Lookin2 Myeyes wrote:Just wondering if you take idea requests. If you do I got one for you. The data you have has the Current Corp and Corp history for a character. Say your a member of a corp for a long time and you take a break. you come back everyone is gone, players are blown to the wind. What I was thinking was a "where are they now" kinda sorting. You already have the page for corp former members. What would be great on that page is not just their name but a column for there current Corp. Dotlan does this great for former corps in an Alliance see link below. They list the former Corps but list there current alliance. Now of course you can click on each name and see where they are so the data is there but it would be simpler. Also a alliance column might be good. So each ex-member of a Corp you can see they are in CorpA & AllianceG now. Just an Idea, Fly Safe http://evemaps.dotlan.net/alliance/Important_Internet_Spaceship_League/corporations
Excellent idea! I'm adding this to my list of things to do :)
Captain Thunk wrote:The api function is pretty annoying.
If you're using it, that means you're reading in player names for a corp. Corps with over 200 members known will have 10+ pages. On the 10th page request it triggers your "hammering a website isn't very nice ya know.... please wait 30 seconds" message.
I appreciate the desire to prevent needless scraping of your website, but the measure you've employed is a little too simple and is prone to trigger during legitimate use.
As per our discussion on IRC, the limit has been bumped up from the obnoxiously low 20 characters per page to 200. This should help you, and many others, out immensely!

Use CCPs API for that: http://wiki.eve-id.net/APIv2_Eve_CharacterInfo_XML
You can convert between ID and Name using: http://wiki.eve-id.net/APIv2_Eve_CharacterID_XML http://wiki.eve-id.net/APIv2_Eve_CharacterName_XML
These pages enable you to do everything you asked for and will have the latest values straight from TQ. |

I need info about other characters. I'm analyzing sales, and want to know which alliance, corp and char buys most from my orders. I know char who buy stuff, but want to know more stats about all buyers.

Hi Squizz.
When you search for a character, if the character has recently changed corp does that queue a refresh for the character from the EVSCO api proxy? And if it does, how long does it typically take before the refresh occurs?
And thanks for developing such a great intel service!

If he's using the EVSCO API Proxy, it obeys the cachetimes set by CCP, so no longer than usual But i don't think he is using it. |

Thanks! The skills a character has aren't public information, so I can't link that at all. You might want to check out Chribba's EveBoard service if you're looking for stats on characters.

CCP has no facility that says "this character has just changed corporations, go update them". Therefore I have to blindly do it. The character updates are on a rotating schedule and it could take up to 7 days for a character's information to be updated. Any faster than that and I run the risk of swamping CCP's API servers and Scotty becomes very unhappy with me. http://evewho.com - Alliance and Corporation Member Listings http://evechatter.com - Free Alliance and Corporation forums for all. |

Can you please advise what the "delta" information refers to on evewho? I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die. |

Delta is simply the difference in the number of pilots from 7 days ago. If 7 days a corp had 13 pilots, and today that corp has 18 pilots, then that corp would have a delta of 5.
PS: Added this question to the FAQ too. http://evewho.com - Alliance and Corporation Member Listings http://evechatter.com - Free Alliance and Corporation forums for all. |

First off evewho is dope...
but one thing confuses me:
"How do you determine the ranking for Pirate and Carebear Corporations? The security status of every pilot in the corporation is averaged and then multiplied by the log of the number of pilots of the corporation. corp_security_level = avg(sec_status) * log(member_count)" - quoted from the FAQs
sooo you add the sec statuses up and divide by the number of pilots in corp, then multiply that by the number of pilots in corp?
those two things cancel each other out and you just end up with the total sum of all the sec statuses in corp. unless the "log" is something different. |

Average = add all the sec_status together, divide by the amount. Logarithm is an entirely different beast.
Log(500) is ~6.2 for example.
So if the average sec status is 8, and there are 500 members, the resulting corp security level is 49.6. :) |

Actually, I know why I didn't do this. I don't need to write an API for this since CCP's API already returns it. I'm not a fan of duplicating work.

Some of you may have noticed that performance on EveWho has gone down over the last couple of weeks. The hosting provider I was using is to blame, seems they have finally oversold their servers and EveWho was being negatively affected.
So, it is time to move.
I've just set up EveWho with a new host and have updated the DNS entries. Everything should be rather transparent for you.
Enjoy! Squizz Various projects I enjoy putting my time into: http://eve-kill.net | http://zkillboard.com | http://evewho.com | http://evechatter.com | http://skillq.net |

Awesome tool, I was wondering if I just forgot how to find this, if it was removed or if it was a feature that never existed.
I thought you could search all corps by size from biggest to smallest in one list. I see the top 10, both in alliance and out, but I can't seem to find a way to find corps past those top ten.
Glad your looking for new hosting, this has been an invaluable resource for recruitment and such. |

EveWho has never had the feature to search all corporations by size. I've put some thought into it and it would be just too unwieldy to implement. There are 229k corporations in EveWho's database, imagine scrolling through that list?

EveWho's API and http pages should match. Could you provide links?
Unless you're comparing to CCP's API, in which a corp has 4 members but EveWho only knows about one. In that case EveWho just doesn't know who the other three members are - and until they popup somewhere (see my other posts) EveWho will continue to not know about them. Well I think it was a mix of both sides. If you visit: http://evewho.com/corp/Sacrificium+X
You will notice five members listed, but the member count states four. This is partially what was throwing my code off (while members < totalmembers [...]).
I've temporarily remedied this on my end by adding one to the totalMembers grabbed from your api. The Miner's Creed |

Question regarding the FAQ and hitting the API.
Quote:To help prevent folks from scraping EveWho and causing high loads a policy is in place that allows 10 requests within a 30 second time period. Anything more than this and you'll be shown an error page and forced to wait. We don't mind folks seeking more information, which is why an API is available.
I'm hitting the API once every six seconds, grabbing data on a per corporation basis, but am still getting the "hammering a website isn't very nice ya know" error after about six requests. That's well over the 10 per 30 seconds that the FAQ states.
What are the exact rules on how often one can hit the API? I'd like to remain in the rules. At the moment I'm simply guessing, because the FAQ is no longer accurate. |
