I tested the lastest one THOROUGHLY and it's a complete failure. --------

Well i have to say i was floored when I found out about this. I always kept my SWG account open as i had a lot of friends in SWG and the break was nice from time to time. But my class from day one was Master BE/ Master CH so there is nothign whatsoever left aafter the NGE.
I had to say bye to my many created pets as after Nov 15 they will cease to exist. I took my Wookie Bearclaww to theed gave some noob 30m credits and admin right to my house and the coordinates. I then sat him on the top of a ridge overlooking a river typed a few goodbyes to close friends who were leaving also, trading MSN info and logged never to look on SWG again. (caceled accoutn and unistalled SWG. It was depressing but at least i had EVE to go to, unlike my friends that are now stuck tryign to fill that part of their lives that SWG filled. I of course suggested EVE, but i think they are going to WOW.
It was a good run and had fun even though they really screwed it up, it had its moments. It been a few days since i found out and Im still fuming and upset about it and I dont even play it anymore really.
Want some entertainment go to the forums and read all the people leaving and sayign farewell to an OK game....not perfect but kept my interest for some time. It was by far not a bad game but thats what they are making it.

Ya I found my screenshot from when I was in my house, crafting for Doctor and had that message about Lord Vader sensing a disturbance in the Force, signifying that the first Jedi had arrived. Everyone was so excited and we couldn't wait to see the first sabers (of which I have pictures also.) Then after the first Christmas, the troubles began... 2 free holocrons (was supposed to be one, but someone botched the code) and the Hologrinding-Era began.
After that, the economy crashed, roleplayers vanished and it became a 24/7 grind-fest for almost everyone I knew. I ran a city for a time and it was pretty awesome (a city on the beach called Savvy Beach - I even made a giant ship in my city hall out of couches...), but they just kept screwing with us... each time something worked out they'd call it bugged and change it, constantly changing the "flavor of the month" profession templates to keep people shelling out money. Downward spiral into chaos and we're up to present day where the game is about to die.
I have WoW on the side, got a lvl 60 mage to play with all my old SWG buddies - try as I might, none of em will stick with EVE ("it's too hard :(" bunch of babies...) I highly prefer EVE and always will, so I can always laugh at the other companies as they kill their games while EVE thrives off their mistakes --------
