So me and my friend have been playing DUST 514 for a little over a year, a couple of months ago we decided to explore the heavens after we got bored with planetary conquest and FW DUST 514 side. Out of the blue one veteran with a very interesting employment history and a 1.5 billion bounty declares war on our 2 man corp. Seeing that we stand no chance against him, we decided to leave the corp until this storm passes, we can still manage the corp on dust side, though in a very limited way. My question is, why would a vet spend 50 million to declare war on total noob nobodies? am I missing something? is there a tricky new eden ploy at play here ? please explain to me.
p.s. We're not avoiding PvP, we actually were preparing to start FW this week, and get to experience PvP with someone our size. |

How old was this character?
That bounty tells us nothing about what type of character it is, or how big of a corp declared the war.

"Veterans" often prey on newer, less experienced players for easy kills and laughs. They declare war so they may fire on your ship freely without consequence. While it sucks, it is perfectly acceptable by in-game rules since you forsake the newbie protection when you join your first player corporation.
Very few of them will expect anything but one sided fights.

If you play it smart a wardec is really nothing, just make insta undock safespots and bounce spots on gate and even an older player will have trouble unless he is in a super fast locker. They key is to avoid him until he makes a mistake, then you can blap him and make him look foolish. I once podded myself by blowing a huge fart. |

Here is what you could have done: Sought help from other, more experienced players. There is an ally system that allows you to bring in any other corporation or alliance into your war on your side in 4 hours at no cost, the aggressor in a war has no approximate tool.
If you can't figure out how to leverage the massive mechanical advantage the game gives you to offset the fact that the aggressor can pick his target to your advantage you deserve to lose your war.
But yeah Cannibal Kane is not someone you want to try and take on without at least direction from someone who know what they're doing. |

the venture bit was sarcasm on the ridiculous attitude of some experienced players (like the second post). That even if I told them "but i only can fly frigates for now" they'd answer "even ventures can be used in pvp." I intend on using a punisher for FW, while fighting on the ground DUST 514 side for the same districts.
On the ally system, I would like to know more about it please. Point me in the right direction.

Not going to happen. You came from Dust where there are matches set up to be "fair". That's not the EVE way. I seriously doubt Kane picked you guys out of the blue and he's not invulnerable to a trap...that's a smart and tough customer you locked horns with but fighting him will teach you a lot in a short amount of time.

It is possible for CEOs and Directors in corporations and members of the Executor corporation in alliances to "Offer Assistance" to a corporation that is at war. They can do that from either the wars tab of their corporation window, from the war history tab of your corp/alliance info or just from a straight link to the war report. The group sending the offer can specify a reason and if they want isk in exchange for joining. The first ally to join the war costs nothing except any fee the ally wants, the second costs 10 million, the second 20, the third 30 etc.
When you get an offer the CEO/Directors will get a notification about it at which point they have 24 hours to accept the offer before it expires. You can also request assistance from the war tab of the corporation window if you have the appropriate roles, but that doesn't really do much.
The primary use of the Ally system is to provide a more structured way to hire mercenaries and to more easily facilitate different corporations/alliances cooperating for the purpose of mutual defense.
Basically if you know people who are willing to help you, or you can pay people to be willing to help you, you can get assistance in your wars with very lit. |

Lot's of bored players do this. I love eve and love the consequences but I do feel bad for the low end corps that are just learning and get war decced by top end pvpers. It is quite stupid. |

I dont know Kane personally or have had any interaction with him beyond seeing the name here and there, but from the little i have seen I'm tempted to say that you (or your friend) most likely said something in local, on the forums, in a chat or whatever that rubbed him the wrong way or made him feel the need to "teach you a lesson".
But it is also fully possible that he just got bored, saw one or both of you flying around, went trough a list over corporations who had offices in a certain station, picked your name from local, from the recruitment tool or whatever.
The point is, we cant know the exact reason, only he will. And chances are you will never know exactly why, and you will have this happen again. You need to find ways around it, or learn to deal with it. For now leaving your corp works, but further down the line you might want to either fight back, get friends to help you, hire mercs, or let the aggressors be bored camping the station your in while your afk playing another game for a week. Correction, Dust doesn't have matches set up to be fair, if you start a new character in dust you get one game mode only called academy, once you have more than 2 million Skill Points or more than 10,000 War points it disappears from your playlist and gets replaced by the normal game modes, where you can use whatever gear you want, nothing limits you but your CPU, PG, and isk wallet.
And yes we own districts, planets, and a constellation in Molden heath. I don't think we're beat on this side, this is just me and 1 friend playing around with eve for the first time. My DUST 514 corp do have a proper EVE side alliance and coalition that I don't want to be involved with just yet, main reason being I am still enjoying the magical feeling of a new world with endless possibilities, the relaxing feeling of the beautiful music coupled with amazing visuals on mining trips, or the excitement of my first ninja salvaging adventure where a myrmidon shot and almost killed me for salvaging his mission wrecks, thanks to CONCORD I ended up salvaging his myrmidon's wreck too...something old players forgot.
I don't want to rush to null sec life just yet, I want to romance EVE before I bend her over and take her. |

I may be drunk atm but I would like to point out one thing. You own frakk in MH. MH belongs to Eve players, to R1FTA, to 7/2, to THC2 to name a few entities. You are just ground worms without any meaning and significance. CCP may give you 3rd rate shooter and promise shinies but for now you mean nothing to us.
Newbies are easy prey but we owe them nothing. Some help them, some squish them - that's the way of Eve. Learn it fast and deal with it. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

Who owns the all the districts of all the temperate planets in MH ? It is decided by DUST players, not EVE pilots.
You call DUST 514 a third rate shooter on year one, GameRankings gave EVE 74% and Metacritic gave it 69% ranking on year one, look at EVE now, and imagine what CCP can do with dust down the road.
Though now that I am a pilot in space, I have to agree with you dust players do feel like ground worms. Just like how eve pilots seemed like gods when I was just an infantry....until I got to experience first hand how many are grieving A holes, few are decent. |

If you've just started playing Eve you have no business running your own corp. Just because you can train the "CEO" skill doesn't mean you're qualified to do it. Drop the corp and go back to NPC corps. Then find a corp run by pilots qualified to do so and learn from them. Your alternative is to have Canniable Kane blow up every freakin' ship you undock until you quit. They guy is a monster. A monster a more experienced CEO with more than two pilots in corp might be able to deal with, but not you guys.
As for why? Why not. Wardecs are fun. Hunting pilots down and blowing them up is fun. Could be other reasons.. maybe someone doesn't like you and paid Kane to hunt you. Or he just saw you flying around in your newbie corp and thought he'd introduce you to some emergent game play. Heck, ask him. He's actually a pretty nice guy... Just a nice guy who wants to blow you up. I have 5 different chars that I play. This may be my main, or maybe not. I have no idea. |

its probably not the case but consider that the motives for the war could originate in dust. i declared war on the Zion TCD guys at the start of the year as a way to welcome some of our dust rivals at the time into the world of eve, most here wont know who they are but you might. it took them a while to figure out where the war came from and was fun giving our rivals a rough time by catching them out of their element. |

You guys got a tough draw there. Kane will mess up your week. If you bring in allies then Kane and Stone Cold will bring out their latest Somali U class to make you and your allies look stupid. Have you ever seen some of those _real_ whines, a la "omg our peaceful corp of miners got wardecced by this uber veteran, EVE is so unfair CCP fix it", or even better "CCP this game is unbalanced, I know it because I am experienced player being in WoW for whole 5 yrs, now immediately do this and that to fix your game"? Hrmmm, should add another step at some point about finding an experienced player corp to join that is cool with nubs. Maybe next time. |
