I'm sure there are plenty of thread on this but to be completely honest I can't be bothered to go wading through the forum to find them. After about a minute of logging in I get "socket closed" it is a constant problem now and the game is unplayable.
I've tried running the game through wire, wireless, with & without firewall or antivirus, no other programs running, with the launcher (piece of **** by the way) and without the launcher nothing helps. I'm on a fibre line getting 12mps up and down at peak time.
Any suggestions or links to other threads would be appreciated. Only been subbed over a month and all I have seen is launcher and server issues, not very good. |

As the player count on Tranquility has not changed appreciably, this "socket closed" problem seems to only affect you.
My advice would be for you to take active measures to keep these sockets open. When one closes, find out why it closed, and see if you can do anything to keep it open. Depending on the diameter of your socket, you could try making a PVC pipe stent to keep the socket open at all times.
Your mileage may vary.

The socket closed issue is still an issue. In an effort to help I logged when I was DisConnected. I read (briefly) in other forums this is a DDOS attack, or specific to the client issues, etc... My connection type, ISP, NIC driver all work fine with the other apps and programs I use, just not with Tranquility. I was staying connected for hours (yea!) previous to June 12th time frame. Now that connectivity has been slashed to 45/50 minutes at best.
These are the specific date/time stamps I have been DC'ed from Eve - Socket Closed is the specific error, some times accompanied by an authorization error. (times are listed in the +4.5 timezone -Kabul)

I've never heard of an ISP that gives the same rate up and down. Up is normally lower. Also, 12? Wut? I live in Australia and get ~80Mbps on average. Australia has the worst internet in the developed world.
Except maybe NZ, of course. But they're not even a real country anyway. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

Welcome to Eve. The issues have all sort of come up in the last month so don't get disheartened. As far as socket disconnects, I used to get them regularly, and the issue for me was my modem (a Belkin one), changed it to another brand and have not had an issue since. Bienator II: "You can identify eve players by looking at their cars. Since they don't drive what they can't afford to lose." I play in highsec. |

You can have screenshots of multiple speed test from different clients if it helps you sleep better. I did mention this was at peak time when my area see's a lot of heavy usage. |

So the only person who has attempted to give advice is basically saying "yeah it doesn't work put up with it". That's like buying a bus ticket then it not showing so you walk anyway.

While it's a bit rare for ISPs, they do provide symmetrical packages on their lines so 12/12 isnt sci-fi. |

I would suggest this indicates a router somewhere near your end of the system is having issues, since it is so localised. If it was down CCP's end of the internet, lots of people would have this issue. So chances are it is somewhere in your ISP's connection to the rest of the world. |

Some days the front page will be filled with locked closed socket threads. You don't hear more people talking about it because it's against the rules to talk about poor performance here.

IF you are getting socket closed when you are inactive it could be due to your ISP.
IF ISP's get short on bandwidth they will start actively shutting down inactive connections. Just because you are getting 12 meg to your house doesn't mean there isn't a throttle somewhere down the line.
Sad part is some companies will offer high rates to your house but not have the trunks to support it. Basically they are counting on burst traffic to get them through. Web traffic, downloads, email are all burst traffic. Sadly for online gaming you need sustained traffic (real-time traffic). Truth be told a constant 1 meg is worth a lot more then a 12 meg burst when it comes to online gaming.
One work around is to keep an active in game chat channel open, ie open up the help channel and stuff it in the background. But that only works if they are trying to shut down inactive connections.
Another option is to reduce your MTU from 1500 down to 800. Technically you will be using more bandwidth but you are playing the odds that by increasing your packet count enough will get through to maintain your connection. |

Hmm the thing is any other game I play online works just fine I have no connection issues. Constant disconnects are only an issue with eve for me. I'll give this a try anyway and see how it goes. |

I have had this too a lot although while having a stable internet connection.
Are you running OS X? Freezing up on a mac seems to be a very common issue with no clear explanation or reason see: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=26864&find=unread

the only time ive heard of when you have the same download aswell as upload is when you have a dedicated or lease line in which the line itself has the same upload than down. However these are usually for businesses with a high demand in uploading data so not sure about that.
I kept getting the socket closed on a win 7 which did my head in and So I riped out the DED and then added it again and its worked for me fine since

I have started encountering this issue since the recent patch, "Socket Closed" messages in game and the only option is to restart the client.
It happens fairly regularly, and their seems to be no pattern to my in game behavior that could trigger it, as it's happened both when I'm mining while reading a book AND when I'm in combat (yeah thanks for that).
It's happened again as I'm typing this post, and I was manually flying my ship to Jita.
I am at a loss, before Odyssey I could run two clients at once even on my crappy old machine, and both would remain connected for hours without issue.
Since Odyssey and the patches that have come with it I'm getting this error fairly regularly, and thanks to the new launcher meaning you can't just reconnect the game client and have to back right out to log back in at the launcher I don't bother with two clients anymore. |
