LOL maybe if ccp took away it's stupid optimal range bonus, we would all just accept it as a dud instead of saying stuff like "it sucks but it's amazing in the hands of a harcore pro" or stuff like that. A nerf would definitly clear up a lot of confusion  .

can someone please calculate the DOT (post RMR) with maxed skills of
4xDual 650mm Autos
4xTorps
3xGyro, 3xBCU (one low RCU)
as many heavy drones as it can field

I'm getting ~900 dps at point blank, with explosive drones t2, the new stacking penalty, maxed skills in 3 skill trees, no speed/sig radius penalty, no flight time related damage reduction (infinite fight time), no reloading.
Armageddon would be just short of ~1000 dps with 3 heat sink t2, ~1036 dps with a 4th heatsink, in similar conditions.
Raven with 6 siege, 3 ballistics and heavy explosive drones t2, would deal ~760 dps. With a 4th ballistic control, ~800 dps.
Tempest with 6 dual 650mm t2, 3 gyro t2 and explosive heavy drones t2 would deal ~775 dps, or ~810 dps with 4 gyro t2.
Edit: I'm not used to the new drone stuffs so this could be slightly off, though i think that i got it right.

i just had some VERY close fights with slothe, my raven vs his phoon. each time i was on <half hull at the end. so i'd hardly say its useless.

I like the phoon. I think it could use a different second bonus, maybe 5% missile ROF. It's a fairly unique ship in slot layout and role, and has a lot o' cool ways to fit it. It also handles almost like a cruiser, and is faster than most hacs. Great for mobile fleets.
Despite it 'sucking' I see tons of them in fleets, particularly small groups.

The obvious reason it's so popular is that it's cheap, yet there is no temptation to cram it into a specific role like a Domi, a Geddon, or a Scorp.
It's just a big ol' Rupture I guess. Very middling in tactics by itself, yet able to wield benchmark mods if it specializes in any particular direction.
This of course is just pure speculation on my part as I've never flown one.

thats funny right there i dont care who you are.. oh and in the right hands the phoon aint easy to gank, ive held off 2 apocs and a geddon in my main characters phoon with 3 of them they couldnt break my tank and i whooped their arses that was with 4 1200mm scouts and 4 arb cruise launchers and a massive armor tank

I 1-v-1'ed Deathspawn666 once when he was flying a typhoon. He'd been using a nosphoon lately, so I just slapped three plates and three hardeners on my AC-tempest and went to town.
I've got to admit, though, that he had a pretty good armor tank on that 'phoon. It lasted for quite a while, but not anywhere near long enough.
