Been playing Eve for 14 days now. If I'd known this game was here I would have stopped playing SWG years ago.
Oh to be a nub again! YAY!
And I do believe there will be a substantial amount of players joining EVE from SWG. I know of at least a dozen personally.
Yo Starbauch! I'll see you in game m8. Had to take a break earlier. See you in a few ( hopefully ).

I don't know if you should really refer to a third-person perspective game as a first-person shooter, but I get the idea...
I left SWG and returned to EVE about a couple of weeks before the first combat 'upgrade'. All that I read afterwards led me to believe that it had turned into a game that I would have no fun playing.
I appreciate that everyone is leaving the ship now (I did that myself when UO changed beyond recognition) but a good friend and I have just reopened our accounts to see how this new game (SWG2) plays. It's definetly not the original SWG but a FPS (in third person) Star Wars MMOG, with a lot more brains than your standard FPS fare, is not something I'm willing to write off completely without trying. Hell, some masochists still play UO...
Either way, I'm not leaving EVE... *Puts Frigate V into training, just incase*.

I can think of a whole bunch of times the devs have listened to feedback and altered their plans. The original drone change from 1.5 years ago, Min outpost refinery yield, missiles (upcoming), the drone thermal damage modifier, etc.

Thats the thing though... Its not third-person perspective anymore, its first-person now.
I only played SWG a very short time and I was not impressed enough with it to bother again. _______________________________________________

Lots of SWG threads popping up on every mmo board i read, going to be a nice xmas bonus for the competition i think :)
I played swg at release and it was pretty fun up untill the holocron grind when i left. Also enjoyed Ps and eq1\2 till soe started messing with them too much...
My advice to ccp is listen to your players but stick to your vision. Doing an soe and changing the game to satisfy players that have already quit will jsut loose you players who were staying because of that feature or gameplay style.
Hopefully eve will be my new home fo now :)

CCP do a good job and also do a good job of ignoring players if it isnt going to benefit everyone overall. that is a double edged sword but it appears to be working so far the main issue at the moment is lag - but that lag is a combination of growth spurt - local battles not being able to cater for 800 players (software - hardware issues) should improve a lot in the nxt 6 months
Lack of jove space - more players will create the temptation after china is in to move into a jove backstory and more solar systems.
And i guess only just reaching profitability and profits being ploughed back into the game there is going to be a RL time lag between more money going itno software development = content and new hardware and the results. So stick with eve at least for 6 months keep the $$$ coming in because unlike SOE and WOW the profits arent really goign to shareholders (private company that CCP is) the people that seed funded eve i think included telecom iceland (this game is a big export earner for iceland and a place its local IT talent can goto) and a lot of the surplus funds are A) new staff new hardware and more time on development b) china expansion = more funds down the track that can be put into TQ c) new premises to house a larger CCP d) dunno RL research and development to improve the product

Honestly people could yo stop comparing SOE to CCP, these comparisons just show you have no clue about what you're talking about OR that you have a really warped vision of reality.
To all SWG refugees, welcome. How about a campaign like the one CCP made when E&B shut down?

Originally by: hoaps surgery the problem is that communication is supposed to go both ways, when ccp posts that they are going to change something thats it, it is done, coded, in the can, and no matter how many tell them there going wrong it still happens, examples are the big torp nerf, and the impending drone slaughter.
You're clearly not enjoying Eve as much as you feel you should be, if your posts here are anything to go by. Could I suggest you spend a bit of time on SiSi contributing to the development of the game by testing these things out and giving constructive feedback to the devs before they're introduced to the game, and maybe take your problems with the game to the Game Development Forum instead.
I believe these are methods of 2 way communication set up by CCP to allow the community to take part in the development of the game, something you won't see in SWG for sure.
Nobody's going to like all the changes that are made, but raising the bar on weapons changes would be a false economy - instead of having a few newbs flying powerful ships we'd be swamped with them. Battles would last seconds and there'd be less incentive for us to use our brains and develop creative and intelligent ship setups and battle tactics. I like that Eve doesn't pander to the desire for an easy life.

Hmm, they implemented these stupid mechs. Was fun for two days but then they got boring. So when the free mech playtime was over I didn't train the skills. I thought that these uber mechs with mega firepower and uber defense suck. Was more fun to run a around with a lasher and have some cool 1-on-1 or 1-to-3 situation and pwn or get pwned, or with a stolen jack hammer or mini gun without a mega-pwnage-mech.

Actually it looks as if they took the worst aspects of FPS and MMORPG and combined them. Anyway I am also in the 'mad as hell about what SOE did with Infantry' so I am somewhat biased in this regard. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

as someone who lived thru SOE - EQ's vast nerfs of enchanters
in both cases, feedback and customer service went ignored and unheard, or was just plain out to *****the customer CCP has publicly addmitted they fubar'd a CS issue(4S's name), CCP took feedback and is making a change(missile re re ballance)
in the few months i've been here I've seen CCP (vastly) > SOE / Bliz

I agree completely, and yet we watch them do it time after time.
See, but they haven't done anything that ruins the game, and they've only had subscribers go up after EnB crashed and burned. Also, they're hiring devs for the EVE team, not firing them. That last thing is why CCP > SOE && CCP > EA

THERE BATTLESHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, am i the only one that understands this? pwning is what there supposed to do, right now a damned tristan can sit 5000 meters away shooting me and i cant touch it with my geddon unless i have a small gun, or smarty,
Battleships are the most flexable ships in game. They can do anything, but they can't do everything. The problem is that people set them up for one specific purpose (generally killing other battleships at extreme range) and then cry when they are blown up by someone who comes along in something that isn't a battleship and engages at a not-so-extreme range.
One of the things I am terrified about facing in my close-range tempest is a tanked cruiser. The tracking on autocannons is bad enough that if they get into orbit, I'm screwed. So what do I do? Fit 2 webs, a 20k scram and either nos or smartbombs. Voilla, cruiser is completely immobalized (2 webs), can't warp (20k scrambler), can't activate modules (nos) or can't drone me (smart bombs), and I can turn on my autocannons and destroy it in 30 seconds. If it gets within the range of the webs it's dead, if it stays outside it's dead.
Funnily enough, that exact same setup can also keep frigates or battleships from getting too close or too far. OMGHAX A FITTING THAT WORKS IN MORE THAN ONE SCENARIO!!

I would kill for a first-person camera while in a interceptor, so long as I was also given manual control :)

ccp do the best possible job they can.
c'mon guys give them a break - since I started playing I've seen the server numbers grow from around 10k to 17k. Thats pretty damned impressive growth for a game.
yes they have dropped the ball in the past, but at least CCP have the guts to say so. Also, I've never played an MMO where I got money refunded cause of server problems.
CCP have been victims of their own success but they are working very hard to solve problems and they have been good enough to let us know what their intentions are with regard to hardware and software fixes. not many companies would do that.
Also, theres not many games out there where the actions of the players have a lasting effect. Theres not many games out there with player driven content. There sure as hell arent many games out there where the Devs have such a close relationship with the players.
That takes a lot of hard work and I for one think CCP do a damn fine job.
I took a long hard look at SWG when it came out. It was either that or Eve. I am so glad I chose Eve.
Incidentally CCP, my wallets a bit empty.............

That's exactly what SOE did to SWG. They took a wonderfully deep, immersive and complex MMORPG and turned it into a stupided-down, generic, console-ready FPS hack.
They released an expansion pack with profession specific rewards, then the very next day announced that in two weeks the game would be changing so much that those professions were no longer part of the game! Suprisingly enough SOE turned around today and announced that you could get a refund for the expansion pack after so many people complained about the deceptive marketing and outright lies they gave their paying customers.
Welcome to the SWG folk! I'm one too (from Radiant) but I gave up on that game a few months ago. :) -- Lil Miner |
