I've been reading the various posts and witch hunting going on lately. I'm against farming and macroing but it got me thinking to look at Ebay.
A quick scan shows roughly 30-50 BILLION up for sale at this particular time. That's a lot of isk. One seller had 5 Billion in 1 chunk for sale. Further looking shows
Sellers:
US 10 China 8 Canada 4 Romania 2 Australia 1 Estonia 1 France 1 Sweden 1 Uk 4 Netherlands 2 Germany 2 Spain 1 Latvia 1 Russia 1 Iceland 1 ( A low level DEV possibly? )
Its a lot of isk, some of it from macroer's but I wonder if it also comes from unscupulous players with deep pockets who stay quiet in the background or become vocal in the forums demanding action against macroers.
Or maybe its a fat corps CEO or directors skimming the corp accounts. Not like its never been done in RL is it?
Another thought- Maybe that macroer you tried talking to who doesn't understand english very well and types chinese lives in London, New York or anywhere else but China and can't order a chinese fortune cookie in chinese, or maybe he does live in China.
Point being- never take anything at face value especially in this game or on the internet in general. I could type in a bunch of phrases in various languages and most would assume I'm from that country

I think that allowing the sale of isk and mods etc. actually improves the game. I believe it levels the playing field between casual and power gamers. Also, the added economic benefits to the players can make it profitable to play eve. I think they should lift the restrictions in respect to this type of activity.

Perhaps its an indication of the level of frustration of the playerbase.
Should we talk about people that hide in noob corps to avoid wardecs instead?

CCP plays the game, reads the chat, and knows how many people that unsubscribe/subscribe to the game on a monthly basis. You cannot seriously believe that you know something they don't.
And on the note of war declarations, people can kill me and anyone else just fine without war (re: kestrel surprises), so please go take your inflamatory comments elsewhere. Also, I'm neither an Ebayer, nor a macro'er, or a twink, or a noob, I am a newb, a miner and person who has better things to do that worrying about what others do with their so-called digital property.

Its always easy to accuse all macroers are chinese General Racist Kira. This is how the US or the UK or the LOL allies do the tricks to accused the middle-east in possession of the MWD, n messed up innocent civ lifes.
I suggest Genreal Racist Kira go dip your head in the toilet bowl n flush all the junk out of your skull. Its refreshing TBH.

I can buy a parrot and teach it to repeat what I say, are you going to add anything to this discussion or just throw around baseless insults in a vague attempt to feel like you've accomplished something?

The point being made in your quote of me was that anyone can type anything and most of the gullible people will believe it. All you have to do is type Chinese to get players to believe your a Chinese macroer or any other language for that matter.
Obviously you misunderstood the post. The other posts consistently blame Chinese macroer's for all the isk selling. All you have to do is go look at Ebay and as I pointed out- yes some isk sellers come from China but most from Europe and North America. Nothing racist about it- I personally think these last are long existing players cashing in.
Before going to look for racists under every rock, please check the mirror first.

Uh, real life politics don't have anything to do with this thread! Ebaying is BAD. I've seen it destroy games before EVE and I know it may just be able to do it here. (However, fortunately, EVE has a far more complex market driven by more player interaction; supply and demand apply here. Flood the market with too much trit and profits dry up.)

DAMN!! You got to it before I could. Hey there is the rumor of a guy putting a AB (Jato) on a GTO somewhere in New Mexico back in the 50's. They found him and the car in pieces spead over 2 miles. Fo'reel dude!

Yes. Not all people using Macros are e-bayers, they are just the most visible and obvious (usually Asian) and attract the most Vitriol. It's the quiet ones you have to watch. It makes more sense for e-bayers to macro in order to be able to afford a nice Tech II BPO - much less effort to produce/sell popular items for ISK than to go through the humiliation of mining veldspar in Amarr.
However, we are speculating.

There are people who train up barge miner characters on alt accounts and sell them. What you could be seeing is an entire pirate corp's alts mining to pay for their losses.
Please don't turn this crap into a witch hunt. Not every bunch of miners is macroing, evn the ones with stupid names.

oh, excuse us for actually caring. You're finding the threads boring? trivial? You'd rather see people accept the cheating because its convenient? You're the sort of person who sits silent when someone gets mugged in the bus seat next to you. Thanks for your insights Tar. I was just thinking to myself about how this problem could be solved if CCP actually sold items and then you came along with your wrong theory and I was totally blown away by it's obvious utility.

Usually how chinese in game currency selling companies work is they will have their "official" HQ in america or some other country but in reality its just 1 or 2 people maintaining their website and doing customer service, while the actual workers/macroers are in internet cafes in China.
Some, eventhough they are based in US and other countrys, dont try to hide the fact that they are indeed working from out of China, but most DO try to make their business look like it is a brittish/canadian/american organization. How do I know this? Trust me. I know.
Why dont americans and euro people sell isk much? Simply because the pay out sucks for us. but in places like China, where computers are easy to get a hold of but their currency is weak compared to puonds and dollars, it makes perfect sense to work mining ice in EVE instead of mining coal URL for 1/4th price. The GoldenRatio > All. |
