For example, i was messing around with my fans this morning - never a good idea when youve been up for 20 hours - and, for some reasons, i was doing it with the pc running.
And would you know it, as i was moving my blower fan to another slot, it shorted something on the soundcard, and the box shut down. Cue panic, cold sweats, cursing, etc.
Flip switch on the back, quick prayer to divine being in general, flip back, touch power switch. It boots. Im here listening to music through the very same card, thinking of divine intervention 'n stuff.
I wont be doing that again for sure... until the next time i do it.
Anyone else have dome something equally stupid and the rig lived? ------------- Where are the named 800mm Plates and Mega Ions, CCP?

Had a few close shaves with my lappie and spilt drinks - one of my oldest friends was spilling 1 drink/week near his or other people's laptops for a few months, so he was strictly forbidden from putting glasses on the table - he had to put them on the floor.
I believe he spilt a beer and 2 whiskyes into his, 2 beers into his gf's, and still managed to spill a glass of water on mine - thankfully it was closed at the time.
The man's a walking catastrophe, i swear. >_>; ------------- Where are the named 800mm Plates and Mega Ions, CCP?

Was messing around with another hard drive, and for some reason was hooking it up with the computer running... yes, not the brightest thing in the world to do. Slipping, I mis-enter the power connector for the hd, and my computer died. Results? Well, gonna be a new motherboard. _______________________________________________

I have had my share of disasters with my computers. One of the worst was when I spilled coke all over my laptop... But after some quick hosing, disassembling and drying the computer still worked fine, although the keyboard is still a bit "sticky", should disassemble it again some time and wash it with demineralized water...
Another time was trying to plug a video-cable into the tv-out jack on my graphics-card, when I suddenly remembered that I hadn't fastened the agp-card to the casing, but too late. A high *****ing noise and everything went black. Not a good thing when you know you are low on cash, and therefore can't afford a new graphics-card or motherboard... But amazingly the machine worked just fine after fastening the graphics-card again :D

I once was stupid enough to switch my computers power supply from european to american power... It blew up After a new case pc worked like normal again... Never going to do that again though. The sudden bang and the sparks and smoke is terrifying.

One of the most foolish things one could ever do. One of my girlfriends asked me to help her PC run faster, I mentioned spyware removal.
She said do it! so I ran spybot 1.4 and ad-aware SE and removed all the spyware from her PC.
She comes back it me with Godess Damn it! Why doesn't my AoL IM work anymore? I explained it was the evil gateway to Spyware hell. She still wanted it back rather than the free and spyware free trillian client.

Once wired two of the +12V rails together by accident, turned PC on, huge blue spark, died.
Amazingly, untied the two rails and it rebooted fine, although my MoBo died a few months later. (BP6)

surely doing that would do nothing? surely wiring a +12V with something a lot lower than 12V would make bang bang? eg, my car blew a fuse as made me panic cuz i must have touched a +V with a 0 or -V.... :-S
