Yesterday morning before work, I purchased my first month of EVE. I was excited to continue training skills and making money after a fun 2 week trial. My friend who previously played EVE attempted to reactivated his character to find it gone. He said he read in the website that accounts are deleted after 6 months of inactivity. I told him he was wrong and there is no way his account is gone. Then today I decided to check it out while traveling to pick up a newly purchased skill. To my dismay regardless of time spent and monthly fees payed, he was correct. I cannot with an open heart play what I see to be an excellent game, knowing that despite the fact that I could spend years devoloping my character, if I decide to cancel I can never reactivate past a measly 6 months. I have played many MMOGs and never heard of an account going bad. This is what I'd expect from a free service. Luckly, my other friends that I convinced to download the trial to check it out never got monitarily involved. If the $20 I spent was worth the trouble to get it back for the 29 days I'm not going to play this month, I'd try to get it refunded.
Good luck, have fun, and may your accounts never become inactive.

Can I have your stuff?
Seriously, of all the reasons I've ever heard for leaving EvE, this has got to be THE stupidist one.

So you are quitting a game that you find enjoyable and exciting because you do not like the consequences of quitting long-term?
If you do end up quitting for something as childish as account-length deletions, remember to come back before six months is up. --------------

So you're quitting your account because someone you know quit playing for 6 months, only to return and find his character gone? That's why you're quitting?
That's just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Good riddance.

Duh... my accounts have never been deleted even after 11 months of iddleness. Even the trail account who ran out 10 months before I made it into a regular account.

Edited by: Tomkins on 03/01/2006 23:53:17 So your saying if you were, lets say, in the military, and you got deployed overseas for 9 months, that you are willing to pay $15x9 to keep your character alive? $135. Not to play. Not to advance your character. Just to keep it from being deleted while you live part of your life. NO. Your also not going to start a new character.
Ok, answer me this: If you account was deleted today, would you restart?

I'll go with option C:
Your friend is not that much your friend that he wants you to play with him :).

I'm just gonna wait and then laugh for the dev post that will say. "We've haven't deleted any accounts yet."
My main's account was idle for a year and never got deleted.
I suggest you get your friend to do a little more investigation by sending a message direct to the GMs using the the support centre on the left there with the exact account details and character name and they can check and email you (normaly within the next day) as to weather that character has been deleted or not.

To date, as far as we know, no account has ever been deleted. -ever-.
The single reason that '6 months' is listed is so that CCP has a 'way out' in reguards to super old accounts. I don't think anybody will be able to name a MMO that dosen't have a similar policy somewhere.

I did that and my account is still where it used to be. Don't you think there might be some other errors? Perhaps it is the database fault, so petition with all the information you have available, or perhaps the fault lies with your "friend"?

I'm not aware of CCP ever deleting any characters/accounts (unless maybe they are guilty of something).
All the characters (15) in my first corp that I haven't seen since august 2003 still exist!
Although, forgetting ones account details and having an account deleted have different causes but a similar effect

CCP has said many times that there has never been an account deleted ever. I doubt this has actually happened. Most possibly your friends is either lying to you, or for maybe even forgot his account name.

Answer 127 in the support section. Question For how long are accounts stored on the server after they have been cancelled?
Answer If you decide to cancel your account, then your characters and all their equipment and skills are preserved on our server for six months from the day that your account's subscription period ends.
By all means I hope it is false.
And for all you flamers, you haven't answered: would you recreate?

Like many of the others that have replied I have never before this heard of a character or ac**** being deleated. On the contrary I have even heard of CCP managing to rescue characters that were returned into biomass (a sad story involving an account theft).
It would be very reasuring if a dev came on and explained what is what.
Who knows one may sooner or later have to take an extended sabatical. ------------

Well thank you everyone for clearing this up. I'm definately going to see if this 6 month thing is bogus and hopefully continue playing.

I'm pretty sure that no accounts have been deleated by CCP ever. That support answer is just there incase they need to delete them in the future for some reason.
Try contacting the GM's. I'm sure they will help your friend out. |

ThatÆs only as long [they] will publically guarantee that the account will remain available, however no mmorpg would ever delete inactive accounts. Simply because a past subscriber is better than a potential customer as theyÆre aware of your product, they know people whom play it, they have already invested time in it, with the high level of player churn, even though they have left there is a good chance they will reactive to see how things have changed some time in the future.
To delete an account would be to throw that potential revenue away. At worst the account is sitting on some backup storage somewhere. [Ask] your friend to contact CCP and see if its possible to get the account/character back.
