Hello,
I'm interested to see if there's support to turn the "automatic training" of skills back on.
For those who don't know : Back in the days your skills training when u used certain shipmods. For example : using cargo expanders would increase the "hull upgrades" skill, slowly.
Pro's : People get rewarded by using the mods they trained for (I think this is fair). I think with all the new skills this could be nice, especially for the newer players because maxing skills to 5 would be the max profit you can get. Meaning newer players can catch up a little faster.
Cons : Exploitable (fitting, undocking, docking, refitting) ?
Just reply with a constructive yes or no please :D
PS : It was never clear to me that the slow learning was a feature or a bug but eventually they found out what it was and removed it. So my guess this would be easy to code.

hmm, i'd have to say no. Only because i don't think the skill system is in need of any changes.

To make it work it would have to be time based. That would mean ppl who are able to keep the comp running all night and day had an advantage over light sleepers. Bad idea!

People put mods on their ships, park them in a safe spot (or system), and go afk forever - lol

soulita, for example this could be set only to work when : 1 : you are actually using the mod or 2 : at the refitting screen, once per hour.
This would mean a minimal increase but could help the newer players.

how to promote the use of macro`s
bad idea and exploitable like in the past, hence why it was removed in the first place ________________

For expanders, the skill went up every time you fitted/unfitted one, so your example wouldnt work.
It would however allow someone so set up a macro to keep fitting/unfitting the module until the skill is maxed so its a bad idea bringing it back imo.

Hmm...are you listening to yourselves? Safespot and go AFK? Only while in space? Hmm..probes. Hmm..sucide alts.
Go for it CCP! YARR!!
Personally, in this context, it sounds great. Time-based, while the module is fitted..not activated..and only while in space. Let the players keep players honest and not use it to speed up skills indefinatly. An increase while using..as in, on the ship. I don't know. THe other ramifications would have to be looked at, but it's interesting to think about it, isn't it?

Think I remove one ballistic control from my hunting raven and put a cargo expander on it. Sorry, couldn't resist to make this comment, was almost the first thing that came into my mind.

If skill training worked like this again, I could just sit afk all day with loads of armor hardeners running or shooting an asteroid or something

I don't play WoW.
Snake : your example would be great for some "fitting differences" for once.

A once per hour increase ? You would be a target all day long for 23 times something points on small/med/large lasers ? Go for it !

Absolutely not !
1. Way to exploitable (hello training macro .o/)
2. Very active players in Eve get mroe then enoug rewards for their activity already.
3. training time is fine. _______________________________________________

It used to be that way. I never figured out the math, but if you used mining lasers your skill increased by a real small amount. Navigation went up while you flew, gunnery and that weapons skill went up such a small amount when you were out hunting....
Just seems better, if you do that same job day after day after day your skill on doing that job gets better.
And like I said, two years ago, that system was there.

Interesting idea, but wouldn't this create quite a load on the servers which had to do all the skill increase calculations? Higher lag for some minor skill increases doesn't sound like a good idea. And there's also the exploit question, for example the macro miners would have maxed skills in no time as they're on 24/7 :P
I'd have to say no.

Far to exploitable, id just tank my alts bs and shoot it for a few days straight with my main while sitting in a +100 au safespot.
Sure it would cost me some ammo, but maxed out gunnery and tanking skills would be nice.
Guess why it was removed in the first place? ------------------

Gotta add my NO to the statment.
Newer players now have the ability to attain skill points far far far more easily now than when the auto learn feature was on.

No, not a good idea. Way too exploitable, as mentioned numerous times above. Also, this would, and did "back in the day", contradict one of the fundamental design elements and differentiating factors of the game of EVE.
