I would suggest that one reads the CSM chat on the eve-i.com website since it explains alot of the questions people have asked in this thread.

The 5.5 mil ISK price is in line with the CU Vapors. Remember that the CU Vapors are in great supply and they are inferior to the Miner II. Back a few weeks ago many people paid well over 7 million for CU Vapors.
The Miner II costs about 20-30K to make. That means that with one being built every 30 minutes, it brings in greater than 260 mil a day profit. The 1.45 billion ISK BP is a good deal. Yes it is more expensive than a battleship BP, but can you make over 260 mil ISK a day selling battleships? Not even close!
It is doubtful prices will drop much any time soon. Do not expect to see the BPs on the market for sale like level 1 BPs.
Contact Crystie in game if you are interested in bulk orders of 10 or more or the bp copy (no orig exists as of right now).
Yesterday about 290 mil was made since the average going price was 6.4-6.6 million ISK. The base is still 5.5 mil, but many people pay more to get them immediately.

Again, if you don't like the prices, don't pay them. You may want a Miner II badly, but if you think the prices are outrageous nothing's stopping you from keeping your wallet closed, is there? More bp's will show up, more people will manufacture them, supply will rise, demand will drop and the prices will go down. It's basic economics.
Again, I don't honestly believe the gm/dev group could have introduced a tight supply of the bpc's for Miner II without a bunch of people in an uproar. I've read a lot of people stating 'they should have done it this way' or 'it would have been much more fair if they'd done it that way'. Granted, they could have polled the collective on how best to introduce new tech into the game, but how damned boring is that?!?
When I signed onto this game what appealed to me most was the depth of this game, and it has a hell of a lot more depth than say Freelancer. Get the best ship with the best guns and lots of money in that game and what happens? You get friggin' bored to death pretty quickly.
Get the best ships and the best guns in this game and someone comes along that's figured a way to smack you around and pod you anyway and as frustrating as that sounds it AIN'T boring!
To me the CTD and other rife bug issues are MUCH more important than this. The game's supposed to be developing more in-depth content as it goes. Name me another game that is even close to approaching that as as goal.
Yeah, yeah, we've been waiting for that to show up and the damned bugs are keeping them so busy the depth suffers, but I think once the majority of bugs are dealt with and the game has a real chance to proceed, it will. I'm still willing to wait and see because this game beats the crap out of just about anything else out there right now.

It appears Miner II's don't make use of your astrogeology skill.
As it is, a corp. friend calculated that, if he bought enough Miner II's to load out his Apoc, it would take him 125 hours of mining before they "paid for themselves".
That is 5 days of constant mining, 24 hours a day, not accounting for pauses to get the stuff hauled etc,
Considering most people probably only play 8 hours max. per day you're looking at 2 weeks for a return on your investment.
I hope people who paid 5M for a laser are feeling pretty stupid - in 2 weeks I'm guessing these lasers will be worth a lot less than 5M.

Mhh.. A miner II outfit will increase your rare ore mining amount from 3 to 4 if you only have mining and from 4 to 5 if you have astrogeology.
One refine of bis is worth 1.71 mil with the current mineral prices and a good refiner. A apoc with 8 miners @ 3 units needs 8.33 minutes to get that, with 4 units per miner it would be 6.25 mins, with 5 units per miner 5 mins.
So, with 3->4 you would save 33% and with 4->5 25% of the time - meaing you would make as much more profit/time.
Assuming you mine all the time that means you save without astro 564k and with astro 427k.
That means you have to mine 85 hours nonstop bis without astro and 112 hours with astro to pay for those 8 miner 2 a 6 mil each.

Of cource. Any form of transportation isn't included there. For example, if you make a miner-hauler team and share the profits equally your hours will double...
ATM only one type of mining comes into my mind where a miner 2 could actually be worth it's money. Afk mining with a indy.

oh man, sometimes, i wish the old days were back again! The miner II bp was A not to say THE turning point in a miner's career. It took CCP 1 year 2 months to make mining more attractive to ppl - Exodus, along with the mining barges were out...
Could i just have a small word of critisism:
if Battle is what EVE is about and the building stone to engage, Mining.
Why does it takes bloody ages to make mining fun, attractive, profitable.
and fighting on the other hand, attractive, profitable and fun, when each patch comes out...
/me been addicted for 1year4months odd and staying, but don't let us 'miners' get cold in the depths of space pwease :)
