It's Ragnarok, and for those not familiar with the Nordic Sagas it means the end of the world, just like Armageddon and Apocalypse.
So why isn't the Amarr Titan's name?
Before all this Titan nonsense came along I always imagined they'd bring out tier3 battleship and name the Minmatar one Tornado and the Amarr one Ragnarok because of the previous names; Typhoon, Tempest, Apocalypse and Armageddon.
CCP made another " :/ "

No, you're wrong. Lots and lots of minmatar ships have names rooted in Norse mythology - Munnin, Naglfar, Fenrir, for example. Rangarok fits exactly in with those names, and seeing as its the biggest, most powerful ship the Minmatar have ever constructed, naming it after their cultural idea of the end of the world is pretty apt. ---:::---

Personally i like the name, but i do see what you mean about it fitting better as a Amarr ship.
But as a fellow Minmatar warrior once said...
"...unless the Amarr titan is designed so that a couple Breachers can fly side by side along it and fire a single foxfire rocket down an exhaust... - i will be disappointed"

Amarr names are all based on Christian or semi-Christian themes .. Armageddon being the site of the Apocalypse battle, crucifier, purifier, etc. etc.
A lot of them apply equally well to other religious themes, but Ragnarok is an exclusively Nordic term and wouldn't make sense in an Amarr context.

You got a point...
and Tornado is a stupid name, Hurricane would be too,
But still think it's kind of a ripoff from Amarr, just like calling another faction's ship, other than caldari ofcourse, Ostritch, Rooster, or perhaps a bird that's not stupid.
well you know what i mean

True. But they're running out of names for storm types, unless they call it the Great Red Spot.

Ragnarock is a norse name.
Armageddon (and to a lesser extent) Apocalypse are judaeo-hebraic names.
better amarrian names would be things like Gomorrah or Golgotha, biblical names, rather than a norse name that is out of place with the Amarrian culture.

I think youll find most of the names for amarr ships are the sort of words you find in catholic writings of the middle ages, and specifially the inquisition period. Very apt. ------------- Where are the named 800mm Plates and Mega Ions, CCP?

"The Titans
In the Amarr tongue, their name is Imud Hubrau, or "Beast of Heaven". To the Gallente, they are known as Soltueurs, or "Sun Slayers". The collective name for these behemoths is Titans, the largest spacefaring vessels ever constructed..."
more here: Titans
while the names there are the empires titans, doesn't mean that we wont get something simmilar. now i just have to take a guess at the caldari one... Roc is a possibility, but it doesn't sound too intimidating, hmm...

Close, but it's Hel, after one of the goddesses of the Underworld, and it's one of the Minmatar Carriers.

The Minmatar have lots of stuff named after Norse names. Some have already been mentioned, I'll add Warrior, Valkyrie, Berserker, Mjolnir. I would'nt be half surprised if the carrier were named Slepier (After Odin's horse), or Gotagolmoran (forgive the spelling, it's the Germanic for Ragnorok)
As to the tier 3 Minmatar battleship, I hope they name it Maelstrom, a fitting name to go with Tempest and Typhoon.
Though the Brutor seem to be of Carribien liniage, I believe the tall, pale, thin Sebietor may be Nordic or Germanic liniage. If they are of Nordic liniage, and since they build most of the stuff, it would explain the large amount of Norse names used.
Either free the slaves or we will come and get them.

Sleipnir is already planned for the Minmatar Command ship (Note: Not to be confused with the Fleet Command ship, planned to be named "Claymore")
And as for on-topic, while Ragnarok (or in germanic, G÷tterdSmmerung) is a dooms-day scenario, it doesn't put it in line with Amarrian names.
Reason being: Ragnarok is described as the final battle between the Gods (Aesir and the Giants/servants of Hel, lead by Loki). Humans will live on after the battle but the gods will be no more.
From a christian point of view, this would be considered, wihtout a doubt, a pagan belief. In that respect, it meaning the "Twillight of Gods", or end of gods if you will, fits quite well with the Matari's hatred towards the Amarrians. If the Amarrians had named their Titan "Ragnarok", it could be considered as the Amarrians declaring their religion dead. In my opinion anyway :) ________________________________________ <insert clever/witty comment here>
