Adding another "Oh no!" to the list.
This would benefit character sellers, macroers and people able to play all day long, while those who work won't benefit much from it. And as it is now those already have enough reward for the time played in the form of player (not character) experience and isk. And social relations, be them with NPCs or PCs. Skills are the only even playing field for casual and powergamers alike. This would uneven the field.
So... "Oh no!"

Wow, there's been a lot of negative feedback on this. While I don't really mind either way if that system was brought back or not, it could be done in a way that's fair to everyone, without promoting macros or grinding.
What if your skills slowly went up, regardless of whether or not you were using or fitting the mod, much in the way that normal skills do? Going AFK wouldn't affect it, and macros would be useless, but it would still improve your skills with your fitted mods.

While it would have been nice to set up an auto login macro to make sure I stayed online 24/7 to train my skills before I deployed to Iraq, I'm going to have to add my no to this one. I'll just catch my skills up when I get home...

As a newb player i was thinking : " hell, the old timers sure don't want us to catch up with them..."
But the truth is such a system will only help people who play a lot, not all new or old players.Making more isk is already a good reward for them ( + better ships / equipment / implants, missions rewards etc...).
I don't want to select a ship with a maximum number of slots just so i could use them slots to train my skills faster.I don't want the devs to rethink the slots distribution with skill training in mind.
If you want to go for "training skills through usage", then you must provide a way to train all skills.Ship modules can't do that.
And yes, lag (and exploits if this was not done properly ) will be a problem.
PS : i'm french and this is my first post in english, hope i'm not making too much a fool of myself...

No, i think CCP should think about in increase attribute points again. We have a lot more skills now and new ones are comming. Something like - +5 new Points and you can choose on what attributes you want to have to points...
Cheers, Tresh

I don't think a change to that kind of system would be a improvement because (as far as I know), Eve pioneered the time based training system and, frankly, it rocks. I think it treats players fairer than lving/grinding in a traditional MMO. On a side note, it's probably harder for a MMO farmer ( )to make a quick buck even with maxed stats, ect. from character selling.

I don't like the idea. For me, the 'best' thing about EVE is that character advancement is purely real time based. (Well, you have to make isk to buy skillbooks, but ...).
That's fine the way it is.

In theory it is a good idea, but as many people have said 2 many exploits to it so how about have a percentage of the learning of each level of the skill been allowed 2 train it using this meathod so people could only really exploit it 2 a certain degree where people who use the items can boost the training times in a honest way.
