I live in WH space and I would like to set my D-Scan to auto-scan every 5 seconds and display results to overview. As it is tapping that button over and over is very tedious and is taking life from my poor mouse and the scanner window is taking up more of my screen's real estate than I can honestly spare. |

If you can't put forth the effort to click a button now and then while you're doing things, you shouldnt be doing them. You're proposing to make D-scan the same as the overview, just less informative, but always there and updating.
D-scan makes you actually have to be at the PC, doing something, to keep from getting killed. |

Fortunately I have two screens, I am actually mining in a WH right now. Unfortunately, while I am typing this I might miss a cloaked ship before it cloaks at the WH near me.
Expecting 100% attention and pressing a button over and over again is pretty ludicrous. CSM do you think? No matter the changes, high sec people chose the safests. Lots of stick and they will leave. Half the problem is the players in null sec; we do not want to be there with you. |

Maybe a overhaul of the active D-scan. Im glad that the troll who says you if you cant spare the time to do it........... turn auto scan off. I like the idea. |

WH's are supposed to be dangerous, having an automated warning system is just silly. Having that chance of not getting scanned down before cloaking when you start checking out someone's wh makes the hunt more fun, and the carebearing more dangerous (and the payoff reflects that). If you want to catch sight of everything that comes into system, you need to work for it, else they might as well make local work as normal (or some hybrid if you aren't cloaked you're in local). |

How about we just have a giant flashing red sign that says a non friendly is in your WH, his name is blah he's in a drake and this is his fit. Man WH are dangerous ccp made it that way for the reason you can make alot of isk, but to make the isk you have to take risks |

I was thinking about this topic today and realized if u live with another corp get together and agree on an initial to put in ships name that way you know it's a friendly... And about what everyone is saying I agree auto d scan is dumb. main reason being that if ur d scan is scaning every 5 seconds that means a new page pops up and refreshes and stays there for five seconds no change and auto anything makes people lazy next thing u know, u start looking at it every so often and bam you just got blown up for being lazy and not spamming d scan. Anything faster might aswell activate local and start calling uknown space to lowsec hehe |

Where is the difference between me pressing it every 8 seconds and it automatically checking every 8 seconds? You are still going to give my mining barge a hug with your covert ship in both cases, you are probably still going to tackle me and have your fleet warp in.
All that is happening is that I will be less attentive and stop having to press that silly button, over and over again.
WHs are causing D-scan to be used in a way that was not intended. CSM do you think? No matter the changes, high sec people chose the safests. Lots of stick and they will leave. Half the problem is the players in null sec; we do not want to be there with you. |

People are assuming that I DON'T hit the scan button literally every 5 seconds. Many people in my corp have a habit of hitting that scan button religiously.
My corp uses tags to to verify that they are corporate ships as well.
I have had people sneak up on me because wormholes often appear out of range of D-Scan, therefore I have no idea that any danger has become present until it de-cloaks. It is also possible to pop through a wormhole and re-cloack before you pop up on a D-Scan. It's a roll of the dice.
My proposal not the same as local which warns you the moment someone hits system. I'm not asking for anything more advanced other than the auto refresh to save my precious laser mouse, and the option to load the info to overview so i can see my ship and it's epic graphics while I fly it instead of the scan window.
Besides any nitwit can take advantage of lazy pilots by changing the the name of their ship.
My proposal still requires vigilance and intelligence, just less clicky, clicky. |

I agree. Dscan as it is doesn't work very well. For starters, from a role play point of view, its freaking count to potato re7arded. This is the future and I have no way to automate a button without macro cheating or something... And if you are a miner like me, the Dscan will literally destroy your mouse finger by the end of a multi-hour arkanor munch session. any game that requires that level of repetitive tedious monotony has something wrong with it. There is a compromise here. Have the Dscan auto update every 20-30 seconds or so, and keep the scan button for when you feel like being more aware. But keep it off of my overview please. I have more than enough stuff on there already. Scanner window should be separate IMHO... |

In essence, computers and programs are initially designed to do repetitive, boring tasks. And clicking the scan button again and again and again definitely fits the definition.
So there's no reason for any designer not to let that do automatically. Maybe going even a bit further to analyze the results and put up a warning if there's something fishy in them, like a ship not having a certain identification. (for the more technical inclined -- pattern matching of the ships name against a given pattern containing the corp tag) |

I like the idea of D scan automatically updating at a set interval of say 3 times a minute, or even 6 times a minute while i'm mining, gas harvesting, or doing combat sites so I am essentially the hunted.
I'm even ok with the idea of newly scanned objects being highlighted but when I'm hunting can my tiny little probes not show up and give me a chance.
Would that give a better balance between hunted and hunter or would it just be a different balance?
Might stop all the RSI suits from wormholers in the future.
Damn I even mash that D scan button when I'm in hi sec Things can always be improved: the battered Mars Bar, Scotland's other culinary delicacy

Wow, people actually have a problem clicking DScan? I've been doing it so long it's habit now... don't even have to think about it. The most annoying aspect of dscan I've found is when I get to empire and keep clicking it anyhow, seeing it filled with all that mission litter and such.
Seeing a full dscan... it freaks me out. Six months in the hole... it changes a man. |

The scan probe update was very good. it works very well as a long range scanner. Its like something you see in tv shows and movies. its also works well as an in game tool. The D-scan could use a similar update, making it more in depth and satisfying to use. Its not that necessary but theres defiantly room for improvement on the current d-scan gameplay mechanic. It would also be a step in the right direction for ccp. After all the drama about Wis and the nex store it would good move to improve the core gameplay of eve.

No no no bad bad bad!
DScan needs to be a "click" and you get the info RIGHT NOW! Any types of delays, games, dances, recitation of poetry... it can and will kill people.
Dscan needs to remain simple and above all else immediate.

i didnt say anything about how it should be updated, i just said it should be updated. your jumping to conclusions dude. but then again looking at my post i probably was not that clear in the first place.
Any update to the d-scan would work both ways. you need the d-scan for finding the target and detecting incoming targets. In your post you mentioned it as a defensive tool imo is overpowered in that respect. its easier to see an incoming ship or spot scan probes than track someone down. i mean, nine times out of ten you can see a cov ops on the d-scan before it gets its cloak back on after leaving a wormhole. |

If whoever is hunting you actually belongs in a wh, your d-scan probably won't matter a whole lot anyway. I run sites in a loki with the probing subsystem in, means combat scanners can cover the entire system, just ignore all signatures of your buddies etc, click the scan button every time the last one finishes when something new appears run away and investigate.
As far as the of it being a repetitive task, computers are made for repetitive tasks, let the computer do it.... Well what's mining? or missioning, or ratting, or grinding sleeper sites? If your d-scan told you how much damage it did to the interstellar medium each time you clicked would that make it fun? |

The D-Scan could use an update (not just for us WHers) and here's how to do it.
Automatic mode = When set via checkbox, D-Scan cycles every 10 seconds on its own after the first manual scan. Benefit is, if you leave your scanner window open, you'll be able to see new ships pop up on scan if the timing's right. Downside is, if they're a cloaker and it happened to catch them, the readout may auto-refresh and disappear by the time you cancel the auto-mode. You have to un-check automatic mode and then scan to get an update sooner than 10 seconds from last scan. Pressing scan after the first time on auto mode will give you a quick error and tell you how long until the next automatic scan is begun. Also, put a 10 second delay on switching modes so you can't go Manual-Auto-Manual in less than 10 seconds.
Manual mode = Performs identical to current single-mode D-Scan. Useful for 0.0 when scouts want to take a snapshot of an enemy fleet when they're in range and as an override for "I'd really like to check now".
Both require you to be at your computer and paying attention. No extra visual/audio queues to alert you to a ship presence, just an option for an auto-refreshing D-scan with a drawback which is the cycle time. Assault Ships - Retribution Fix and Balancing Proposal for Upcoming 4th Bonus |

So basically you want to add a mode to DScan that is guaranteed to kill people.
Considering it'll only kill those stupid enough to use it... I'm having a hard time objecting. So long as currently functionality remains, that is. Six months in the hole... it changes a man. |
