Edited by: ManOfHonor on 02/01/2006 07:17:21 Basically its any way you want..
I have heard someone call my Muninn a 'Mewnin' (WTF?!)..
And some guys I know say 'yump' instead of 'jump' (not sure if they do it on purpose or not...)
one person even told me I was a 'complete bastit' instead of 'lord of the universe' (a most perplexing pronunciation...)
I have never heard anyone spell out H-A-C, but I am others would know whaat you are talking about.. (I have heard them called assault cruisers, heavy assault cruisers, HACs(Hacks), and heavy assault ships)... One fellow even typed it out 'h4x'

A couple months ago alot of people insisted that it was HAS, not HAC.... But they got steamrolled by the vast majority of people whom appreciated how much easier it was to say Hack instead of H-A-S, or risk the confusion of HAS with has... I also believe devs may have called them HACs, and that influenced many players...

What about Iteron? Do you pronounce it it-ER-on or EYE-ter-on?

Well I was trying to type that out with a completely phonetic spelling. Typing that way isn't phonetically clear, for example "le" could be pronounced "lee", "lay", "leh", etc etc. Also the uppercase/lowercase shows emphasis. ----------------------------------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

On THAT point, I agree with you. Convenient, maybe so, but stupid sounding, yes.
So much cooler to say H-A-C. I can imagine an evil overlord saying "SEND IN THE H-A-C!" but "SEND IN TEH HACK" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
true, but "omg i'm getting blobbed by H-A-Cs!" doesn't work as well as "omg i'm getting blobbed by hacks!"

It obviously IS pronounced 'Myoo-ninn', as this would imply that its partner, the Huginn (as in both of the Norse God Odin's Ravens), is 'Hyoo-ghinn'. Together, they sound very mythical and cool. If you try to call it 'Mhunn-inn', this gives you 'Hugg-inn', or, basically, Mining and Hugging. Clearly, a carebear pronunciation. ---:::---

Coming from a long history of wargames, I always find This list somewhat useful. Battleship = BB, but in this game, BB = Blackbird and battleship = BS Cruiser = CA or CL, depending. Maybe call normal cruisers CL and HACs CA. Destroyer = DD Frigate = FF
Etc. Of course, as seen in the list, there are a myriad variants of each (it was so much easier in the good ole days), but that just makes life easier: Choose the designation that most resembles your current setup, and presto, friends won't have to ask what setup you have, they'll just look at your ship's name and go "ahh, a DDG, so you're in a missile-heavy configuration." :)
And as to people wondering how to pronounce something phonetically: Grab the nearest dictionary, and check out the first entry for each letter: There's usually an explanation how to phonetically pronounce said letter. At least all the English dictionaries I've run into have had it.

Sounds like Swedes to me. We don't have the same "J" sound as in English. While the english J is said with the toungue fixed upon the roof of the mouth initially and then slid down while breathing out, the Swedish J (and other scandinavian countries) is simply just the breathing part without the stiff toungue against the roof.

Could be any germanic language bar English. Undoubtedly has something to do with English being the only Germanic language heavily influenced by French.

Well, if you REALLY have to twist it in writing...i'd say ku-o could be used, without the - ofcourse since - would suggest there's a pause of sorts there.

Edited by: Rimhawk on 02/01/2006 13:03:26 Well I've always found EVE a bit odd in terms of abbreviations... Prior to playing EVE I had different associations for the abbreviations HAC, BS and POS...
I remember getting quite angry during my first days online as a n00b when I made a comment and someone from the startercorp I was in said 'hey that's a BS!'... I thought he was referring to my comments and got a bit ****ed... He was actually referring to the first BS either of us had ever seen which was undocking from the station....
