I beg to differ.
To the OP, he should have just blown you up, podded you, and checked the can. He was doing you a service giving you a chance to pay. However, pirates arent omnisicent, we dont know how your fitted, we dont know what your carrying. We have to make a guess. I only offer ransoming as an option if the victim asks ME if they can pay or if the situation is under control and a ransom is likely to pay more than the loot from their ship. Of course smacktalk or attempts at trickery result in a swift exectution. That said, keep up the good spirit and do explore low sec. You'll learn to be 10x the player most of those hiding in high sec empire are in 1/10 the time.
Like pirates don't hide in numbers now right? *cough* You don't know what they have because you don't fit to see what they have. Lot of useless kills when something could of been made. Real smart I commend you.

Originally by: Kay Brack I'm trying out the game and it's pretty interesting. I am about 8-9 days old and am getting some kicks out of mining in 0.4 space. I was otw to grab a secure can and got caught by a maller pirate in in my industrial. The pirate messages me and says 5 million or i blow you up. I told the guy the ship is only worth 200k and he/she blew me up then scrambled the pod. He then says pay up or ill blow up the pod and i'm actually laughing IRL going OMG NO i have to buy another clone at 70k. So other than the time lost it a great learning experience.
I guess my question is are all pirates that stupid or did i just meet the short bus pirate ?
When a player creates an alt they have to stop training their main. One way to make it easier is to plug in a bunch of implants. A decent lvl 4 mission runner can easily afford to plug their alt with five +3 implants, total cost of about 200 million.
Ironically if alts were removed new players would be a hell of a lot safer - in low sec, and 0.0.

Sorry if i offended you. I personally think there are pirates in this game but the one i met hardly fits that catagory. My definition of a pirate would be a ruthless person who's moves would involve calculated attacks to make money.
If you want to kill PC's without defences just do it but hiding behind the name of "pirate" is like a bank robber wannabe killing homeless people in alleys.

Pirates are greed driven, lust whoring swashbuckling timber shiverers who'd kill a puppy if it was looking at her wrong. They drink rum, curse alot and in general have a fantastic time trying to make a living.
What with all the rum, STD's(natural for a sailor, compounded by being a pirate), and fighting, I'm surprised pirates are cognizant enough to even consider ransoming.

Originally by: Kaspari he may of asked for a high ransom just for the hell of it, not realyl caring if it was payed or not..similar to the way i recently ransomed a corp for 80 mil..my actions wernt for the ISK, but for the fun..if they had payed it would of been a juicy bonus..if they hadnt..i would of carried on enjoying myself.
But most people will not pay ransom on the principle of it (the amount of times ive seen that given as advice is unbelivable)..then they complain that people just blow them up at gates with no ransom demand..what do they expect?
I cant believe I am gonna agree with this guy (nothing to do with our current "situation") but I find that he has a good point here. If ppl dont pay the ransom then the pirates will just gate gank as the only way of "pirating" available to them.
Further to this I would pay the ransom if it is reasonable but if not, then either expect a fight or me running like the scottish football team in the fa cup with my tail between my legs. (no offence intended to our jock friends)
Apart from that I have visited low sec space on a nnumber of occasions and have gotten out unscathed (luck or skill I dont know) good nonetheless.
All the best ThaMa.

Sounds like standard procedure.
Warp in, lock you down, ransom ship. Refused.
Destroy ship. Ransom pod. Refused.
Destroy pod. Pick up salvage.
Wham bam thank you ma'am and now you're at your clone umpteen jumps away and gonna spend the next couple hours buying a new ship, outfitting it, buying a new clone, and flying back to where you were with a little more wariness than you did before.
I'm not sayin you should be bitter about your loss. Just take it as a lesson learned, this is how most pirates operate, this is what you can expect, and be a little more careful next time.
You know when you have 100 mil worth of implants in your head, or a Nav Raven worth 4 bil, you're gonna WISH someone offered you a ransom before snuffing your life.
Sounds to me like you were the one who rode the shortbus kid.

i started eve with a coupel friends, all started playing at the same time. we started off in low sec, Nalvula to be precise. Was a good time to learn eve and how to dodge pirates etc because if you die... you lose nothing. im more scared of low sec now than i am of 0.0
Keep going, learn how to dodge pirates... maybe one day you wont need to dodge them and you will blow them up or if you prefer, join them and blow other people up

Just remember the golden rules - A. You'll die alot, so be prepared with backups B. Don't bite off more than you can chew - go for easy targets C. Don't talk smack, ever
I was able to pop a ferox with less than 400k skillpoints in a rifter. So can you! http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=254908

Funny thing indeed, i see pure piracy yay and nobody saying yeah we hunt pirates for a living, the game should say, Play eve where we suck money from the people who worked for it.
i guess that is the idea of CCP that after all we are paying them for a game every month and hence they logicly will thing they want to give away theyr money. personaly i like good games and i am think of it like paying cable for entertaiment.
anyways just blowing some steam, hope piracy find its karma and leave ppl who is trying to have fun to have a good time playing.
problably the best idea would be that after certain lvl or experience like in diablo that u need to be at least lvl 9 to engage pvp. that sounds good idea, and not having alt chars i guess and skill training while they are in low sec that would work awsomely. i mean for everything there is a way around it. if u keep people crowded and only in 1 spot the fun goes away really fast.

That would be horrendus. That wouldn't be eve. The whole point in EVE is for it to be one big system, in which the rules apply equally to everyone. So unlike some wow/diablo clone, in EVE a noob with the correct setup can kill a player with 10x as many skill points. And also you can keep yourself out of pvp easily enough if you don't want to do it. ------------- Order of the Wombles: Recycling those untidy modules on your ship.

ok i say this now from exper in starwars galaxies, where there was a FORCED PVP system, where a bounty hunter could hunt player jedi. i had both jedi and bh alts on same server, and enjoyed the attacks on my jedi by other bh and vice verser. this always caused problems between players and (so-called)griefers, also dev problems from the whining. THEY COMPLETEY REMOVED ALL PLAYER BH'ING FROM GAME.
devs have nice nerf bats, that tend to be used when too much whining happens.
sow the seeds you mean to reap!!!
