No longer accepting a ransom for 500mill this one decided to log-off and let us kill his obelisk :(
How the heck can we pirates prevent people from logging? Or at least... well cash in once they login :)

a real logoff timer whould be implemented.
as in when you do try and log off in space it will say " shutdown starting" and for 5min without any module activation you will be able to click ok and log off.
or maybe the GM's and Devs can make it a "exploit" to do logoffs like people do now and the punishment should not just be a warning but the punishment should be that the ship and all the contents and clone be destroyed by the GM's with no refund and no insurance payouts for the exploiter.
that would stop stupid logouts like this wich is just happening way to often.

Yup, 500m was my shout in local as this obelisk moved slowly through egg... out of every system in eve, this is the one I would choose not to fly my freighter.
Here's a piccy before it went boom

I know these things blow up every day, but just flying them with no instas though low sec seems crazy....

yeah tis really annoying when they log off....one time me and a couple of other guys were camping a gate in 0.0...in jumps a hostile typhoon...we are waiting for him to uncloak... and he dissapears from local and his ship uncloaks so we scramble it...and it stops moving the phoon is nearly into structure and it vanishes into thin air...we was like wtf?? how cud that happen we had 6 points on the phoon and the phoon vanishes before us with. CCP need to make it that if ur scrambled u dont vanish after so mant seconds if u log off. -------------------- Ummm My sig just got podded... kthxbye

I thought this was changed in Cold War: if the PvP timer has been enganged, the ship should not disappear from the system for approximately 30 minutes, whether the pod pilot is online or not. If that ship is scrambled, it should stay where it is for that duration, unless it has multiple stabilisers fitted.

We bumped one at the gate for absolutely ages one time whilst sniping him and the guy didn't log (we ransomed him). Just depends on the lameness/stupidity of the pilot I suppose. ------------- Order of the Wombles: Recycling those untidy modules on your ship.

Just to give you the other side of the coin.
My ISP disconnected for a split second last week. I was on a Gurista Extravaganza. Managed to log back on and I was down to 5% structure.
Somewhere between the two is a compromise.
But unless there are a few of you, you can't make the guy stay up all night while you set about destroying his ship. He may have something else to do. If you haven't got enough firpower to destroy a ship thats scrambled in a few minutes then suppose its tough luck.

I can't say I blame them but it would depend on what cargo they had and how rich they where.
it should also be pointed out that alliances and large corps use alt corps to move their stuff around so you may not actually be aware who "owns" the ship.
A rich corp with 10's of billions of ISK may view the loss as acceptable when faced with funding an enemy corp 500mil.
A small corp with a 1Bil isk ship and 1bil of goods in the hold may take a different view and pay up, thats assuming they could get hold of 500mil in a short space of time.
Or maybe they thought their log off would save the ship and simply took a risk and this time they lost.

There's a bug in the PvP timer system.
If you log off before someone shoots you (i.e. while cloaked), you will disappear in 1 minute instead of 15 minutes. - Proud member of the [23].

Just let ships which are currently locked as a target by another ship stay online when the char logs?
Or even better: Inflict a sec hit onto carebears logging in such situations ^^

No it wouldn't. If you add a timer then people yank their PC's power cord or network/modem cable. If you count every single person who drops off the server as an exploit, then 90% of the people I know would be banned. ****ty net connections, ****ty PC's or Tranq mucking up, are far to common.

The funny thing is that adding a logout timer would probably cause some massive whining from many a-bold pirate too :) At least from recent wars I know a bunch who only like to gank haulers in empire space but log off in a hurry should some armed posse enter the system. The habit isn't a carebear only thing :)

They need to change the way the logout timer works.
People are moving freighters around 0.0 with no escort. I happened across a lone freighte the other day in my vagabond. He logged out when I entered local. I found him at a gate, scrambled him and started firing. He dissappeared in armor after about 30 seconds.
The logoff timer works well if you aggro the target before he logs out. But if the target jumps in, and then logs out you only have 30 secs or something to kill it before it disappears.
If a target is aggro'd after it logs out then it should set the 15 minute aggro timer. This wasn't such a big problem before freighters, but with their high number of HP's something has to be changed. I'm sure ccp never wanted freighters moving around 0.0 safely without an escort.

Same thing happened recenty with a battleship that we found in a belt, he warped off before shots were laid on him (our frigate pilot landed too far off to get a lock) and logged off mid warp. We caught him at the planet he warped to, and after about 30 seconds, he *poof* magically disappears.
Logging b4 aggro is applied = magic escapebutton, but logging after aggro = you stay 15 mins. Should really be fixed cause its way too 'sploitable.

If he was empty, then after insurance and the cost of reinsuring a new ship the 500mil was higher than his cost for letting you destroy his ship.

its amazing that the "****ty networks connections" only happens when they jump into a couple of pirates isnt it. dont be a hipocrit, sure there might be one in 5000 that crashes when jumping in to a couple of pirates but as it is now 4999 logs off before decloaking.
system is seriously flawed.
