Edited by: Angus Tadj on 04/12/2005 23:53:01 The description of these T2 Transporters states that they're the fastest type of industrial available. They're just brilliant! I've just recently trained myself up to jump in one of these and the Gallente Viator has almost become my ship of choice nowadays.
I'm probably best described as a hauler by trade as that's what I do the most of, shifting goods from region to region. I've used Frigates for their sheer speed, bouncing off the gates at some ~2600m/s depending on config, but as my available cash reserves have increased I've outgrown their cargo space for certain goods. I moved onto Destroyers and they were excellent, with good cargo space albeit not as fast and a bit sluggish, but all-round a decent ship for moving some stuff around and visiting different systems.
The Iteron IV was my favourite hauler for a while as I could get that moving fairly fast ... until I jumped into my first Transport Ship, a Viator. I've also got myself an Occator but I've hardly used that thus far, simply because the Viator is just a super 'little' ship.
Being able to easily fit a 10MN MWD to it (with a RCU) and some nanofibers sees me hitting the gates at some 1600m/s, and I'm still accelerating, still some way off my top speed of about 2100m/s. And with a Giant Secure Can internally, it's cargo capacity is really useful. So much so in fact I've seen my Destroyer getting much less use these days.
So far my trips around low-sec have been uneventful so I've no experience of its damage absorption capabilities. No doubt I'll encounter some friendly lads out there soon enough to find out... How do you kit out your blockade runner for such encounters?
Anyway, top banana indy, like this one a lot. Must see how I get on in my Occator next I think.

The small transport ships are pretty good with their speed, agility, and builtin warp stabilization, but the larger kinds (Occator, Impel etc.) are worthless. Although great tanks, once locked down, it's just a matter of time. Although they can carry a lot of cargo, they become almost slower than freighters. Given price and skills, a second tier transport ship needs to have 75-100K or so max cargo with good expanders and advanced skills to have a real niche. Or give them much better agility.

Well, I've loaded the Occator with cargo expanders and its time to warp speed is just horrible. I shoved it back in the hanger and re-equipped the Iteron Mark V instead. That's about the extent of my experimentation thus far.

I dont know what you're smoking Syris, these ships are awesome, I got mine going 3600m/s top speed & with 2 stabs on I still go over 2500m/s. Even more impressive is i've never lost one, ever. Now i am talking about the prorator, which to me is infinately better than the viator. Way more agile & fast. Anyways, peace out.

Seems to me the new interdictors might make very nice fast small cargo runners.
For example the Eris (gallante version) 400 m3 cargospace 435 m/s base speed 4 lowslots Enough grid to fit either a 1mn mwd or 10mn ab.
With good skills 4x local hull nanofibers and the 1mn mwd they will do 3572 m/s, with 10mn ab 3039 m/s.

prowler is fun. over 3km/s with mwd. power diag and local nano in the low. mwd/med boost II/shield boost amp in mid. cloak in high.
it is a really fast little ship and am very happy that it have shield tank. can tank 1 inty pretty much forever.
nice thing about the mastodon (the big one) is that its tank is even better. generally fit it out w/3 expanders and 2xlocal nanos. does about 900m/s with mwd, though it take a while to get there. with that config holds about 11k m/3 + 2700m/3 (from 3 cans), not bad for something fast that get into warp alright (with those 2xnanos). mastodon tanks even better... 2 intys is not a problem with this one.
reason keep mentioning intys is that they seem to be the hauler attackers of choice in 0.0, which is the only place that weirda fly these regularly. -- Thread Killer (attempt to train verbosity from 4 back down to 1 -- failed) <END TRANSMISSION> |

From what I have found, the problem with the blockade runners is not their speed or resistances, but their ability to actually get away from something. If you have 4000 shield and 70% resists or 100 shield and 30% resists you will still die to any ship that can pin you and call for friends. Not that these ships should be invincible, but for 30+ million and with the sole purpose of breaking through camps it should have +4 warpcore strength by default. +2 isn't enough as just one inty usually runs a -2, some even run two -2s.
If I want to defend against that it is actually easier to just run up in my battleship, since it fits 7 stabs and can tank too. max the crane can do is +4, and that's if I leave off a microwarp drive and hardeners due to fitting constraints. =/
aside from that blockade runners are amazing for blowing past stuff hanging around a gate. it's the alignment on the other side that kills you =/

I love my Viator, and use it constantly. Usually with WCS in the lows, 10mn MWD and cap recharger in mids, along with a cloak in the highs.
As for the Occator.. I love mine and it still sees alot of use. How many other haulers can indefinently tank a BS? I use Cloak, 10mn AB2, Eutectic Recharger, T2 med repairer, 3 x hardners, 2 x cap relays.. Everything runs for ever and it has tanked BS, multiple times. Its also pretty damn fast in that configuration.

without: blockade runner
simple as that.. ____________ The cargo bay is overloaded and cannot be made to fit Expanded Cargohold I. It is currently only capable of fitting 8772.12 units and it is currently jammed full with 9558.33 units. |

The funny thing is that the built in +2 warp strength bonus looks great, but then you look at the amount of low slots and realize that they are basically what is left over after fitting two stabs otherwise. I've been told Deep Space Transports can reach fairly high speeds with a few nanos fitted.

Yeah, a corpmate got a Prowler some time back and she's been praising it so much that even I (a combat pilot) am starting to thing about training for Indy V. Apparently those things can *move*, and are sturdy as hell. Just the thing for courier missions or low-sec transport.

The low slots/warp bonus aren't the issue so much as the fact that you align for warp like a frigate. Love my Prowler!

Blockade runners are actually underpowered. The reason is that you can take the larger industrial, toss in a few WCS and nanofibers, and have a ship with a better tank, that does the same job with a larger cargo space.

Have you actually flown a blockade runner? Because based on what I hear, they are much, much faster and more agile (and warp faster, too) than the big version fitted with some nanofibers. As in: frigate speed fast and agile. Sometimes that's a lot more valuable than the extra cargo space.

Viator > Occator with 6 nanos and MWD
Mass and agility is a lot better on the blockade runners. Prowler is the fastest and nicest of them all IMO, very quick into warp and with very decent cargo space. ___________________________________

I fly a the mastadon and prowler in 0.0.
The mastadon can easily tank 2 bs's while getting into warp. If there is just one I ussually sit there and talk smack before even turning on my shield booster.
The prowler doesn't handle that kind of fire power so well but it is through the gate and to the next one so quickly I don't even get to armor.
I have testes both of these ships many times and they are impressive. There are a couple of set ups that under the correct conditions would stop me cold. I rarerly can be caught in those circumstances.

While I think the deep space transport is worthless, I think CCP has done an overall excellent job.
Don't try to run a blockade in a deep space transport. Its not working. I fly in 0.0 so no room for anything but WCS in low. Even with 5xWCS mastodon will get to warp so slow that you will be locked down anyway. OR they wont bother to scramble you and just keep ramming you with their inties. Prowler with +4 WCS still gets to warp durn quick so _all_ the ships don't get a scrambler on you, and you can get off before you get rammed. Its agility is almost equal to a Stabber.
I dont see the point in MWD. It just makes you get locked faster and blows you up like a bullseye. I use AB. I have taken punishment from Tempest short range on a few occasions where they had +5 scramble str! and still got back to the gate.
I think deep space version is best used in Empire...Best part about blockade runner is they hold <5000m3. This means if you want to move large POS guns, youll need one or two expanders. Its always exciting when I put the expanders on :P ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

I've got both, a viator and a occator. The viator goes to warp as fast as a cruiser, not a frigate.

Ok, I'm still only considering training for them, and have no first hand experience. I'm just hearing very good things about the Prowler from corpmates.
Judging by what I head, the blockade runners are great for moving stuff around in 0.0, and for doing courier missions or mission loot pickup. The other t2 indies seem to be mostly good for Empire large-scale hauling, though some people use them successfully in 0.0 -- guess it depends on what sort of gate camps you expect to run into.
In any case, these go on my "should study at some point" list. Along with a zillion other things, sigh.

I've been fitting armor/structural repairers in place of shield augmentation, given the inherent Transport Ship bonuses. Interesting comments on Interceptors ramming to prevent you from warp aligning, I hadn't thought of that one. I daresay I'll have to get into low-sec more to gain some experience of actual blockade running.

I've tried them and love the Crane. The resistances the high base cargo space, and fitting inertial stablizers in teh lows it makes it amazing!

Edited by: James Lyrus on 06/12/2005 00:40:25 I own and love a crane. It'll do 820ms on a 10mn ABII (2 local nanos). I like the caldari transports, because they shield tank. I usually fit a couple of jammers, and maybe a cloak on it. MWD is a bit of a tight fit (base 120pg, so 150 with eng 5)
They're better because they're agile, and have a cruiser sized signature (rather than notably larger on a 'standard' industrial). Which means everyone takes a bit longer to lock, don't hit so hard, and because you're agile and fast, you're in warp before they do.
Lovely ship.
Oh and what Imhotep said about the MWD. Fun for the zOMG zoom factor, but really not a good idea for _actually_ getting into trouble - lost cap and increased sig is a good way to get killed. -- Complaining about the PvPers and Pirates in EVE is like complaining about the mines in Minesweeper. |

Can someone please tell me why the prorator sucks so much??? It has the lowest hauling capcity of the 4 in its class, plus the slowest speed in its class, not to mention also has the least amount of resistances.... (figured by adding all resistances for each ship) I mean why would anyone want to fly such a ship???

What about the crane? It has 4 med slots. It can do alot better than what the prorator can, not only that but it can tank AND have cargo expanders....

The Prorator has it's drawbacks compared to the other blockage runners, but still does the job (running small expensive cargos through low sec) adequitly. The Amarr get the Impel, with it's 7 lows, which I love.

Occator rocks! My rig can carry 34.4k m3 with 3k armor and 3k shield and a 10mn ab2. With instas in low sec this thing is awesome - huge cargo, and tough enough to out-tank a scrambling sentry-tanking Raven in 0.1... I know I did it a few times Shame he remembered to hit the warp button before he popped
Nothing better than naming your Occator as an IT4, getting snared at a low-sec gate camp, and watching the pamper have to warp out while you're still in armor hehe.
Now don't even get me started on using T2 indies as rat-bait... especially in a war... Awesome!
