I need an upgrade
AMD XP 2000 1GB Ram Nvidia Geforce FX5700Ultra (latest drivers) 160GB hard-drive Windows XP Home Nortons Virus & Firewall + several spyware removers Not defragged for some months (must do that sometime but when I'm on the PC, I'm on Eve)
Runs Eve fine even up to 1600x1200 - some lag when a lot is happening at that resolution tho. Normally at 1280 x 960 - not measured fps but runs fine with all effects on. As long as I can do what I want without waiting for anything, I'm happy.

GSI system. (ghetto systems inc, home made)
AMD 3500+ 1gb DDR @400 dual channel MSI nforce 3 ultra board MSI 6600GT 128mb (nexus edition) using onboard sound at the moment as my creative Xfi card went **** up and is RMA. 2x sata 80gb (raided storage) 1x sata 40gb (system drive)
I don't have frame rate problems. In open space, I average over 100fps. In complex/deadspace I get around 70fps. In fleet combat (100+ ships) I get over 40fps (and I have a sneaking hunch thats due to the sound card bottlenecking).

General space flight has always been anywhere from 80fps to 50fps (at a gate with NPC police and a few players), but with RmR lately, I've hit sub 30fps at gates and a lvl 4 Serpentis Extra is horrible. I did one with a corp mate and I had 20fps or lower. Never. NEVER has it been that bad. I always had 40fps in a Serp Extra lvl 4 mission. ALWAYS. I want it back too, ASAP. Mind you, this is with the 2xFSAA within Eve pre-RMR and post-RMR.

on my 9700NP and AXP I rarely went below 45fps, even in combat.. probably bottomed out at around 30fps in a big fight
on my 6600GT on the A64 system I had little trouble pulling 60fps in 1280x960 when not in combat, in combat I'm sure it never dropped to below 45fps. The game was simply unplayable on an X300 (faster than an FX5200), this game does not like lowend hardware.
People, make sure you keep LOD enabled. Even on my X1800 (with FSAA) I can't keep above 60fps with dynamic LOD disabled.
and please know the limitations of your hardware. Nothing below an X800Pro/XT or 6800GT can handle this game in a decent res with FSAA and AF while staying at or above 60fps.. On anything less than a 9700/6600, stick to 1024x768. Anything less than an X700 and you need a new videocard
an FX5200 user expecting full detail at above 15fps? that's classic ________

And i do indeed play BF2 on a routine basis(1600*1200,max details with 4x AA enabled and always above 60 FPS..)
Even more these last several days since RMR was released unfortunately,as i lost connection to the server 7 times on monday in the space of 2 hours of play, and 3 times more yesterday within an hour...Not even when the game was first released almost 2 1/2 years ago has it been this unstable...

CPU: Athlon FX-51 RAM: 1 GB Crucial DDR (forget the CAS/RAS at the moment..2.5 I think) GPU: GeForce 6800GT (non overclocked at the moment) running FEAR beta drivers Sound: Audigy ZS Gamer Hard Drives: 40GB 7200RPM/8MB ATA 133 Maxtor (Windows drive) & Segate 7200RPM/8MB 120GB SATA non-RAID (Games and storage)
Resolution 1600x1200 Anti-Aliasing at 2x Trilenar, not running AF
Worst Case FPS (10+ Ships Engugaed, Nebulae, Lense Flares): 45 FPS Best Case Out of Station: 150 FPS Best Case in Station: 180 FPS
I've heard XFire causes massive problems with the new patch, and someone earlier mentioned to disable it. Also, if your FPS goes up, then suddenly back down, check to see if your hard drive is reading. Usually random drops in FPS are caused by caching to the hard drive or another process stealing CPU cycles. Try increasing the priority of the game from normal to above normal, see if that helps (though it could make it worse). Also, make sure your hard drive is running at max ATA mode it can support, as sometimes the mobo drivers will force it to a lower speed if it has errors.
Smoke normally does cause a massive FPS hit in any game, dependent on the sprite density, player proximity, and any special effects rendered in the smoke.
If you're getting the same FPS (thereabouts) despite resolution, that normally flags a bottleneck somewhere along the memory or CPU. Could be a process stealing CPU, an incorrect memory setting, bad memory, etc. Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind suffered from this sort of problem. You could increase your resolution from 1024x768 to 1600x1200 and only loose a few FPS. This was because the game consumed a lot of CPU.
As to the minimum game requirements: sure, you could possibly RUN the game at those minimums, but they're called the minimum for a reason. Some games don't even run well at "Recommended" hardware requirements. However, I do agree that the existing requirements and recommended hardware are a bit out of date with overall modifications and expansions that CCP have put out. Perhaps we can obtain a workable "recommended" requirement with this thread?
Personally, I don't have problems with games, and EVE is by far my most stable and fastest game I still play. DHU InMe, you might want to edit your post to ask not only for computer specs, but also for current game settings, such as resolution. That would help more than just asking for specs, as configuration has a significant impact as well.
Keep in note my above post just reflects my experiences, which may or may not be in the minority. EVE's currently running at 175MB memory on missions in deadspace, but recently I've been in very low-populated systems with missions being the most demanding on my system. Actually, come to think of it, I don't think EVE has ever gone above 200MB of RAM used. *shrug*

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Graphic: Radeon 9600 XT Memory: 1 Gb RAM rest: checks out AOK.
30-50 fps ussually, battles it stays in the low 30's, but the moment I come to close to one of those clouds (and not all clouds, certain clouds only, like that "domed" bright cloud) it drops to 10-15 fps, that is the only issue I have atm. ------------------------------------------ The ammatar are not the enemy, they are the smoke and mirrors of the amarr. |

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 23/12/2005 10:13:41 I'll joint this then.
CPU: P4 3.2 Graphic: GeForceFx 5200 Memory: 512Mb DX : doing fine XXGb Hard Drive (defraged): All fine (I actually dont know how alrge it is, large enough that I dont know nor care how large I guess). WinXP
My system is next to totally clean. That means installed programs are at a minimum, nearly all of the diskspace is empty, and I run a bare minimum of background trash.
I have optimised for perfomrance eve settings, sound disabled (altho with just one account running it has no effect on framerate for me, it's to prevent errors when running multiple accounts). I also play windowed mode obviously (need to alt_tab to forums and ****).
Normal fps: 50-70 FPS in high load environment (mining op asteroid belt, complex with loads of npc's etc): 20-50, 10-30 with effects enabled.
Soo, since i'm running a near to uidentical system to the op, the issue seems to be his, since the onyl times I drop to <20 fps is when I have effects enabled and/or am changing states/loading full grids.
edit: oh, and a year ago i still played on a p2 1ghz with 128mb ram and a 32mb card. It rocked, beat that ! _______________________________________________
