There's a reason all those ratting boats dock up. You'd have to be an idiot to risk your shiny pve fit isk making machine against a pvp ganker setup. It's also usually not worth the effort to reship and waste a couple hours hunting a half decent cloaky. Just because someone doesn't want to waste their time trying to kill you doesn't mean they're care-bears. In null sec, it usually means the odds aren't heavily in their favor. Always remember the most important rule in EVE, fair fights are for losers. |

"The fights I want are the ones that are really far away" -What? Then stop compaining. As I stated earlier this was not a complaint. A complaint is something like "I don't like null because . . .". This thread was a proposition to the forums regarding a reason something doesn't happen. There is a great difference between the two. |

The issue is there is no incentive to travel out there due to lack of ability to fit, repair, reship and rearm. As stated earlier, nullsec is constant bagging high seccers for being too scared to go to null. My suggestion was rather than fear it has more to do with those problems.

Soon as I got there everyone docks up. So I go AFK for a while come back and kill someone who decided to rat in local with a neut in system. I'm not happy with my DPS due to nulli sub so I jump 78 jumps dodging camps back to refit.
Few hours after arriving I spot an Oracle and engage him, being a high seccer with no skills I forgot to turn off my repeat on my XL ASB when I refit and cap out with him at 5% hull. Luckily he burns his guns out and I escape with 40% hull.
He docks up, I jump round trip 78 jumps back for reps.
Operating in 0.0 without joining the sheep is annoying. Its time intensive. It costs twice as much as a normal sub (activated an alt account with RR and cargo of boosters, ammo) to act as ghetto station.
In short 0.0 is shite for non-alliance. I think people might go out if it wasn't so one sidedly balanced in favor of nullbears.
Er nullsec is 15 jumps from Jita and less to other high sec and even less to low sec stations, why are you going 38 jumps (78 round trip)!? |

In additon to stations, there is NOTHING stopping hi-sec players from doing what I and others do: Using a Carrier as a mobil cloak-capable logistics base (hell, my "Invader" carrer has a hull rep on lol). The idea that hi sec players don't go to null because of easily solvable logistical problems isn't just wrong, it's a lie.
I like to tell the story about how I used to work in a jail and watched inmates do all these crazy innovative things like grilled cheese sandwhichs made with clothing irons or coffee re-warmes made from wire and a broken light bulb or how imates would crush up aspirin and such, mix it with tabbaco , smoke it and get high etc etc. Yet the same people can't figure out how to not go to jail in the 1st place and tend to come back over and over and over again.
People who WANT to do something find a way to do it. It's no different than teenage kids who can't pass a math test but can recite the words to a Justin Bieber song backwards in russian( a language they never learned) while hanging upside down on a tree branch.
Hi-sec people don't go to null because most of them can't stand the idea of any loss, can't stand the idea of having to cooperate with other people (this is, consequently why high sec, home to more than 3/4ths of EVE characters, can't find a way to do so much as vote for CSM), and don't like the idea of putting effort into a video game when that same game lets you play nearly effortlessly in the exact same space their characters were "born" in. It is truly as simple as that. |

What in the world makes you think this is some insurmountable goal? I had a carrier within a year of playing. It wasn't a well skilled carrier but it was enough to shuffle stuff around.
Hell most incursion ships cost more than my carrier, and I dare say a fair few L4 mission running ships cost waaaaay more than my carrier. |

I don't think it's insurmountable at all and have done similar myself. But I certainly wouldn't characterise it as an easy thing for the average high sec player. I actually agree with the goon on this one.
The ISK-hoarding escapes me. For a time there was an Eve add that showed mining, killing rats, and overlayed on the screen was a wallet ticking ever higher. Sometimes I wonder if this is what attracted people to the game who think that the higher the ISK, the bigger the win.
Not like anybody should be told how to play, but it does get irritating dealing with players whose first and last thought is about how much ISK/hr any activity is. I wonder if new players come into the game like this or if they pick it up somewhere, and if the latter, how and from where?

It's got to be a mindset. Keeping up with the Joneses or something. I don't care about the ISK/hr of any activity that I do. I care if I'm enjoying myself, and keeping enough in my wallet to keep enjoying myself. Some people may enjoy themselves by building a fat wallet that they never spend on anything. But I think many more are just chasing isk because it's the only activity they've learned. Rifterlings Corporation is now recruiting pilots for faction warfare solo & small gang frigate PvP.
