CCP legalized the buying of isk for real life money, assuming its done trough the GTC system of course. Tbh i still dont understand why, apart from the reason that CCP makes money off of it this way, though Kieron (or was i Oveur) says thats not the reason... ------------------

Lets put it this way.
They answer all the easy, fluffy and cuddly questions really quickly.
A bit of controversy and they go as quiet as a Scottish pub when someone asks "whose round is it now?"

Buying time codes and then selling them for isk is the same thing as buying isk on EBAY.
It's retarded that it isn't a bannable offense. ________________________________________________________

Its a touchy subject apparently. I too however am quite interested in why exactly time card selling is allowed while Ebaying is not? ------------------

Try it again, include your charactername. If you ask a question and we get the mail, you will get a response.
About the only time we ignore a mail outright is if it doesn't contain at least a sliver of respectful content. It could be that we either didn't get it, or you addressed your question to an individual that is afk. ---

The easiest solution is for CCP to stop selling time cards and replace them with a non-transferable alternative (you buy the "time" in whatever form it takes, and only applies to your account), simple.

Edited by: Klaryssa on 23/11/2005 03:50:07 Ebay is NOT the same.
1) Ebay has no quality control/assurance of goods. If you buy a character there and its not what was stated in the ad, its your own fault.
2) CCP get no income from the Ebaying of an account. (They might however get a lot of complaints from scammed buyers etc, which is not the responsibility of CCP)
The demand from players for the Timecard-for-Isk trade is obvious.
Edit: Clarification |

Technically they aren't quite the same. You can't (directly) make money off of this approach.
CCP have never been as active in punishing the purchasers of isk, and as far as I can tell, the players haven't really demanded it.
I'm disappointed that we don't get to see people scammed this way though. I have a rather flexible attitude to it otherwise.
This isk sellers in this case are those who are accepting the time cards. If you know who they are and really dislike them, put them on your KOS list and share their names on eve community sites.
This sort of behavior isn't going to harm game development funding, and I couldn't care less what market adjustments may or may not occur.

Have anyone heard the story of boiling a frog? If you put a frog in boiling water, he will jump out immediately; but if you put it in cold water and slowly warm it up, the frog will feel a bit uncomfortable but it is not too hot to make it jump out right away, then the heat go up until the frog is boiled and ready to serve.
I kind of have the same feeling to this matter -- it is the approach of facing the need than to banish it.(As Deja has mentioned in one of her posts)
While making isk-dollar trade legal is too wild, as it does not only break community standard(EULA) but also disappoints a lot of players and quite possibly make them quit. It might also make a great negative impact to game world as many players feared. However, by going through GTC trade route, it will not only test the idea of legalizing isk-dollar trade on live server, but also tests the community response to it. Apparently it is not as abused as isk-dollar trade and not many players are quitting because of it.
I am guessing after a while, when the isk-GTC trade is stablized, and has shown with no/minimal negative impact to game world, some more direct methods might be introduced, to provide more convenience and security to isk trade market.
After all, there is not enough previous examples to learn from. Having cigarettes being the positive example and <some other drugs> being the opposite, who can tell what will happen by legalizing isk-dollar trade ? ------------------------------------------- "Death is just the beginning..." |

Maybe finally a change of the game rules, because people who loose a lot of $$ in form of game currency file a lawsuit ?

CCP don't have to make money from people selling GTC for isk, as the GTC will replace payment through other means, it just means that they'll get the cash sooners rather than later.
The whole cycle of buying GTC for ISK then ebaying the GTC for cash means that you can get gametime cheaper from isk farmers than from CCP (is you pay real money), this to me show the thing is getting out of hand.
Nooby get an account and GTCs, sells GTCs to ISK farmers and buy himself a character and stuff with his real money, jumping ahead of other (non-rich) players. The isk farmer makes money, the noob gets ahead.
CCP won't make money out of this unless it leads to more accounts being created, and for every new macro/farming/rich boy account you lose an old player or two.

Only lamers want this **** legalised, who cant play the game properly and feel the need to cheat, thus exploiting this to buy ISK.
CCP is not better either if they wanted to do it as a service they could cash in the ISK and give game time in return, but no they cash in the $$$s and mess up their own game. You guys started as visionaries and now u turned greedy like SOE
About ppl quiting the game, I know a ton of ppl that quit recently just cause of this and I was thinking very long 2 days ago when renewing the subscription on my 2 accounts; I proceeded in the hope that CCP sees their error and bans this in the coming days.
In the past if u wanted to achive something you would join/make a corp, form up a team and play the game to accomplish your goals, now you just need to sell couple time cards.
CCP dont you see that this kind of player will also get bored of the game very quickly, but I guess until you realised that the real players will already be gone..
