ok, so since when was this a mission worthy of being avoided? I took one a little while ago for the first time in weeks, and my Harpy got omgwtfbbqPWNEDBEOTCH in less than two minutes, which is a record (took about 4 mins for The Spy Stash to pop my Harpy).
The first thing that came as a shock was getting warp scrambled. i've done this mission countless times before and never been warp scrambled. First thing i see? The little bugger is trying to warp scramble me! Thats sign of inevitable doom #1.
Sign #2 (and this i expected), i got webbed to hell. i was counting on killing the webbers before they got be bad, then orbitting the merc commanders and picking them away like i usualy do for evil tank-breaking cruisers. But getting webbed by 2 or 3 frigs just isnt very nice.
Sign #3 of doom, my cap begins to run low. i had to run my Gistii shield booster constantly, along with my webber, AB, and 4x turrets. and my shields were staying UNDER 50% half the time.
Yup, so when my cap ran out, it was all over. just as my armor was gone i popped the scrambler ship, but it was too late, my ship exploded before i got warp alligned and warped (can thank the webbers for that).
So yea, since when the hell was this mission so terrible? I've run it countless times in the past, on a few occasions i had to warp out but not often, but i've never lost a Harpy on this mission before. Was the difficulty on it cranked up recently or something? it's rediculous.....

Yup. Same thing happened to me doing 'BMH' last night.. 2nd time that day i'd done it.
1st Time: c. 900-1100 LP & 450k (+450k) ISK, no Scrambler = finished it easy enough.
2nd Time: c. c1600 LP & 750k (+850k) ISK, 1 Scrambler in the first stage = Lost my Ishkur and gubbins. Bought a new one (+Warpcore Stab) and went back for revenge, finally finished it, but made a 20 mil ISK loss on the mission...

But, does this not add the spice to it, changes in difficulty (within limits) and abilities of the rats? Or do you prefer same-setup/same-kill-but-increasing-reward all the time?

Get a Ferrox, setup a passive, hardened shield tank. no problemo. The Destruction of your ship is usually preceeded by the thought,"I think I will try somthing a little different this time...." |

It seems there is a small chance of getting a scrambler on this mission.
I've done it maybe 8 or 10 times. I've been scrambled twice. The first time came as quite a shock, and I barely survived. The next time I knew it might happen, and did ok.
I do have to say tho... I have never pushed a ship harder then when I had no choice but to do everything I had to just to survive...

Yea, I barely get out if im scrambled and even on the webber with a active boost/hardened shield tank (ferox) I have to warp out 1-2x on that mission.

i've tried a Ferox for L3's before, and it's a royal pain in the arse. can snipe like nuts, but i have a hard time keeping it alive. i sold my Ferox for a harpy + equipment, not going back to a Ferox now. got an Apoc waiting for me, just need the skills to fly it

Lately, I've been setting up my Ferox with rails because, frankly, it does better DPS and is more fun to fly. However, when doing BMH I set up the passive shield tank and use heavy missles. It's always held up for me just fine.

It seems to me that lately the difficulty of the lvl 3 Silence the Informant has been decreased rather than increased.
I'm not quite sure how you managed to lose a gistii fitted harpy on this mission. The only one that comes remotely close to worrying me is the first level of Spy Stash, and thats only because instead of taking my time and actually killing stuff there, I just make a run for the gate.
I'm assuming that because you have a webber fitted that you didn't have an EM hardener on? That is likely your problem right there, considering that the Mercenary Commander, and Mercenary Wingman you were fighting do EM damage. Try it again with a hardener and see how well you do

I use a passive shield tanked ferox and have only needed to warp off once so far. works rather well.

I just started a L3 Informant mission, first two minutes I got my arse handed to me by two devastators. Took them 2 minutes to eat through 4k shields with 40% res on all. Mind you I didn't lose my ship :P (Was in a ferox)

Edited by: Ricky Baby on 12/11/2005 13:46:34 ive got a active tanked ferox and ive solo'd the BMH with no warp outs twice, just get keep as fast as you can and snip the wingman on the first stage - as far as silence the informant is concerned i only had to warp out to change my hardeners (forgot an em)

I think the problem with this mission has to do what dmg types the ships do. If im not mistaken merc wingmen/commanders do EM dmg and they do alot of it. And besides, the bounty on those commanders is REALLY low compared to their difficulty.

Edited by: HippoKing on 12/11/2005 18:34:16 i've never had a problem with ANY level 3 in my harpy (gistii fitted) - well, actually, spy stash was nasty before it had 2 of the sentries removed, but now its fine
edit: and as someone who isn't a fool, i fit an EM hardener

It's expensive, but with a gisti this mission just takes some time, no sweat in a harpy. Serious mission runners go gisti for lvl 3s in a harpy :)

one nasty mission, back in the days of me using a cyclone on lvl 3's it caused me to almost choke after geting warp scrambled...
Theres a small chance tho, most of the time they just web you, I managed to warp out 5 times before a scramble

I did this one today; jumped through in a pvp fitted vengenance and on the second stage was reduced to nothing in less then twenty seconds; as all the rats were attacking me. Went out and bought a retribution, redid the mission with the rats spawning at proper distances; did the second stage in about ten minutes. Maybe it's a bug, or maybe not *shrugs*.

to who ever noticed the lp rewards jump:
maybe your standing had raised high enough to increase the agents quality. I've noticed that before where the missions suddenly get harder. Its cos the agent has enough quality to pit you against bigger rats.
eg on lvl3 duo of death i started out vs 70-90K crusers. now when i do it the rats are always well over 120K. just cos my agents quality has gone up with my standing.
as for silance the informant, realy does sound like the resistances arnt there for the main poster. I can do this mission in a blaster brutix, its always a kill or be killed experiance but so far i've managed to pull through everytime, even if i finish the first spawn in the 2nd section on 9% cap . but i have the armours natural resistance to em to help out and a kin and therm hardner.
i know from first hand experiance that u gotta be carefull with t2 ships. i find my af's make for very expensive frigits on lvl3 missions if i dont pick the ship with the right natural resistances. thats why i got gal and amarr ones . speaking of which my golden amarr af (vengence or retribution???) has a wonderfull setup, all resistances nicly over 60%, t2 pulse lasers with multi freq for combat and a spare set for getting the webbers at 10km. she has enough cap to run every module 24/7. absolutly wonderfull mission runner. just a bit boring though, no do or die, just click and wait. thinking of dropping some cap for more damage to spice things up a bit Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage. |

To clarify this yet again:
As a rule of thumb. all ships that web, can also warp scramble.
Many of them do not do so often, but they can, so prepare for it.
But really, if you're losing AFs on level 3 missions, either your setup is not quite right or you're doing something wrong. Or maybe your skillpoints arent quite up to scratch.

To the OP, when webbed, turn off your AB. Going 20 m/s is no better than 10 m/s. Save your cap for tanking.

For me it's "Damn I knew I shouldn't post on the forums while doing silence the informant..."
And to make it even more fun I am currently doing silent the informant while posting this, no ships lost this time at least, *keeps her finger crossed*.

i have 1.6 mil sp total, 1.2 mil in combat, i solo all level 3 missions with ease in a ferox, iv done 10 part storylines 4 times as well, in a way im quite dissapointed, because iv only been playing 2 months, should it really be this easy?

Lvl3s are all easy. It will be interesting to see how you find soloing lvl4 deadspace drone infestations or the last gate of Angel/Gurista Extra.s though :) These are much more interesting IMO.

if you find it too easy, and you don't enjoy it being too easy, do what I do -- use something smaller, or try doing it much much faster (by aggroing more than one spawn at a time, maybe).
But that's just me, and I do enjoy blowing up -- and I'm quite happy while playing eve =) -------------------------------------------
