Being a part of this universe for a few months and feeling small yet noticable changes to the world (falling low end mineral prices, T2 impact) I wonder what the game was lets say 2 years ago.
What are the most profound differences from days back when 2k users online were considered a record? How the feel of the game has changed?

When there were no highways in empire, 40jumps to get to the next region! Fun.

You couldn't pick how close you wanted to warp to something. It was always right on top of it.

What first comes to my mind is the market interface. The tools available now are incredible.
In the beginning there only was an item list and a map. Red and green dots indicating negative and positive prices. One had to actualy fly to the target system and there search the map again for which station had the demand/supply. 60j/day in vast empty empire space.

Edited by: Reebo77 on 12/12/2005 21:15:53 you could fire on someone in empire space with no concord and no sentry guns life was fun
when a million isk was alot of money!
when cruisers where like the UBER ships and when i first saw one my jaw dropped to the floor.
mining ankor in a 0.4 and they had battleship spawns to come kill you.
NPC bounties where half what they are now.
when killing 1 frig gave you a big sec boost and u could kill a few npc's and be over 1.0 in a day
when loot tables where really bad and u got silly drops, oh wait we still got that
man i miss it all

Just a few things that spring to mind:
Ninja mining Arkonor and Bistot in Empire and getting paid 1024 for Zydrine and 4096 for Megacyte by NPC corps.
No autopilot, and then when the 1st version came out typing "/autopilot on" in chat to get it going.
No highways of any kind, inter regional travel was a real journey.
Very early on CCP added NPC spawns to the gates in lower sec empire, we were all only in frigates at the time and the NPCs were massive cruisers. They toned it down a day or 2 later because no one could move about.
Agents used to be totally useless, unless you were a pirate and could bribe one to boost your security status.
Kestrels firing 4 cruise missiles at once and killing indys in a single volley.
Cruisers firing torpedoes that did splash damage.
Being able to stack modules without a penalty for each additional module. ---------

Oh! DonŠt forget that after a jump you didnŠt exit at the other "side" of the gate, but at some random planet! and not protected by any sentry guns!

The number of people I see in space. Back then almost every 0.7 and under had no one in it. You could rat in a 0.4 and not see someone in local for days..even people passing thru.
When isk meant more. Making 1M isk was a milestone, it was an achivement. I seriously still remember having my first 1M after I bought everything I needed, and for that matter my first 2M.

Uber shield-tanked scorp and shield-tanked apocs due to no shield boost penalty on cap relays.
Jump-in points: carnage!
NPC chaining when you could get it going really fast.
Biggest NPC was 50k and the cruisers scrambled you.

WOW, that would be a great move !!
Right after RMR is released, let's have a "Gemini" week on Sisi, all the skills we have now but with Gemini ships/mods, code base, etc
I'd vote for an "EVE Gemini Week" on the test server ---------

Many many many many many many more whines on the forums...
More seriously ? The agme has improved massively by filling in the blanks between the original content as well as improving on that original content.
However, I must say that the cost of success if becoming mroe and more evident as far as dilution of the community goes. Noise gets to drown out the music more and more in this one. _______________________________________________

i never played it... joined a month before exodus....
id really like to see it ____________ The cargo bay is overloaded and cannot be made to fit Expanded Cargohold I. It is currently only capable of fitting 8772.12 units and it is currently jammed full with 9558.33 units. |

I would *love* to see the forum whiners get dropped int a eve version 1.0 shard just for a day or two... and see them say it's not improved.
I arrived a little under 2 years ago. I remember how making the first million was such a huge milestone. hitting 10 million, that was a proud moment... and my corp getting thier first battleship, such a big thing. the inflation rate has always surprised me, to look in-game now and see things for twice the price they were.
and, how much smaller it all was. 100 in a system? madness it'd never nappen. in 0.7's and 5 people was busy. 0.4 with more than two was incredible.
ahh. fun times, but don;t ever say it was a better game, compared to now.

Dual MWD ravens, torps with splash, extremely difficult to earn money as a noob, cruisers were a BIG deal, and the introduction of T2.

Hey, I don't sing much, I'm more like one of them old guys in the balcony at the muppet show. I comment and grumble :p
What i mean is that less forum users are aware of what they are talking about these days. It's less about sharing and gathering information nowadays then it is about complaining and trying to get your way.
And of course, having probably spent more time browsing here then actually playing the game, I think of this first of all when asked the topic question _______________________________________________

Edited by: Sosus Red on 13/12/2005 00:34:23 Well I notice many posters on this thread are noobs yourselves.
I started back in may 03, man was it bad. had to walk to school 5 miles in the snow, uphill...both ways.
seriously, making my first million was a huge acheivement. After you jumped, you were not cloaked for any period of time. you had to be in stations to look at the markets. M3G4 were scary. I still remember mt first corp, Novatech. My first ingame friend and corpmate, Rina. She was from Italy. Ill guess the one thing that has changed the most is that none of the people I knew in the first 6 months of the game still play. ;(

Oh, one change I kinda miss, double-click to warp!
It's weird how you think these things will brake your game, but given time you slowly forget they ever existed.

Edited by: Corvus Dove on 13/12/2005 00:52:05 1. No cloaking when you came out of a gate. You were just there. Where pirates had deployed 23894756239 drones and cans and you were actually waking up in a clone by the time you loaded the system background bitmap.
2. No barges. Mining Apocs were the ultimate carebearing machines.
3. The only ships that you ever saw in a belt that didn't talk back to you when you hailed them were NPCs. And even they reacted to your presence.
4. Cruisers felt big.
5. NPCs in 1.0 and 0.9.
6. More moon/planet spawns, no such thing as complexes.
7. Afterburners were the propulsion upgrade we all wanted.
8. No level 4 agents.
9. m0o.
10. m0o camping Mara, cutting off the North and South ends of the map for 2 weeks before the Devs tried to roleplay them out of the region in DeD ships. The Devs were losing and had to use server commands to teleport part of the m0o forces (including the first player BS) across EVE...interestingly, on top of a mining op. That's why we have sentries.
11. The Damsel was still a virgin. ----------------------------------------------- MAKE THE MACROERS SCREAM |

I'm like 99% positive there was no bs there. Anyway pretty much everything has been said (did anyone mention duel ab cruisers?). The game looked different, felt different and played defferent. There was more of a defined line in skill in pvp b/c it was so much harder and so many more things that were needed to do while fighting. It isnt quite as lock and fire automatic by use of scanner as it is now.
Not that I am complaining as it is a really much better game. However I would love to see a gemeni week on SiSi as well as instead of Stealth Bomber just a plain old Bomber frig. Slower then ceptor, faster the frig that fires cruise missles, man that would be a fun ship to have. ---------------
