The OP seems to have confused smack talk for tears. This is a common problem with cowards and incompetents in EVE, especially the ones who make threads on the EVEO forums in order to seek vindication from total strangers and then get tetchy when they don't receive it. |

All these pilots complaining about your withdrawal from the fight.
You figured you'd lose, you withdrew........ nout wrong with that...............
If you posted that you engaged when you thought you would lose and you did lose, then the same people would call you a fool for engaging.
Though, like someone else suggested, why seek confirmation. If you're happy with your actions in a solo engagement, who cares what anyone else thinks...........

You should have let him hit you a few times and then disengaged with a gf, depending on how local looked. All your midslots don't mean anything as he's hitting you no matter what if he's in scram range, but they'd let you leave after he got a few licks in. |

Hi guys,
So lemme begin by telling a story, earlier today i was in my hawk doin a medium plex when a pirate merlin showed up,naturally i figured i can take him,and i did.. next thing i know same pilot returned but this time with a vengeance ( the ship but i agree name fits for the task :). ) so knowing that from preveous engagements hawk vs vengeance from my past experiance,i would lose the fight.. so i figured why lose a ship for nothing... So i ran away. Now , after i ran that said pilot ofc started ranting in local and i stood and smiled and colected few tears before i left system.. but what bothered me is the fact he said i was a coward(he used alot of words to imply that) so my question to u guys is ,was i really a coward?or did i just do a smart move and avoided a loss by thinking?
What would the l33t pvp'er have done?
You are not a coward. You got a kill and then didn't derp. You made the correct decision. Eve isn't about honor, skill, isk or any rubbish like that - it's about not derping as much as the next guy.
I dunno what a leet pvper would do but I can tell you the options I would consider/use if I wanted to take that fight.
1. Sell the Hawk.
2. Buy a Hookbill.
3. Kill Vengeance.
OR
1. Fly with a few friends.
2. Kill Vengeance.
OR
1. Bring ECM alt.
2. Kill Vengeance.
OR
All of the above at the same time.
If you want to get your soul to heaven, trust in me. Now don't judge or question. You are broken now, but faith can heal you. Just do everything I tell you to do. (Opiate - Tool) |

There is no shame in being a coward!
As a little tip on the side: When running away NEVER look back and check if you are still being chased. All you risk are valuable seconds that can end up getting you caught (and if hes still behind you, you should have been running not looking). Run until you are fully out of breath and can't run no more (or similar reasons). All you wasted is a bit of running time. |

Yes you are because you took a fight largely in your favor, and ran away from one where the terms were more or less equal. Then again, sometimes I'll do the same if I see the match-up as one sided or I don't want to risk losing the ship.

You are right if you follow what "The Art of War" says. You are possibly wrong if you follow a knight's rules. Only you know if you did right or wrong. I would never care what others think about my actions in EvE.
By the way, if you go to low sec you know what you will find. So should you when you come to the forum to ask such a thing. Heck, I bet you don't even need to ask, you should know what the answers will generally look like. |

I think Sun Tzu said something about water flowing somewhere, having alts in adjacent systems for precise intel, and having cloaked loki boosted alts ready to go so that you know yourself better than the enemy knows you. |

Depends... did you decline the fight because you were certain you would lose?
or did you decline the fight because you weren't certain you would win?
I'm a big fan of taking risks with my ships. Like trying to solo a vaga or cane in a taranis. These are things I know can be done, but are often difficult or dangerous to pull off. I don't know how your hawk was fit, but a dual asb hawk can often out tank and out dps the dual rep vengeance. At the same time, it really depends on your fits (and if either of you have boosters). It would be an interesting fight IMO, and I probably would have taken it.
Many of EvE's player base won't take a fight unless they are certain they can win. Some call that smart play, some call that cowardly play. I consider it a fowl disease corrupting EvE's small gang PvP atmospheres. |

I think that warping of can be a smart decision. It depends on the mental state you are in, if you are sober, drunk, happy, angry, etc. and it depends alot on your experience. You might fight a ships where everyone will tell you it'll be an easy fight.... only to see your ship go up in flames or the other way round. If you have bad experiences fighting against certain ship types it might mean two things: A) You need to rework your strategy of engaging them B) You need to rework your fitting Now depending on the way you fit your hawk and the way the vengeance is fitted the result can differ a lot. If the pilot knew exactly what you were flying and how - warping off was the smart choice in my book :) There is a difference between taking a fight you might lose and taking a fight where the odds are clearly stacked against you. No need to hand out "free" killmails :) |

People engage for a bunch of different reasons, including but not limited to "good fights", probing to gauge the enemy's reaction, baiting, or other tactical or strategic reasons. Sometimes the objective of the encounter is actually accomplished before the first weapons are triggered. And in many such cases, it's more sensible to withdraw from the fight than to lose resources you might be able to save for another engagement.
It's like the old philosopher said: One must know when to hold them; One must know when to fold them; One must know when to walk away; One must know when to run. "Nevertheless a prince ought to inspire fear in such a way that, if he does not win love, he avoids hatred..." - Niccolo Machiavelli-á |

Really glad that you have high regards for e-honor Fateamendabletochange, and so easily call someone else "f@ggot" and "your mom is a ***** (paraphrasing)". Really honorable.
If someone chooses not to fight you, especially when his goal is plexing, and the fact that you already fought him before, having an unfair intel advantage, doesn't mean you were the better pvper.
If I kill someone then I see him again in another ship, unless it is something I recognize immediately, my first instinct will always be to disengage, it is just logical. He has the advantage of knowing exactly what to bring to beat me (otherwise he is an idiot), and he will be a better mental and strategic position, as he already thought this fight through and knows exactly what he needs to be doing.
Now don't get me wrong in EVE if someone chooses to not fight you have a right to call them out and maybe have a little fun with them, but that certainly doesn't make them a "f@ggot". It is important how you also make fun of him, because there is a very fine line between old fashioned sarcasm, and giving a bucket full of tears (which you did).
And I love it when frigate fliers think they are risk takers, don't get me wrong it is fun and requires a lot of skills, but you aren't risking much, so take it down a notch with the risk taking. Flying atrons and merlins is not risk taking, hunting in machariels on the other hand..... |
