FFS CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SORT OUT THESE NODE DEATH PROBLEMS!! No wonder the customers have been going nuts over the past few weeks! Think after RMR you guys need to take a close look at the server software more than what you are doing now, screw kali, whats the point in having the damn thing if we cant get past character selection!
<rant over>
CCP I love you and I know that you are truly doing your best. I also know that you'll be putting teh three new coffee-makers (new prorgammers) to good use and get them to take a fresh set of eyes over some of the problems that we've been having lately, be it hardware or server software.
If these problems are node deaths and not part of the internet crapping out again like what happened earlier then I apologise and I hope you guys dont have to spend too long fixing it.
Lots a love, Gothikia!

As of 2200 GMT, no node or CPU warnings have been sent out to the staff on the notification list. This would lead me to believe that the troubles this evening are not server related. The network technicians are looking into this issue.

Your notificationsystem is broken! Of course it must be so... Can we players get a notification-service for this kind of stuff too so we dont have to undock before some dev change login-message?

Here's the pre-post-mortem on the current connectivity issue.
Earlier today, there were some connection issues with one of the upstream ISPs. After a minor bobble, service was restored.
Within the last hour, there was another connection issue with one of the upstream ISPs. This time, over 5,000 players lost connection. The server clusters were chugging along under the load of these players attempting to log back into EVE all at the same time. Cluster stability is on the increase and lag/connectivity issues should be on the decline.
As I posted earlier, the network technicians are looking into issue. The hotfix applied yesterday is *not* the root of this problem.
Oveur has also posted a news item with further information.

Ok, 9000 players WERE NOT KICKED from the server, only players on certain links were kicked.
Yes... on some warped level the servers are selectivly targetting you to be dropped.... somehow I dont think so. Either that or the people that keep screeming that they have loads and loads of problems are targetted.
Ok, as 9000 players were fine throughout this then I find it very hard to see it as a server problem. IT must be a network connection problem somewhere commen to all the people that got thrown.
NO REBOOT NEEDED TO FIX THIS as it had nothing to do with CCP, 9000 people can testify.
Will people PLEASE stop jumping onto the "It MUST be CCP's problem. Server restart will fix my PC or network problems" when there is MASSIVE proof its not. OK, they do ocasionally mess up (yesterday DT) but this is not one of them.

The hamster is fine. The wheel needs oil. The more CCP uses modules to resolve balance issues instead of systemwide rules, the more control CCP will have over how EVE works. CCP, please keep this in mind before swinging the nerfbat. |

What strikes me as interesting here, is that today - I've had an average of a 45ms round trip to 157.157.139.10. Log say there's been a three peaks today, only one going above 100ms. There's been two complete outages, one beeing the scheduled downtime. The other was the one at around 14.00 (the backbone incident?).
Yet - I've been laging in EVE for the majority of the day. Runing on autopilot and I get to sit at every gate for about 1 minute. Before warping to the next gate, after the jump has finnaly occured, I get to wait another 1-2 minutes and hopefully NOT disconnect.
Just adding information to the thread from a end users POV.

I read somewhere else in the forums that Eve was designed to permit players having something as slow as a dial-up connection. If this is true then welcome to the 70,000 subscriber, 17,000 simultaneous online player lag-tastic universe. I've played real time online games for over 10 years both as a dial-up and cable modem user. Multiplayer online games begin lagging as soon as low-bandwidth players log in. Get enough of them logged in and, guess what, your cable modem, DSL, T1, OC ain't worth doodley squat anymore. Some games I've played claimed to have software modules which compensated for faster and slower player connections. I never saw one game that satisfactorally did this. Like I said above, if Eve software accepts dial-up subscribers, we're screwed. It's that simple.

Edited by: Maniac King on 17/11/2005 00:24:08 uhh can we stop blamin our isp as in this forum a guy from australia had problems . i am in uk and some of my corpies from us have been having the problems.
either the whole internet is fubar(god help me!!)
or the 3 most advanced countries in the world have **** isp(which i doubt!!)
or eve is ****** up and ppl r not admitting it(omg omg gosh can it b true!!!)
so as i believe it was Sherlock Holmes said "when there is no logical explanation then the remainin explanation , however illogical, must b the answer"
p.s. this is not a dig at the staff/eve team only at the GM who are patronising us/me with their responces like our logs show no sign of any lag etc and "HOPE U RECOVER FROM UR LOSS SOON!!" or something like that
do GM's read these forums???? --------------------------------------

Thanks for the laugh.

A major backbone provider upstream from TQ has been having issues with their routing tables today. This is causing the disconnects. Our server techs are in constant contact with the backbone provider and they are working on resolving the issues.
This is not only causing issues with TQ, but also connection issues in more places on the internet. This is however, very apparent with TQ since the provider is the biggest backbone TQ is connected to. ------ Valar Quality assurance department CCP games How to write a good bugreport |

took me 2-3 minutes to move things in the hanger today
What provider went out ? was it a break in the fiber ? a router went out ? some one forgot to restart an APF and the server got invaded ? I know routing issues can cause high latency, but from what i have seen and delt with its a all or nothing deal. when you have routing issues nothing works(for people coming in from that route), when its resolved it all works, i have never seen it half way broken/working real slow. this is coming from the issues i have seen when the **** hits the fan here ( in LA california )
So what exactly went out ?

Still lagging and jumping all over the place with a rubber band, pings and traces still doesn't indicate anything beeing wrong with the network.
Any news on what's happening CCP?

great again....
this lag and the following disconnects is unacceptable.
one of my chars can log in, the other is lagged out and cant.
i dont believe any of this stuff about providers. if it was the providers all chars would be affected the same.
this must stop

ok the way i see it is more people more lag..so you add another server and more things to do in game more things to use = more lag .. so why not take all the things to do with pvp,npc basicly all the fighting stuff and put all that on a diffrent server cause it,s really only the fighters that need no lag.to miners lag is not a problem to builders/traders lag is not a problem . yes i know this will be nearly impossible to do but with the next big patch you will get another 2-4 thousand players joining eve and unless things are sorted out a lot of people will be moving to newer games potcbs to be one of them ...and plz don't say it's my system it an't ath 64 with 2 gig mem and plz don't say it's my isp 4mb line not the fastest but for this game it should do . i don't think ccp ever intended to have 16-17k people online at one time but with the money there making 16kxú10 per month they should be able to afford to sort it out ... ok my rant is over with !! plz move on

Funny that the problem is not solved and still no new news about this. i have a hard time beliving that those 7000 still are trying to connect and make my game unplayable
network issues cause yad (yet another disconnect) reported by Oveur | 2005.11.16 22:09:48 | NEW The recent disconnect of approximately 7000 people is being traced to a similar incident which happened earlier today with one of our backbone providers. The 7000 people logging back in over a short period did not help with performance for the people playing nor the people logging back in. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are notifying our provider again to prevent this from happening - yet again. Removed - Inappropriate and too big. -Capsicum http://cda.stylii.com |

Log on, crash at authentication process. Hit log on again, character screen pops up quite fast! Yay! .. Click my character, go eat breakfast, comes back to see the screen change to station UI. Super! Only took 7 minutes. Manage to toss off a couple of lines in chat, then lag out.
This is getting very silly now .. __________

its not CCPs problem its the internet service providers that are causing these regional drop outs ie east coast USA etc.
Thats were the lack of Ping access is coming in so stop blowing CCP up and ask yure ISPs to look into it

Might be true, for some people. In my own case - it's not, which you can see by the trace and the round trip graph I posted.
However, due to something, after downtime today - lag now seems to be gone. Well, the insane one I had at least. Still takes time (roughly 40-60 seconds) to open up "Show info" boxes for example. __________

Same problems here based in UK. 3 of us doing a lvl 4 mission, all on same BB exchange but with different providers. One person gets massive lag and drops out (we can see his ship getting pummelled by Seraphim Battleships :-( ...) Eventually other friend lags out and auto warps. My system however gets no lag ie can still manouver target etc then suddenly gets kicked out, all in space of 90 seconds or so. Internet all ok logs show no problems with my connection at all. CCP answer once petitioned for loss of mates battleship, not a problem here must have been your connection AAARRRGGHHHH. Needless to say trying to petition again and get through to someone with some commen sense/knowledge this time..

I have got two accounts
One accounts char was in empire at the time of crash - the other in 0.0 space.
The empire character did not crash once while the 0.0 had multiple occurences.
Just for your eyes so the "its the route to the provider" explanation does not gain purchase ..
