Why can't you fly with your cursor keys? I think that's really a -point in the game. It would be great if you had to aim by yourself and fly by yourself.
What is your opinion about this?

OK if you're up against half a dozen undemanding NPCs. Not OK in a laggy fleet battle.

Personally i think controlling the aiming yourself would be very difficult when it comes to pvp, especially in larger battles, or when you're trying to zoom round someone at thousands of m/s or whatever it is.

personally i would like to see a fly-by-waypoint method whereby using the tactical overview you can create a waypoint and your ship will fly towards that point then stop, if you could quickly link many points you could create a complex manouver that your ship will follow.
Would make interesting options for fleet battles where you want to keep your ships moving but not orbating a far away target which would disperse your group and would allow all the amature eve flimakers some extra tools to work with.

Don't think it realy does for me anymore.
Their was a time when i thought eve would be much better with a freelancer/iwar2 style control.
But for eve and what it is, just wouldn't suit tbh. ----------- When they asked me if i knew you, id smile and say you were a friend of mine.

flight controls, such as those in STAR TREK BRIDGE COMMANDER would be excellent. Its quite an old game, bit poor on graphics, but the gameplay is awesome and i suggest a few people pick it up to see what im talking about. :) The tactics that it allows for with shields and manual ship manuevering are awesome, and I would very much like to see this in EVE... but i doubt I ever will... -- Gothikia |

No.
EVE is much more like Homeworld, than like Freelancer or Elite, in terms of combat.

Eve is an MMO, not a space flight sim/space shooter. No further explanation required. Combat is calculated, not feed by user input.

in my humble opinion...
if you want freelancer, star trek controls, or whatever , please go play those games, it might work well in those games, but not really here.
carebears, quit trying to dumb down eve! go away!

Having just spent over an hour firing expensive moon probes at tiny little moons I would *really* like a slightly more sensitive control system. ------

I don't want Eve to be a FPS, I just want better control options. I'm sick of clicking on where I want to go and seeing my ship either not respond or veer off the wrong way.

What I think could work to help slightly with navigation is this.
Use the WASD keys to pan the camera left/right/up/down.This way you not panning the view with mouse and then putting mouse in center of screen anmd double clicking.....will be more intuitive to pan with keys and click where u want.

I don't think more control could hurt. EVE's not a flightsim, to be sure, but among other things your distance to target and your angle/transverse velocity have a quite major effect on how easily someone can target you with certain weapons, especially larger turrets. I'd like it to be possible to more effectively use a light ship's maneuverability vs a larger ship's turrets.
With finer control would come more effective tactics.
