Edited by: Gutor on 02/01/2006 07:44:04 So, I started playing eve recently and decided to start offering eve specific services with my hosting packages. One of them being teamspeak servers. Of course, i'm not here just to take from the community. I want to give.
So, with that said, I present to you the Eve Universal Teamspeak Server. The EUTS is completely public, there is no password, and I've set it up to support 84 clients. I'll raise this if needed later. The best thing about the EUTS, is i've created channels for each region in EVE. My thinking is, this can supplment local chats, and could be an easy way for people to jump into these regional channels to ask information pertaining to that region, or just meet up and talk.
Of course, since this is a completely public server, using this for fleet ops or other tactical operations is not advised.
If your corporation is looking for it's own teamspeak server, message me in game and I'll get you set up.
Here's how to connect: Server IP: evetools.com Nickname: anything you choose, although it's a good idea to stick with the following naming convention:
CORP - Character name for me, that would be: FFEW - Gutor
This server is totally public, there is no password and there is no need to register with the server.
Enjoy! Let me know if you run into any problems.

Heya,
no worries, I'm new to the game so i'm not surprised if something like this has been done before. I figure though, right now i'm paying $14 a month for a 100 client license to team speak, and have a server at a high speed facility just waiting for action, so I figured what the hell :)

Thanks, Esturary made it. she rocks :)
And yeah, I realize this server isn't for everyone. The need I want it to fill is when you're sitting out there thinking to yourself "gee, i wish i knew of a teamspeak server I could connect to..." and bam, there you are. Of course, if you search hard enough, you'll find there's plenty of semi-public TS servers out there, like battleclinic, or various alliance servers.
Also, I want to allow private group chat areas, for ad-hoc, multi alliance/corp fleets. As soon as I can figure out how to tie into the TS Server API, I'll have a few private rooms that people can rent out for free. My thinking is, you can go to evetools.com, and request a room. The server will check to see if there is a free room with no users in it. If there is, it will change the password of that room and give you that password. That password will hold on that room as long as there are users in it. more on that later. thanks for checking out the thread though.

I like this idea very much, but my suspicion is that either it won't catch on, and 2 people will use it, or it will, and 2000 people will use it. ----------------------------------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

heh, yeah there's no telling what may happen. Either way, it's $14 a month for a teamspeak server license that is going to good use. 2000 people however would be $240/mo in licenses, so... let's hope it doesn't scale to that very quickly :D
But i guess the best way to look at it is, it's a tool for you or anyone else to use. no one - at least not now - should go onto this server expecting a load of people... but should keep this server in mind when they need to organize an adhoc fleet op, or just want to chat with their buddies over a TS server.
I also want to point out that at least right now, anonymous users can create their own channels and invite users to them, set passwords, etc.. they just won't be able to register those channels, so when they leave, it's gone. I'll keep it this way until it gets abused :)

bleah, you guys are so negative lol :)
yeah, and this being the only post about the server, i'm not surprised no one has signed on yet. haven't gotten Instant Eve Universe Advertising trained to level 5 yet, and would you believe i've been hounding concord for adspace (they've said it's free for rent for years) and wouldn't rent it to me? geez. this is harder than it looks.
But er, yeah, I agree, I don't think the regional channel thing will catch on right away. It may never, but I figured i'll give it a try. could be cool if it ever does catch on.
I was happy though eariler today what was a couple friends chatting on the server turned into a 32 person fleet op. gives me hope lol :)

Edited by: Nee''kita Frist on 03/01/2006 10:42:31 FYI. If your hosting this. You shouldn't be charged by Teamspeak for licences as this is a free server and you are not profiting from it.
That is unless Teamspeak felt they weren't making enough money and changed rules since I last checked :/

I host several TS's for alliances/corps and I never seen any notice about paying for licenses. You must be talking about paid hosting (eg http://sales.tritoncia.com/pricing.php) that is authorized resellers, costs jack if you host it yourself, just download the server software and you're done.

I decided to go the ATHP route and pay a fee because I don't want to deal with crap from teamspeak, and because I do want to sell teamspeak servers to corporations / alliances / WoW players / BF2 Players, etc... but for now, this server will be good as a test server for both potential new customers and myself (to work out any kinks before offering this service professionally).

:( are you sure? I logged in last night as i was sleeping and didn't have autoconnect, when i woke up I was still logged in. You should be able to connect just fine, just use evetools.com for the ip, no password, anonymous.
And thanks for checking it out guys. :D

I've been on and off the server all day today and i see random people checking it out. Some even sitting in regional channels... sadly, with no one to talk to lol. I'm going to anchor some small containers in empire at stargates in certain regions to advertise this service a little better. If anyone has some good ideas of where to put them that would be great.. i'm thinking 1.0 space, where the noobs play, since noobs would benefit the most from such a free server. (since they may not have made many connections in game yet, and don't know of any other free server).
