I'm a fairly new player to EVE. After the first couple of weeks it took to get used to the game, I'm starting to wonder if new players are overly gimped?
I'm the type that will avoid PvP and play solo more then not (Doing agent missions and rat hunting). Does this mean I'm pretty much stuck in .5 and higher space forever?
Just looking for your feedback on how new players can expect to survive in Eve with all those that have been playing forever.

Well maybe I should clarify a bit. By avoiding PvP doesn't mean I won't defead myself when the need comes, but I won't go out of my way to look for it either. If that makes sense. I'm shooting for an Assualt ship (wolf). I don't know how well I would survive against most playes in PvP, especially solo.
As for solo, I'm more of an RP'er and I don't join groups (corps/guilds/clans) on a whim. So I may join a corp or even make my own down the road.

Like I said before my goal is a Wolf, which is a Tech 2 Assualt Ship. I'm building this character to be a fighter because I realized, as I learned more about EVE, that this is a game about survival. I also prefer to be fast then slow. My understanding is that with a higher velocity and lower signal a Wolf would be pretty hard to hit by larger ships. This is of course providing I don't get jammed.
Again, my meaning for my question was the fact that I want to survive in EVE if and when I get attacked. I basically will never attack first. And I will do my best to avoid it all-together.
My plan right now is to set myself up to be defensive and destructive. I guess something like a tank.
As for playing solo, I just haven't found the right corp yet that fits me. I actually have an idea for a Minmitar corp, but I'm certainly not ready to take on something like that just yet. Would be nice to make find a couple people to do it with me down the road. I have looked at the options for RP corps already, and I lurk in some of the RP chat rooms. I might actually have a friend or 2 coming to EVE soon as well.
I do have 2 questions though.
-Is all of 0.0 space already claimed for by player corps?
-Do vampire energy systems work on NPC's or just PC's?

A lot of good replies here. I probably should have posted this in the New Player thread. I'm sure a lot of other new players would find this useful.
