Aight, got a question for ya-
What is the best way to mine solo using cargo containers? Most places I've seen that aren't swarming with containers... which means I have to anchor mine out in the middle of never never land and fly back and forth to the asteroids.
Also, would it be more efficient to equip a Catalyst for mining or to save up and equip a Cruiser? I have an Iteron for hauling... but what should I use for actual mining?
Keep in mind I'm only 6 days old in game :D

Giant conts are a pain since you cant anchor them too near to roids personally i use the jet-can technique.
Jettison your cargo, open the jetisoned container then transfer your ore from cargo to it each cycle.
fill the cont then go get your hauler.
Basically is much more efficient then pratting around with secure conts, one think to be aware of is ore thieves but after RMR you will be able to shoot anyone who takes stuff from your jetcan.
Yet to test this but im fitting a scrambler as standard on my mining ship from now on. Should stop the ore thieves ruinning away with my ore.

yeah, but if I'm mining with a catalyst, that doesn't leave very much room for weapons :( and when I bring my Iteron out, I only have a SINGLE weapon turret... :(
I also can't use scramblers yet... lsot 2 days cause of server downtime, so I've only got 4 days worth of training done :((

Considering the Catalyst doesn't have a drone bay to put Combat drones in it for protection, you're just out of luck using that for a mining ship. Train up for a cruiser and also train your industrial up so you can get a hauler.
With RMR you will no longer have to worry too much about people stealing your ore like they used to, and if they do you can go strait into combat with them since they stole your stuff. I myself am a heavy strip miner with crystals and just mine to a jettisoned container and when it is full(27minutes) I get my hauler and in two loads I have my ore back at the station.
But back to your question. In High security space you should be ok mining with a ship that has the capacity for 3 heavies. When I say High Sec Space I mean down to .6 unless rmr makes that harder. Then back at your station keep your heavy guns ready just in case a punk steals your ore. Wait.... If it is high sec space won't the Police zap them. Hmmmm.. Will have to see.

Get to the spot where you want to mine. As you hold becomes full jettison the ore, it will appear in space inside a can. This can will hold up to 27,500m3 of ore. Mine into this can for an hour, warp back to the station/can hauling the ore with your iteron.
The ship you chose to mine in will increase the amount of ore you produce. The more turret points = more miners you can fit.

I've got an idea--an idea so smart that my head would explode if I even began to know what I'm talking about

Yeah get a Cruiser capable of fitting some drones (Thorax is good since you are galante you probibly have some skills already) then carry some drones. This should afford some protection from NPC's then too.

Edited by: Sarleena on 15/12/2005 15:20:16 What a lot of people seem to be missing is that the catylyst doesn't have the CPU to fit all its turrets with mining lasers, so it has all the defensive firepower it needs really.
Once you have some money to spend, you can load it with 4 XeCl mining lasers and 4 125mm railguns, and you've got a good amount of defensive firepower while still having more mining take than if you just fit 3 miner 2s to it. It's a pricy setup, and somewhat skill-intensive, you need good electronics and engineering skills, but it's doable.
The Catylyst's 400m3 cargo bay also means you have enough room to fit a full cycle's worth of ore in and still have room for ammo.
It's possible you could get more mining out of a cruiser, since you can fit 4-5 miner 2s, but they don't have the defensive firepower, and have to rely on drones and a good tank for defense instead. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the oth |
