I wouldn't get too mad at the people who disbelieve that ships have no crew, CCP hasn't done much to promote the whole crew thing since retail. But the rest of us know better, and when CCP does implement crew stats (which I hope they eventualy do), we will (hopefully) be vinidicated.
But personaly I think CCP thinks this is a cute debate, which is why they have yet to step in and correct it...
For EVE fans it's up there with what a lightsaber really is for the uber star wars dorks... unlike that fiasco, you CAN tell a true EVE follower, from the wanna be's based just onthier answer of the crew issue...
If they say:
There is a crew: They are old skool EVE players, and know the truth. There is no crew: They are newbs comparatively... period. They can come up withall the explainations they want, but the prime fiction while semantically debateable if you want to be anal enough about it, is also in abundance to the contrary...
There ARE pods, and there is a Crew.
Frigates being the exception... Back to the story about the gallente caldari war, with the snippet about caldari pod ships being so manueverable due to lacking a crew beyond a pod captain, better reading comprehension would make it clear that the ships in question being flown by the caldari where FRIGATES, not battleships, and not even cruisers.
This is actually important, because it is partly what led to gallente reliance on drone technology, as they lacked pod tech, and manned fighters and frigates couldn't keep up... But drones... They could.
When it came to cruisers and BS's though the use of a pod captain REDUCED the need of a crew, but never eliminated it, IE instead of needing even LARGER crews than shown in the schematics, a skeleton crew of only a few hundred or thousand was enough to keep the ship running.
The last bit about windows on ships being throwbacks to the prior designs that nobody has bothered to improve upon is illogical at best, and daffy at worst.
Pod tech has been around for some time now... Do you honestly think that they would still design and build ships designed with crew space in mind?
Talk about inefficient... IF that was the case a cruiser complete with all systems and subsystems would probably be something you could squeeze down to 1/3-2/3 it's former size... And without windows... You mean to tell me in all these years nobody has bothered to improve upon the design?
Not to mention the fact that a SINGLE WINDOW, Let alone an entire deck full of the things lit up in the dark, on a space combat ship is simply rediculous, even WITH crew present, to have them still be there without crew blows the doors off of rediculous, and puts it squarely into the realm of redonkulous...
Believe it or not, it's no skin off my nose... It's not like nobody tried to show you the truth.
As a final note, if CCP ever does take a stance on the issue, and if it DOES ever end up that CCP says pod ships have not had ANY crew since release of EVE, I will simply respond: "Hey if GW Bush can make stuff up and change the facts after the fact, why can't CCP?"
