I'm sure EvE has more players then just this, while I realize it's great for us all to be on the same server (space is after all very lonely), the game right now is unplayable. Even though CCP have got out of sticky situations before, I believe this time they will fail. Name ANY other game that has 20k players on at the sametime on one server. Even World of Warcraft doesnt' have that many on the full servers.
If CCP manages to reduce the lag on this server with 20k player on then good damned job. If not I really hope they shove out a second server.

They have already said, I think in the news somewhere, that there is a problem server side that is causing the lag by using the CPU more than what it should be....or something similar to this. They are also testing 64-bit hardware, which will definatly improve the servers (AMD Althon64 3200+ in my comp, really nice)

Nobody would join the other server, thats for sure. They'd be wasting their time developing it.

Tough luck I guess. I'm not lagged at all. CCP are pushing the boundaries of MMORPG gameplay with their uber cluster single instance game, so feel pleased you are contributing to the sum total of human knowledge. Also, GET OUT OF ******* RENS.
G'night :)

uhm, I think no other server ever had more than 10k players, when that score was hit, and yet, a few weeks ago, 16k players worked flawless (excepting 4-5 systems; making the game laggy for 1k-1,2k players)
CCP is working on reducing these issues, and I trust that they can solve it. It's just that RMR mixed some things up. If some of the systems went from 100% CPU usage to 25% CPU usage because of little optimizations + 64bit hardware... I guess we can take another 10k players soon.

Why? Because this is EVE, a unique game.

1- Get out of hub systems! 2- Why should CCP, now managed to get all the players from failed WoW, listen to the same guys who gave advices that destroyed WoW, and destroy EVE in the process? 3- Could we stop this multi-shard whine please? EVE will never ever turn into multi shard because most people are not WoW dropouts hoping to turn eve into WoW (thus every reply to a post like this was always full of NOs)

I remember hearing people say "You'll never get 10k people on the server together! The lag will be terrible, it'll never cope! Doom, I tell you, Doom!"
It's just a temporary problem, and it's only highly populate servers that are affected. If you're on a node that has few high traffic systems on it everything is lag free. Just need to give CCP soime time to iron the bugs out, then order spunky new hardware and everything will be hunky dorey again.

Yah. This is EVE, they dont do "shards". If you want sharded games, go play wow.
The amounts of "split the servers" threads are getting tiring.
The game was fine all day with these many people on, its not a usercount issue, its a number of bugs. Reading the news and dev blogs is good for you.
Now please, all of you splitters, go away. ------------- Please fix the EW stacking bug :(

I've been reorganising my production lines, did some inter-regional market research, stuff like that.
Yes core empire was a lagged, but Ours for example preformed better with 360 locals now, than with 260 locals before RMR. So it appears some of the optimasations are working.

Wow, man. The reason WoW is failing is becuase there is nothing new for non-raiders (with nothing but raid content coming out for awhile), not becuase there are 100 servers (if this is what you're talking about).

They'll fix it, have a bit of faith in these guys, they more then deserve it. the numbers usually max out at 20k ( or whatever the highscore of the month is ) due to timezones.... you see peaks during european peak times and separate ( or just a greater increase ) during the american peak hours.
If ccp were to announce, "EVERYTHING ON THE MARKET FOR 1 ISK FOR 2 HOURS ONLY COMMENCING 05/01/06 AT 0700GMT" I would imagine the influx of connections to tranquility would result in it's meltdown :)
and please read helmar's devblog is it really so hard?

The part shown in bold is what makes eve so good, change that and its just another retarded game where you can escape elsewhere if things dont go your way.

Whats there to say this game is and will always be in the forefront of gaming as long we the players give feedback with some respect to those who work hard in bringing us this game it will last a very long time.
cheers

I hate to nitpick but the OP needs to understand that it is not just one server. There is not just one computer with a CPU sitting in CCP's closet churning away. In fact they are getting close to being in the Top500 of CPU usage in the world. Which means they are getting close to 300+ some odd servers running this game in what is called a CLUSTER. Clusters can handle vast amount of traffic. Sure the hub systems are going to get hammered, but as people spread out things will settle down.
Once people get into low sec space for mining and or combat things will get better in the hubs. Not to mention when the servers are upgraded to AMD64s as aposed to the 'hyperthreading' P4 things will increase drastically.

If it so laggy for you move to another system. Stay out of rens/jita and you should be fine. To me RMR has reduced the lag a great deal for me atleast anyway. Sure i still hit lag spikes now and again for a minute or so but it soon sorts itself out then i'm fine for ages. Although having said that i don't exprience any lag at all in Rens. Hell must be one of the lucky ones but i see lots of people moaning about the lag in these systems so if you are in one of them and it is laggy head to another system.

Just minor glitches. Wait until Eve Online has got 100k players online 22/7. They can do it, for real.

Tons of people would join it. Any new player to eve, for starters, and anyone who wants to take superior knowledge to a fresh and sderver, where they can mold their selves into a major BPO owning cartell etc. All the peopel who complain on the forumes about the unfairness of the skill training system and how they wil lnever catch up with the vets etc. Trust me, that server would have a few thousend ppl palying it on day one and slowly but steadily become more populous, just as this server had.
That being said, as long as CCP can keep tranquility relativly free of massive lag, I'd rather they just stick with 1 server. RMR just hit and the new 64 bit server stuff is about to be added... let stuff settle down. ---

I'm pretty sure the OP knows its not literally just 1 computer running all of EVE. I'm tired of you "WHAT, YOU CALLED IT THE "SERVER"?? ITS HUNDREDS OF SERVERS!!!!" people. Yes, we all know that MMOs are made of tons of servers, but from the beginning its always been "OK" to refere to the entire computing network which supports an instance of an MMO world as a single "server." ---
