In a perverse twist of fate, the utter failure of Incarna has facilitated what is shaping up to be the best expansion in several years. As a bitter vet I'm actually quite excited by the coming changes, new T2 mods, balancing, etc. Bring on winter!

While 4 new ships is nice, Hybrid balance is great, AF 4th bonus (if it really happens) ... I don't see the "awesome" yet... I'd love to see it, they keep saying it, especially soundwave, but WHAT is it going to be? and if we don't know, how do we know it will be awesome? I hate to nay say, I really do, but I only see "oh neat!" but not WOW!
What would be awesome? Fleet Warfare Redesign, Sov Redesign, Mining Redesign, Mission Redesign (something harder than pac man).
Where are people seeing the awesome, help me with the vision!

The awesome thing is that CCP is working on Eve again. Not on Space Sims Online. We can finally see some changes that many of us have been waiting a long time for. Imo this is probably going to be the best expansion in a long time. |

Even if you don't care for WHAT is being changed (and I love what we've been shown), you have to appreciate the fact that CCP is working on improving the game we're actually playing vs trying to change Eve into one of those games we choose not to play. |

I would be excited too if CCP was not makeing a big push to force eveyone into huge allainces.

I still hope that the multiplayer part of incarna is not completely forgotten and will be completed some day. In the end it will open up more options for the spaceship part of the game.
The last 6 expansions were at best half completed, with the promised features delayed and then dropped. I was hoping Incarna would be different and when it was not, at least the missing and needed features would be completed at a later date. That never happened.
Yes, nice some new spaceships, but PI will suck more then ever before and with possibly bad consequences for the entire EVE economy. |

Agree that Incarna should be completed though.
The new spaceships will keep people a few days, true.
POCOs sound like fail to me. Something the big alliances will play with and no-one else unless he wants to lose some ISK.
So I'll now wait for that pwn vids that will convince me of "awesomeness". |

Well, after you reach the bottom of the hole (that you dug yourself in, btw), the only place you can go is up. And each inch back is a victory. Anyway, even so, I still have the feeling that I'll love this expansion. |

What I'm seeing in this expansion so far, is a lot of sizzle but very little steak.
Yes, CCP is working on space for the first time in 2 years. The stuff being added is cool, but not the important stuff that EVE really needs.
Nullsec is no longer a sandbox. It appears to be a sandbox, but it's not. Every major shift in null politics over the past couple years has been a direct result of dev decisions, not player decisions. You'll know null is properly balanced when there is no status quo, when everything is always in flux, especially when devs don't touch it for 2 years. This expansion will do nothing to change the status quo of null.
Every other playstyle is still a dead end as well. While this expansion has plenty of shiny, it aims to make every dead end even deader (notably, PI, including it's likely effects on w-space.)
In fact, the only playstyle that seems to still offer any kind of freshness is forum warrioring.
I don't expect Winter to fix EVE. Even before the changes announced thus far, I wouldn't have expected it to really fix any dead ends. What I'm interested in is when we'll get a devblog about the summer's plans and it's title features. SUMMER EXPANSION SHOULD ALREADY BE PLANNED BY NOW. |

I hope that with the expansion, many smaller things that can be fixed will now get addressed and we will get some new content.
For the moment I can see this happening, when the devblog of the art and the changes like FW (and other features) will hit we'll see just how far CCP can cast its net in such a short time. Either way, they seem to be on track and have some other more long term plans. I wouldn't say I have regained my faith, but I am hopeful.
I am hopeful enough and I fully support the idea of people building, maintaining and running their own planetary elevators, there are 7000 stars in the EVE universe, each with up to dozens of planets. PI will be possible for concord towers in high sec but not for free (well duh) and low sec, in low sec you have to fight for your right to party.

I'm not worried too much about this expansion. I'm just worried that people will expect awesome expansions all the time. The expansion after 'winter', I'm a little worried it wont be able to match 'winter' or Apocrypha.
Will people will get angry again when the next expansion after 'winter' is released, and it's just average? |
