In this batch of new ships was one ship that caught my eye, not because of the abilities, the new stats, but by a name and a pretty new shade of pink... The Eris Yes, the new gallente interdictor must be named after the one and only Eris Discordia, local forum moderator and all around flyer of pink ships. Also ships can still be renamed when they actually hit tq. The dread in my sig is indeed a Rev and I haven't won EVE until we have <i> that</i> shade of pink in the game. Oh, and I hope that's Roden Red they'll be using, and not the dull red of the Crusader or Enyo. It's a kind of warm red with a hint of orange in it (atleast that's the way my monitor shows it to me). It's not pink, but close enough for me. So. When are these forums going live in game?

She took that name from that source probably - the ship name might be based simply on that mythology, although a decision to actually use THAT name might have been influenced by her presence. Just so you all know, Eris is a name that has existed for 2500-300 years :) Save Darwinia!

It is just the fact that these names happen to have roots in Latin, as do so many other words found in many languages. The main reason is that they have, usually, appropriate or cool meanings in English. With so many ships and so many names it wouldn't be hard to draw any number of conclusions as to the origin of each name and its meaning.
