I for one appreciate that you must have put in a mammoth working day (or days) to get RMR up and going. Things may be a bit difficult in the next couple of days as the community adapt to the changes, just like last time, but the effort CCP put into this game to make sure we have as much fun as possible is truly amazing. I thank you.

Shame we can't have something as simple as a graphical difference between BPO's and BPC's though, like a different colour or an icon.
Never mind - I'm sure all the major changes like new constellations will make up for small glitches like that!

i am a HP hardware engineer and it makes me laugh when people who know nothing about the fundamentals of having all these people and all this data and information on one cluster (server - cluster is a few servers kinda joined together to show one).
I have more respect for ccp's techies than i do for HP's lol

I've always respected all the hard work CCP put into this, and always will. They are constantly surpassing the standard, so yes, I agree with the OP.

I read this post just before going to bed and realized I wouldn't get a good nights sleep without saying that I 100% agree that CCP has done a marvelous job.
Thanks CCP!

I fully agree with the original post. Great work CCP!
But can we get over this I'm a developer too so I know what it's like thing? I think about 60% of us playing this game are involved in software development in some way. To me it always comes across a bit like this:
- CCP do a very difficult job and are very special people. - I know this because I do a similar difficult job. - By extension, I am very special too.
CCP do a great job, end of story. Who cares what I do for a living?

During my 1.25 years in eve I'd say that it often seems that the devs are designing the game around it's customers, something that is very rare in the capitalistic world of today.
Imo, the devs deserves all the credit they can get. I currently work as a database designer, and I would not be very surprised if the E-O database is one of the most complex databases in existanse.

I have to add a very very very well done guys!
Not only was I able to DL the patch with no problems but I also logged in first time this morning.
and don't take the complaints from some people to heart, some people will always look for something to compain about.
PS. I like the new font alot! looks great on 16x12 -------- "Next time some f**** shoots someone and flies down the interstate at 90 mph. Instead of following it with a camera crew, they need to send in an Apache to just crater him" - Malthros Zenobi |

I was going through my own (admittedly smaller) version of software release hell yesterday, and I wholeheartedly applaud the devs for doing things properly and well.... although I haven't actually had chance to login yet
CCP, I feel your stress... I really do.

Originally by: David Corbett CCP is not just a rarity among companies these days - it is UNIQUE! I have never seen a company with developers and staff so devoted and open to their clients. Even if not for EVE, I think I'd keep playing just on account of how awesome the devs are.
Couldn't have said it better, they absolutely rock. Nicely worded OP as well.

Dudes keep up the good work. In my opinion your game is the best MMO ever, the first to impress me in technology, graphics and gameplay And as a Phd Computer Science I really have respect for how you manage to keep this massive system going with so many people pounding at it all day.

Yeah. I work professionally in serverside IT, and I'm always amazed at how well EVE has stood up, all things considered. Awesome work, guys & gals.
...and remember to go home & sleep, too. Not for too long, tho, you need to get back to the office asap and fix the broken sensor damps & tracking disrupters.

I had a problem with autopatching. Didn't moan, just looked at the helpfull threads and Dev comments etc and sorted it myself.
Just started Eve up (in work...SHHHHH!) and looks good (even the adjustable font!)
All respect and kudos to CCP.

Huzzahs are in order. Nicely done, guys.
I'm not saying that the patch is perfect. There are things that annoy a lot of people. (How do you feel about change? We fear it). There are things that annoy even me, and I'm the stoic type. What I am saying is 'congratulations, and thanks for all your hard work'. Very few people seem to appreciate the work that goes on 'under the hood', so to speak. So what if you've optimised the indexing of eight million rows? THE FONT IS UGLY! Waah. Oh, and you didn't implement all the little changes that I think are a good idea. Ftl, people.
EVE is exceptional value for money, and I look forward to playing it for years to come.

Edited by: Lucre on 16/12/2005 10:44:25 Well, I'd have preferred it if deployment had been scheduled for 1200 so the 6 hours slip wouldn't have taken it past my bedtime... (And making the patch available at 0015 but not having a server up to try it out on was just mean! ]
But having managed to get online briefly this morning I'd have to say it's looking sweet (well, except the font!!!) and was running more smoothly than most deployments I can remember. Cool.
Applause to everyone involved with the upgrade. Great work people.
Now if you could just fix the font...

Been testing RMR for the last couple hours, and all I can say is: Well done, CCP!
The changes I've been looking forward to from my testing on SiSi (invulnerability fields, cap booster charge size, torp size) were great, but when I logged on and started carebearing to cure a low wallet, I was very pleasantly surprised to see a proliferation of battleships in the local belts and not cruiser-upon-cruiser like it had been since Cold war. Also, the fixed loot tables are awesome!
For me, things are really looking up - I just might be able to put together the money for some new toys, after all.
Again, CCP - you rock! -Wrayeth

We all know that EVE is far more superior to all the stuff u can play outside. I just think that is good to make Devs feel our love for them. For 2 reason:
1) they earn our respect with a coustomer care and attention to suggestion like noone in the MOG world.
2) Till they keep this kind of work-style, they have nothing to be afraid: EVE will always be one of the most "clicked" icons on our desktop!!

It is now the morning after. Most of us were here until 4 o'clock last night. Some are still here. I showed up at 11 this morning after a long awaited shower, and I think I was the last one in. Everyone's reading the boards, looking at load graphs or playing the game, scouting for trouble. It's an awesome vibe, I wish you could all be here. We're not spent by any means, reading a thread like this recharges your batteries in a few minutes flat.
I just asked Hellmar how the load numbers were looking and he commented that it was running so smoothly that the number crunchers were scratching their heads. We need to find a non-minor problem to feel better about this. Such a smooth ride is too unusual. We need a bean in our mattress.
Thanks for the kind words everyone! And even the occasional not-so-kind words - they will be crushed and ignored... I mean, really pondered and fixed!

Great job to all at CCP very professional job done, server updates and upgrades are tricky and always full of issues. Ive been involved in such activities myself... but on the scale which you have done I cannot imagine the difficulty of the task you faced last night.
Excellent work guys, much appreciated.
Plus EVE radio did a fab job of keeping people entertained
